As he opened the door, the familiar face of Emily appeared on the other side, her hand raised mid-knock as if preparing to tap again. In her hands, she carried a small box. The smell of freshly baked bread and something sweet wafted into the room, immediately breaking the tension that had settled moments before.
Emily's eyes widened slightly in surprise as she saw Victor standing in the doorway. "Victor?" she asked. Her voice was soft but tinged with curiosity. "I didn't expect to see you here…so early."
Victor met her gaze calmly. "She needed someone here," he replied, his voice steady. "It wasn't an issue."
Her surprise melted into understanding as she walked inside, her footsteps light against the floor.
