You Tricked Me!

Angelica glanced at Born and snorted, "Why aren't you with your maid sisters? Why are you bothering me?"

Born looked at Angelica's maid outfit and chuckled, "Can I take that as jealousy?"

Angelica's anger flared. She knew she was wearing a maid outfit, but she had no choice!

"Let's play a game. If I win, you tell me one of your secrets. If I lose, I'll tell you one of mine. If you don't want to reveal a secret, you drink. How about it?" Born suggested with a smile.

Angelica turned her head away, but she did feel a sense of loneliness. She had always felt out of place since childhood. Her sister once said, "Don't mind it. We are too smart, and our understanding of the world is different from ordinary people, so we will feel lonely."

This sense of loneliness had grown stronger since leaving the Starry Night Lab and the outbreak of the apocalypse.

She saw zombies as merely mutated bodies infected by a virus. Ordinary people saw them as bloodthirsty monsters that must be killed. But if they were just mutated bodies, perhaps they could be cured, right?

"Fine, I'll play your game," Angelica agreed.

Born turned his head and smiled. Geniuses are still easy to trick, he thought. Despite the system's hints, he had never seen Angelica show her genius side.

They started playing rock-paper-scissors.

Born lost the first three rounds, but gradually, he gained the upper hand.

Angelica lost ten times in a row, stomping her feet in frustration. "You tricked me! You must be cheating!"

"It's actually quite simple. Your pattern is easy to read: scissors, scissors, rock, rock, paper, then repeat."

Angelica was stunned. She hadn't expected Born to have such observational skills.

She thought for a moment and said, "Come on, I don't believe you'll keep winning."

But in the next round, she lost again.

"Why? I deliberately avoided your pattern."

"What are you thinking? You had no pattern at all. I made it up, and you believed it. Last time you played scissors, so this time you avoided scissors. I played paper, and the worst outcome was a tie."

As Born explained, Angelica stood there in shock.

After a long pause, Angelica sighed, "In this aspect, I indeed lost completely."

"Alright, now I have two questions," Born said with a slight smile.

"First question, you were bitten by a zombie, right?"

At these words, Angelica's expression changed. She stammered, trying to find an excuse, but when she looked up, she met Born's piercing gaze.

It was as if he could see through all her little actions.

Angelica paused and then nodded.

"Why haven't you mutated? Is it because you have antibodies in your body?" Born asked again.

Angelica's breath caught.

Born suddenly stood up, his eyes turning cold. "So it's true. The Starry Night Lab, Aileen, they're the culprits responsible for the suffering of all humanity—billions of people!"

"And you developed antibodies in advance. What is this, a plan to eliminate human threats?"

Born's words completely provoked Angelica.

She jumped up and threw a glass of wine in Born's face.

Her eyes were red as she stared at Born, then she shook her head furiously.

"It's not true. None of it is true. You don't understand anything. You just believe whatever outsiders say."

"My sister was right; loneliness is because we are too smart. I should never have tried to fit into any group!"

With that, Angelica smashed the wine glass and turned to leave.

Born stood there, head lowered, silent.

The maid corps quickly came over to help Born wipe the wine off his face and clothes.

This was just a minor incident.

"Everyone, don't worry. Carry on!" Born said with a smile.

Then he gestured to Lane and turned to walk to the edge of the rooftop.

In his mind, Mia, Lane, Laura, and Pearl joined the conversation.

"Master, provoking Angelica so openly might push her away. She's a valuable asset to us," Pearl said with a hint of frustration.

"I did it on purpose," Born squinted at the sky.

"If she's hiding something, my provocation will certainly make her explode."

This matter was far from simple.

Mallory had mentioned that those in charge saw the video, showing experiments being conducted at the Starry Night Lab, leading them to blame the apocalypse on the lab.

But this time, Angelica claimed things were not as they seemed.

Angelica never asked Born anything and didn't participate in his discussions. Yet, the information she held was far beyond what Born could imagine.

The maid corps never questioned why their combat uniforms increased their physical abilities or why their ammunition and crossbow bolts were endlessly supplied. This was because the system's absolute loyalty ensured their complete trust in Born.

However, Angelica, observing everything, managed to suppress her curiosity, which was her most unique trait.

Born realized this suddenly that afternoon.

After receiving the walkie-talkie message, an overwhelming curiosity nearly consumed him, urging him to explore further!

He couldn't resist it, and most people wouldn't be able to either!

But Angelica could. The genius traits defined by the system were no empty title.

"Mia, you and Laura have the strongest combat abilities. Even if you're away from the team, you have one task: keep an eye on Angelica!"

Born said in a serious tone.

That night, most people got drunk. They indulged in eating meat, drinking, and reveling amidst the howls of zombies.

After the apocalypse broke out, a sense of oppression filled everyone's hearts. Bloodthirsty and cruel zombies, severed limbs scattered everywhere—within just a month, the city looked as if it had been decaying for decades.

Tonight, all that tension was released.

At dawn, a small figure with a backpack tied a rope around herself and jumped out of a sixth-floor window, gradually descending to the ground.

As the sun began to rise, it cast its light on her face.

She was Angelica.

Angelica turned back and took a deep, long look at the hotel.

"Pearl, Sibley, Lane, you all took good care of me, but unfortunately, I don't belong with you."

"My sister was right; the way I see the world is different from yours."

Angelica took out a button-like object from her pocket and pressed it lightly, causing it to emit a white light.

"Sister, I've decided. I want to come back."

A cool voice suddenly emanated from the button.

"I knew you would return. Wait in place; someone will come to get you in 30 minutes."

Angelica nodded and put away the button.

She quietly hid near a wrecked car. Soon, half an hour passed, and in the distance, a team quickly approached.
