We Are Avengers

Chapter 23: We Are Avengers

The silence was loud as we sat around the conference table at the CEO's office. I played around with my hands as I tried to ignore the tension within the room. Though no normal human being could ignore the ripples of tension I could almost see physically.

Sir Killian was glaring at Mr. Jareth. If looks could kill I bet Mr. Jareth will be dead on the floor by now. Mr. Jareth couldn't care less about Sir Killian's glare as he paid most of his attention to his phone. Ms. Alderei, however, was busy staring at this ancient-looking paper that was spread out at the other side of the table. She did not want any of the guys to bother her as she was on the other side of the table.

No one seemed to be brave enough to be anywhere near her as she looked at her paper with deep concentration. Even I don't want to be near her.

I did not want to sit beside Ms. Alderei as she looked like she could murder anyone who disturbed her. Hence, I was forced to sit beside Sir Killian who looked like he could kill Mr. Jareth anytime. I don't even know if I'll be able to stop him if he ever decides to be a murderer and just jump towards Mr. Jareth to kill him.

Mr. Willard was away, he was calling Mr. Celestino from what I've eavesdropped. I can only remember very little of how we got inside the CEO's office. All I can remember was Sir Killian lifting me up and then we teleported, again.

Teleportation is something I do not want to do again no matter how cool it is.

"I can't find it." Ms. Alderei said, her hand on her forehead as she looked at the paper intently.

She then closed her eyes and opened them again, only to shake her head.

It seems like all we did this morning was find something. At first, we were looking for something in the forest now we are looking for something in the office. I don't even want to think what we'll look for at night. And how will she find what she's looking for when she's just staring at her old-looking paper?

Everyone around me seems to always look for something.

"Will you stop glaring at Mr. Jareth, sir?" I whispered to Sir Killian.

Mr. Jareth was uncomfortable. He hadn't looked up from his phone since we arrived. I admire him for not leaving the room with the glares Sir Killian is throwing at him. If I were him I would've tried my best to avoid Sir Killian for the whole day. Ugh. Just the thought of Sir Killian's glare directed at me sends a shiver down my spine.

He was handsome, that's a check but he looks scary whenever he glares at someone or something. If I was a thing and Sir Killian was glaring at me? I'll probably come back to life and run the heck out of his sight.

"If he stops being a stubborn ass then I will." He said and continued his glare.

"Well, your glare seems like it's not working," I whispered my reply.

Sir Killian didn't bother to reply, he just continued his glaring assault on Mr. Jareth.

I didn't bother to interrupt their war. I would have bothered but both of them are stubborn like my cousins. However, with my cousins, I know how to act and I can scold them. I mostly ended up being the one getting scolded by my aunt but still, I knew how to act. Now, I'm just a mere employee of my bosses and a boss getting scolded by an employee is out of the window.

I've done it once, scolding my boss, but he was such an idiot and he didn't have this scary aura and he didn't belong in this supernatural thing going on.

"What a pleasant morning."

I turned to look at Mr. Celestino who had just entered the room followed by Mr. Willard. He was smiling but his eyes held this seriousness that I haven't seen since I started working here. He sat at the vacant seat and Mr. Willard soon followed.

"Yeah, we finally found a trace of the princess's location." Ms. Alderei said.

"At the same time that we felt the princess's presence a darkling appeared." Mr. Willards said with a frown.

"Well, this is an eventful morning. But why don't we explain to Ms. Loera what's going on." He said and smiled at me.

I froze in my seat as five sets of eyes turned to look at me. I opened my mouth and closed it again when no words came out. I don't know what to say. No normal person will know what to say. Should I say yeah I'm confused and I need my brain to be cleared of this fog that's been there since I started working for them? No. Never.

"I'm surprised that you're taking this very calmly." Mr. Celestino smiled.

"Ah well, I haven't got much time to think in the past few hours." I chuckled.

I had plenty of time, but I figured that I'd rather think of less stressful things, like how to get my bike shipped here without my aunt interfering than stress myself more when I'm already in a stressful situation.

"Let us start with the basics then." He said and a whiteboard slid down from the ceiling. "As you may already know. Humans are not the only ones living in this world. Supernaturals exist too." He got up from his seat and went to the whiteboard.

"And we are supernaturals. As well as some employees." He was watching me with his weary expression.

Of course, I knew that the others were not human. If the boss is supernatural surely some of their employees would have to be supernatural. I'm betting my salary that Carlos, my neighbor, is a supernatural.

I nodded and he smiled at me.

"The thing is, we, Ms. Loera are not just any ordinary supernaturals."

I blinked, "You're more supernaturals than the supernaturals?" I asked, confused.

There's a thing such as an ordinary supernatural huh? I guess it's only fair that there is. Not every human is ordinary and a supernatural can have something that isn't as ordinary I guess.

They chuckled, even Sir Killian chuckled, which made me look at him, surprised and genuinely shocked at his perfect space.

"Well, we are the chosen." Mr. Willard said and smiled.

I raised my brows.

"We are chosen to protect the humans from the supernatural and vice versa." Mr. Celestino said. "Aside from our natural supernatural power, As for me I'm a dragon so I have the ability of a dragon."

"You're a dragon?!" I almost got up from my seat in shock. "But you look like a human, er, I mean you look like an ordinary person." I cringed when I couldn't find the right keyword to describe what I intended to describe.

How would you describe a supernatural that they look human even though they are technically not human? Yeah, very confusing.

They chuckled again, though Mr. Jareth was laughing too loud. I felt myself redden from embarrassment.

"Well, Ms. Loera, a dragon in the true supernatural world is a being who can transform into one. And a dragon is probably the second strongest being in this world." He said and smiled.

I probably looked like a child looking at Disney World. I tried to picture the ever-smiling Mr. Celestino as a dragon. He probably still looked very kind in his dragon form.

"Guess what I am Irene?" Mr. Jareth grinned at me.

"Avatar?" I still can't forget all the wind around.

"Close! I'm an elemental half-elf. My elemental power is wind." He said enthusiastically then a gush of wind enveloped me.

That's why he looked like he was floating when we were running! He was floating using the wind! How I wish I could do that too! I bet everything will be easy, it's basically like flying!

"That's cool! But where's your pointy ear?" I asked cautiously while looking at his ear.

"As I said, I'm only half, fortunately, I didn't get the pointy ear or I wouldn't be able to mingle with humans as much." He sounded relieved while touching his ear.

I nodded in agreement and looked at Ms. Alderei who looked shocked when I looked at her expectantly. I bet I look like a dog begging for treats. But they are so intriguing and interesting I just can't help but feel excited! I felt giddy jumpy and excited from all the new information about them.

I'm also really happy that I am starting to know them for who they truly are.

"Well, I'm an elemental and I have a little bit of witch blood." She said and looked away.

I held my gaze at her. More. Give me more. Like what is your elemental power? Why do you only have a little witch blood? And witches are real! I suddenly felt giddy because I always dress up as a witch for Halloween. I feel like me and Ms. Alderei will get along well after all!

She cleared her throat before proceeding. "My elemental power is lightning and I'm only a quarter witch." She said and pointed at Sir Killian beside me.

So she can control lightning! That's what Mr. Jareth wants if I remember correctly. I turned my head to look at Sir Killian next.

"I am a half werewolf half-winged." He simply said.

"What is a winged?" I asked.

"Winged are those that have wings. They quite literally look like an angel. With their wings and beautiful appearances." Mr. Jareth said and he was suddenly in deep thought.

I turned to look at Sir Killian in surprise. "You have wings? And you're a werewolf too?" My eyes were wide as I looked at him.

That's why he was so beautifully dazzling! He is not angel-looking, of course not! He oozes this dangerous vibes that nobody will mistake him for an angel. But he has this captivating charm that makes everyone turn their head towards him if he ever passes by.

And he is a werewolf?! Like the werewolves that I read in books?! And the ones that I watch on TV?! I love werewolves!

"That's cool! Can you turn into a werewolf with wings?!" I asked excitedly.

His eyes were uncharacteristically bright as he looked at my, probably very excited expression.

He chuckled. "I unfortunately can't do that. But I can show you my forms separately." He said and he smiled at me.

He smiled at me.

And he laughed! Even though it's technically not a laugh.

I felt my heart jump and I was afraid my eyes would go blind from how beautiful his smile was. That smile is forbidden to humans! Even if that smile is so little and small, Ms. Alderei from the other side of the table probably can't see it, but to me? It's huge.

Is this the first time I've seen him smile? If my mind is still functioning I think it is. I didn't know his smile could make my heart beat fast like it was running a marathon.

And his laugh? Music to my ears. It surpassed any composition of any great composers. You bet I could listen to it. his voice in my most depressed mood and suddenly become the happiest person.

Someone's fake cough interrupted my admiration of Sir Killian.

Ah, I remember. I am in the office discussing supernatural stuff. I shouldn't be daydreaming about my boss.

I turned my gaze at Mr. Celestino whose eyes were brighter than the sun beside him Mr. Willard was trying to hide his smile by looking down at his phone that was upside down.

"What about you Mr. Willard?" I asked my cheeks still flaming red.

Everyone went silent and suddenly, the bright atmosphere became dark. It felt like my question was a disaster that just destroyed the entire atmosphere.
