The Challenge

Born cast a cold glance at the gym teacher.

"Useless people don't get to talk."

The gym teacher was instantly enraged, pointing at Born's face. "And what are you? A worthless man protected by women."

Born crossed his arms, with Mia and the others standing in a row behind him.

In unison, they said, "We choose to protect Born. Got a problem with that?"

The gym teacher was fuming.

Why did Born have so many women around him, and each one so attractive?

He had the physique and wasn't bad-looking; why didn't he receive such attention from women?

"If you're so tough, let's have a duel!"

Born chuckled, raising his hand as electric currents began to crackle.

The gym teacher froze, trembling uncontrollably.

Born walked up to the gym teacher, patting his shoulder.

The gym teacher jumped back, startled like a scared rabbit.

"A duel? You're not worth my effort."

Born walked past the gym teacher without a second glance.

A coward, more afraid than a dog, wasn't worth his time.

Mallory, on her end, issued orders.

Everyone gathered their belongings and headed to the rooftop.

An iron door led to the rooftop, which was locked.

Fortunately, the headteacher had the key, avoiding the need to break it down.

Once on the rooftop, Born gathered his maid legion, leaving the school nurse and Lane aside.

Those two had no combat ability for now.

Then, he and Mallory stepped aside.

Officially, they were discussing tactics.

In reality, Born laid out the plan, and Mallory refined it.

Mallory's squad had 8 members left, with 18 submachine guns and 34 magazines.

Pearl's team had 45 arrows for their automatic crossbows, but they could replenish them after killing zombies, though it wasn't easy to manage in front of so many people.

As for Mia and the others, they remained in melee combat roles.

Everyone was divided into three groups.

The entire school building had two stairwells, but the other stairwell was a safety route, with only the stairwell they had been using being open.

The safety route did not need guarding.

Starting from the second floor, scattered zombies began breaking through the desk barricades.

Mallory's squad and Mia's melee team dealt with the zombies.

An hour later, the second-floor defenses were breached, and many zombies appeared.

Pearl's team, armed with automatic crossbows, supported Mia's group, allowing them to retreat to the third floor.

Meanwhile, phones were placed on the second floor, set to ring alarms every half hour.

On the third floor, everyone pushed down desks to block the zombies.

The team fought in close combat.

Two hours later, the third-floor defenses were also breached.

Again, phones were placed, and they retreated to the fourth floor.

They pushed down many desks and chairs to block the zombies and then returned to the rooftop.

Born looked at the night sky, relieved that it wasn't going to rain in Dover City tonight.

After dinner, the children were coaxed to sleep.

Lane sat down against the rooftop wall, patting her lap.

"What are you waiting for? You all have to fight tomorrow. Rest well. I'll be your pillow."

Born chuckled and went over, lying down on Lane's lap.

Lane, who seemed used to soothing children to sleep, gently patted Born's back and softly hummed a lullaby.

It worked well; within minutes, Born was sound asleep.

Meanwhile, in a corner.

The gym teacher gritted his teeth, eyes red with jealousy.

Lane was the goddess of all the male teachers in the school.

Why would she rather be a pillow for another man than even glance at him?

"Slut, they're all sluts."

"You all deserve to die, deserve to die!"

Most of the maid legion moved over, leaning against Lane.

A dozen maids slept around Born.

The gym teacher grew even more furious.

He noticed a soldier on duty and smirked.

"Sluts, just wait for your end!"

He walked over with a fawning smile. "I know you have to fight tomorrow. I'm not much use, so why don't I take your shift while you get some sleep?"

The soldier frowned, eyeing the gym teacher. "You sure you can handle it?"

The gym teacher scratched his head, smiling. "I'm naturally timid, but I'm very alert. If there's any noise, I'll wake you all immediately."

The soldier, skeptical, looked at the gym teacher's sycophantic demeanor with disdain.

Thinking of the tough battle ahead, especially since they had retreated to the fourth floor, he relented.

"Be vigilant. Do this well, and I'll ensure you get to a safe place."

With that, the soldier moved a short distance away, resting against a wall with his gun.

The gym teacher stood at the rooftop door, motionless.

After a while, the soldier relaxed and fell asleep.

In the deep of night, everyone's breathing was even, lost in slumber.

The gym teacher slowly raised his head, eyes filled with malice.

"Safe place? This world is over. If I become a zombie, I'll be with them and won't have to fear them anymore."

Silently, the gym teacher opened the door and left the rooftop.

A few people stirred, hearing the noise, but dismissed it and went back to sleep.

Time passed slowly.

Born turned over, slowly opening his eyes.

Despite the comfortable surroundings, his neck was sore from sleeping on Lane's lap.

Looking around at the maids and the thigh pillow, he sighed at the life he was living...

Born glanced at the rooftop door.

In an instant, he was fully awake.

"Damn it, everyone on alert!"

Several zombies had pushed open the door, staggering in!

Born jumped up, electricity surging in his hands.

Lightning Chain!

He quickly ran over to close the door.

Unexpectedly, hordes of zombies, hearing the noise, went berserk and surged through the rooftop door.

Gunfire erupted!

Mallory's squad immediately sprang into action.

Pearl's team was a bit slower but soon rushed forward with their guns.

Born's face darkened.

It was still night, and the zombies were incredibly active.

He had come back the previous evening because it was getting late and dark.

Who had opened the rooftop door!?

Additionally, the phone alarms were meant to attract the zombies to the stairwells.

As long as Born and his group retreated and the desks blocked the zombies for a while, the sound would keep the zombies distracted, reducing their urge to climb up.

Gunfire and children's cries mingled.

Born, frustrated, scanned the area and suddenly noticed the gym teacher was missing.

He had a suspicion, and his eyes turned cold.

His decision had been wrong again!

In the apocalypse, the most terrifying thing is human nature. What was he thinking, letting someone hostile towards him go?

Next time, it would be better to eliminate such people in advance!
