Chapter 1 Mistaken

Bea

Life? Was it tangible? Was it important? What exactly does life mean?

These were thoughts that never crossed my mind. I didn't know. I was just extremely angry and wanted to be alone.

"It's not my fault he's an idiot, yet he takes out his anger on me," I mumbled, cursing him loudly. He should be thankful he has so many people siding with him. If I see him again, he'd better not come near me.

"Hey! Don't you have anything better to do than standing up there?"

A man's shout pulled me down from the railings. I frowned as I looked at him. Who was this guy? Another one? Why was he pulling me down?

"And don't you know how to read? Can't you see the sign that says 'No Trespassing'?"

I turned to look at the sign posted on the side. I scrutinized him as he scratched his head in anger. Maybe I was just overthinking and didn't notice the sign. But why was he angry?

Nothing to do with my life? I remained silent even though I wanted to speak. There was nothing I wanted to say. Why did he care about me? He just appeared out of nowhere, pulling me down, and I didn't even know him.

"Are you deaf?" My frown deepened at his sudden question.

"Now, we're both trespassers. You should be thankful. If I hadn't seen you trying to jump, you'd be dead."

Was it my fault he climbed up here too? And what about jumping?

Jump? I wanted to speak to clarify what he was saying, but my mouth refused to open. Besides, everything was frustrating me right now. It was better not to talk.

"Come," he said, extending his hand to me. I looked at him, confused.

"Let's leave this place. We don't want anyone to see us here," he said.

He gently grabbed my hand and we ran away from the ongoing building project.

Once we were a safe distance away, he sighed in relief. I raised an eyebrow.

"So, I guess I'll leave you here. Do you know your way back home?" he asked.

I remained silent, looking at him flatly.

"Aish," he ruffled his hair. What was his problem?

"Right, I'm just thinking why you ended up there. Your life must be rough."

He looked at me gently, as if he could understand what I had been through. "Rough," I said in a low tone, glad he didn't hear me over the loud street noises.

Yes, it was rough. When someone takes their anger out on you and no one sides with you, it really makes you angry.

"Listen... keep on living. Ah-ahm, here."

I looked at him as he put his bracelet on my wrist. After he finished, I glanced at him, confused. What was this bracelet for? A souvenir? Another fool.

"Maybe you're wondering what that bracelet is for. Listen, if the day comes when you finally understand the value of your life, find me and give that bracelet back to me. For now, keep it as your reason to continue living," he said sincerely and gently.

I didn't know why he said that. This was the first time someone mistakenly thought I was going to jump.

"I have to go. We'll see each other next time," he said, running away and waving at me.

I was about to ask his name, but he was already out of sight. "What if there is no next time? And who is he anyway?" I mumbled.

I sighed in frustration. "Great, someone just mistakenly thought I was going to jump off that building."

I sighed again. I had no choice but to go home... I guess.

I glanced at the bracelet he gave me and sighed once more.

"Find me." He didn't even tell me his name. What an idiot.

But it's good he mentioned the sign. If he hadn't shown up, the owner might have sued me for trespassing.

It's not like I intentionally didn't notice it. When you're that angry, would you notice anything?

And now I was going home still angry. It must be nice to be a bird, just flying around without any problems.

And what reason could this bracelet give me to keep living? Would we even meet again? He just gave something to someone he didn't even know.

When I got home, I quietly went into my room. I was still angry at them. It's better not to talk; who knows what I might say and cause more trouble.

I rested my body on the bed and shut my eyes. Maybe if I slept, I would be calm when I woke up.
