Chapter 14: The Book of Knowledge
"There's a garden here? They can't just get enough green huh." I said as I looked around the rooftop garden.
"It's nice here. You can see the forest on the other side and the town on the other." Megan said as she walked beside me.
I did what Ms. Alderei suggested. To walk around and familiarize myself with the building. The building is huge. It reached twelve floors which are tall compared to the rest of the five-story buildings around. The rooftop is amazing. Half of it is a garden and there is a helipad too! Though I don't see any helicopters parked. It would have been amazing if there was one! It will be my first time seeing one so close!
"Stop doing what you're doing! Just stay there!"
I felt tingling from my fingertips and it rapidly climbed its way to my heart. Suddenly my heart was beating fast and I can feel a strange heat engulfing it. My head and my heart suddenly pounded crazily as I slowly feel a furry rise inside me.
Sweat starts to come out of my forehead and I looked at the man who was shouting. Sir Killian was shouting at his phone as he stand in front of the helipad. His ears are bright red as he has his fist on a tight clench.
I tried to calm myself. Am I palpitating because of the coffee that I had earlier? I hope not. I still want to drink lots of coffee. Am I having a heart attack? Doubt it. I feel like I can knock out a lion right now. Am I getting mad all of a sudden? Probably.
What is this weird emotional rollercoaster that I've been feeling since yesterday? I'm sure I don't have bipolar disorder too, though I doubt my head is of a normal citizen. I tried to calm myself and drank the cold water from my bottle. I stared at Sir Killian who was still mad at whoever it is on the other side of the phone.
As if he knew that I was staring he turned his glare at me.
I flinched and looked away from Sir Killian's piercing gaze. I was not a fan of glares but I somehow kept on receiving them in the new work--though I've always received them in my previous work too.
"Why is he mad?" Megan asked, clearly intrigued by Sir. Killian's outburst.
"You don't want to know." A woman sitting beside us replied as she stared at Sir Killian.
"It's probably some business stuff." I said now looking anywhere but Sir Killian.
"Wow, this is the first time I've seen him shout," Megan mumbled and shuddered. "Terrifying."
"I always hear him shout," The stranger beside us replied. "My supervisor is quite slow so he gets shouted at all the time."
"That must be horrible." I can't even stand his glare! "Anyway, Shouldn't we go back inside Megan? It seems like their meeting is over because Sir Killian is already here."
Megan suddenly looked at me, her eyes wide. "We should go! We don't want him shouting at us." She said and dragged me.
"See you later?" Megan said and I waved my hand at the woman who was looking at us in pity.
We walked fast. Small quick steps that made us look like awkwardly late employees who are trying to act like nothing's wrong and that everything is fine—running could have been better.
As I walked away I could feel the fury inside me fade. But the piercing glare of Sir Killian did not leave me alone until I was out of his sight. I'm suddenly thankful for the walls that blocked his gaze on me.
Thank you walls... and doors.
Mr. Willard was already inside the office together with Mr. Celestino, they were busy talking that they did not notice me entering the room. I was able to make my way to my desk without them noticing. Now I hope they will not know that I was late.
"You're here Ms. Loera." Mr. Celestino said and smiled at me.
"I am back sir! Ready to serve!" I grinned and saluted.
"I love your enthusiasm." He laughed, "have you seen my book, Williard?" He asked while looking around Mr. Willard's table.
I stood up and walked towards Mr. Willard's desk and started looking for the book—even though I don't know what kind of book Mr. Celestino is looking for. But Mr. Celestino always holds old-looking books, maybe the one that he is now looking for is an old book too.
"Where did you last put it?" Mr. Willard asked while lifting every document on his desk.
"I thought I brought it with me. Can you please look if I left it in my office, Ms. Loera?"
"Of course sir." I felt excited because I'd never been inside his office.
I bet it looks as grand as the whole building-probably the grandest room.
"I can do it, sir." Mr. Willard suddenly said, which made me stop walking.
I looked at him and he was looking at Mr. Celestino with panicked eyes. Mr. Celestino just smiled at him, "Ms. Loera can do it. Besides, would you like us to mess up all of the files here on your desk?"
Mr. Willard still looks hesitant to let me enter the room. Is there something wrong with me entering the room? Maybe there's some kind of important treasure inside or probably secrets of the company. But it's not like I will steal any of those! Even if it's a national treasure and is worth millions I could never steal it. The only time that I stole something was when I was still young and I kept on stealing coins from my grandma's jar of coins. I never did it again because I was forbidden for the whole week to even enter my grandma's room.
"Trust me, Ash. You can go Ms. Loera." Mr. Celestino said and smiled at me.
I tried to contain my excitement by forcing myself not to hop my way to the door. It was hard because I feel like squirming like a worm whenever I try to contain my excitement.
The room was magnificent! It has the same color palette as the rest of the building; gold, black, brown, and white. At the center of the room is Mr. Celestino's table. The room looks so tidy and organized. I didn't even see a single document lying on the desk.
There are lots of books around. The bookshelves are full of book that looks as old as my grandma.
There is a small sofa set at the back of Mr. Celestino's huge deck that overlooks the forest. There's also a weird metal crown that is enclosed in a glass at the corner of the room. Is this the thing that they were keeping from me? It does not look like a national tressure at all. With its plain thorny design and it looks like it's already rusting. Why would they waste glass on this rusting iron?
I decided to ignore it and stepped closer to Mr. Celestino's desk. His desk was huge with two monitors and one keyboard. There's also an expensive looking fountain pen beside the pile of vintage notebooks and books. There are even old looking paper or scrolls that are kept in a drawer.
Where did they get such an old looking paper? It looks as if it was used at the time when royal families rule the world!
Would they be mad if I got one?
I guess it is safe for me to not open any more drawers to not get distracted by temptations. I looked at the pile of books again and decided to grab the one at the top. It looks old with the yellowish pages and it is the thickest among the rest.
And maybe Mr. Celestino was just reading this and decided to put it at the top of his pile of books.
The weight of the book was unexpected. I almost dropped it on the ground! It's as heavy as my piggy bank!
How can a book weigh this much?
I struggled to hold it with one hand so I decided to just hug it. Outside, Mr. Celestino and Mr. Willard are whispering to each other. I dropped the big book at the table in the middle of them which created a loud thud.
I expected the desk to break since I just carelessly dropped the heaviest book that I carried in my existence on it but it did not—this desk is impressively sturdy.
They both looked at me in shock when I dropped the book. Their faces were a mixture of shock and amazement.
"That book is the heaviest book in existence," I said and pointed at the book.
The Book of Knowledge
'For the head and crown of the protectors. May you use this to serve your duty'
"The book of knowledge? For the head? That is a weird dedication on the cover of the book." I said as I read the title.
"You can read it?" Asked Mr. Willard, his voice was a mixture of amusement and shock.
"Yeah, can't you?"
