Weekend break

It was the weekend, and the campus was unusually quiet. Emily, Eve's closest friend and confidante, was preparing to visit her parents. Before leaving she stopped by Eve's dorm room. Her bright, bubbly personality fills the small space with a comforting warmth.

"Are you sure you don't want to come with me?" Emily asked, her eyes full of concern. "It's going to be fun, and my mom makes the best lasagna."

Eve smiled appreciatively. "Thanks, Emily, but I have a lot of work to catch up on. Plus, I promised Victor I'd finish our research reports this weekend."

Emily sighed, her brows knitting together with worry. "Okay, but are you going to be okay here all by yourself? You know, with the campus being so empty and all."

Eve nodded, her smile reassuring. "I'll be fine, I promise. I've got a lot to keep me busy."

"All right, then," Emily relented. "I'll be back tomorrow afternoon. Call me if you need anything."
