10 mysteries About Character
INTRODUCTION
Every character has a spirit either good or bad and Determination to improve character (self improvement) does not take away that spirit but determination to be freed, takes away that spirit.
You were not born with characters, you were born with purpose; you can only grow with a character that was passed on to you.
You were never birth with a character, you were only birth with gifts, purpose and names, find them out.
Reading further into the book will open your eyes to see the possibilities in characters.
Your Character either makes you or mares you.
You might have been trying your possible best to change a character that you posses but to no avail, maybe you have visited the therapist thousand times but still no changes, you might have just had no option that to settle under the canopy of "that's just who I am" but the good news is that, you can be better and you can be made perfect.
No matter how hard you've tried, this book is for you so don't just stop at chapter one but read till the end because there's a gift for you at the end of the book.
Now, the best way to practice what you'll read in the book, is to get a sticky note or a book and pen down important things that you know will work for you.
Get your popcorn ready as you journey.
UNDERSTANDING CHARACTERS
Character is fundamental to how we engage with the world, who we engage with, how we act and make decisions, and what we notice and reinforce.
Character defines who we are. So when we judge someone else, we often judge them based on character. For example, when someone always seems to do the right thing, we classify him/her as a person of high ethical standards. Likewise, when someone is constantly negative, we consider him/her to have a pessimistic view.
Character can also refer to a person's moral or ethical quality. If you are a person of good character, you are trustworthy and reliable. Related to that, if you have character, you are honest and courageous or have integrity.
Character, in biology, any observable feature, or trait, of an organism, whether acquired or inherited. An acquired character is a response to the environment; an inherited character is produced by genes transmitted from parent to offspring (their expressions are often modified by environmental conditions).
One gene may affect many characters; one character may be controlled by many genes. A character controlled by only a few genes is known as an oligogenic, or qualitative, character; oligogenic characters demonstrate discontinuous variation (in which traits are discrete; e.g., blood type is either AB, A, B, or O). A character controlled by many genes is known as polygenic, or quantitative; such characters demonstrate continuous variation (e.g., weight or height, each of which spans a range of values). A genetically controlled character may be described as dominant when its controlling genes are powerful enough to mask the effect of other genes (alleles) that control an alternative, or recessive, character.
Keep reading, we are getting somewhere.
From Biology, we can see that Character is either acquired from environment or inherited from parents to offspring. This alone tells us that Character is a pattern not natural.
Either you acquire it or inherit it, it tells you that it can be changed. Acquired Character tells us that we can be controlled by the environment which makes the environment a spirit personality and inherited Character tells us that we can be controlled by same thing that controlled our parents or forefathers, making that thing a spirit personality.
Anything that can control you is a Spirit personality (just the same way the Holy Spirit can control us).
Furthermore, in Biology we can understand that we have two different types of Characters, we will examine this and relate it to how they are spirit personalities.
DOMINANT CHARACTER
It is a character expressed by a dominant gene. Dominant gene is the one which expresses itself in the presence of its contrasting which is considered to be a suppressed gene. In simple word, the characters which are expressed more often and observed more commonly in the population is called dominant Character.
Now, we can replace the term "gene" with spirit.
The spirit controls you and what we see on the outward is what we call the "Character".
Dominant Characters are the Characters that are more noticeable to others around you or far from you, however, there are some characters that are barely noticeable to the public but you are fully aware of that Character, these Characters are termed "Recessive Characters"
RECESSIVE CHARACTER
This is somewhat almost the opposite of Dominant Character.
The gene which remains hidden or unexpressed is known as a recessive gene and the character controlled by it is called the recessive character. In the presence of a dominant allele, a recessive allele or factor is unable to express its influence.
Still replacing the term "gene" with Spirit, we can drive that there are spirits that we as humans posses but remains hidden or unexpressed.
You might have a character that is good but find it difficult to express which might lead you to being alone. The reason this happens is because, the spirit backing the bad Character is way stronger than the spirit backing the good Character and the only way out of it is God's divine intervening help.
In the next chapter, we will examine good spirited characters that we think as normal or as curtsy.
Keep reading dear reader.
THREE GOOD SPIRITED CHARACTER WE IGNORE OR SEE AS NORMS
There are so many Characters that we consider as norms and most times(because it's good), we term it as normal and leaves it unappreciated but in this study, we will examine Three(3) unappreciated characters.
COURTESY
In the World we live today, a lot of people see courtesy as a normal thing that everyone should possess as a character but in my journey as a human writer, I found out that some people don't see courtesy as something so important or even when done is termed "normal"
What then is courtesy?
It is behavior marked by polished manners or respect for others. A courtesy is a polite remark or respectful act. Complain about a bad meal, and you might get kicked out. But the common courtesy is usually an apology from the manager and, if you're lucky, a free dinner.
Courtesy is all about using your good manners, which is why it shares roots with the word courteous. Holding the door open for someone, writing a thank-you note for a gift, and letting the pregnant lady have the last seat on the bus are all courtesies that would make your parents proud. And if something is kindly presented to you free of charge, the gift-giver may say it's "courtesy of" someone special.
So, how do people not appreciate this? Every single act of kindness (no matter how little) shouldn't go unappreciated. Feeling entitled to any form of kindness is a wrong thing to do no matter how you in person have been of help to that human.
The initial fact that some have this courtesy and some don't, shows that there's a spirit behind it. While some are courtesy spirited, others are not courtesy spirited.
We could dwell much on this but I'll wrap this up with few quotes on Courtesy:
"Politeness costs nothing and gains everything." - Lady Montague
"Courtesy is as much a mark of a gentleman as courage." - Theodore Roosevelt
"The true greatness of a person, in my view, is evident in the way he or she treats those with whom courtesy and kindness are not required." - Joseph B. Wirthlin
"All doors open to courtesy." - Thomas Fuller
A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love. – Saint Basil
"Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart." - Henry Clay
"As we are, so we do; and as we do, so is it done to us; we are the builders of our fortunes." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Talk to strangers politely… Every friend you have now was once a stranger, although not every stranger becomes a friend." – Israelmore Ayivor
"Not only the footwear, wear also the courtesy, respect, and gratitude in your heart while stepping out of home." – Rupali Desai
"Politeness is a desire to be treated politely, and to be esteemed polite oneself." - Francois de La RochefRochefoucaul
INTERCESSION
The truth is that we deserve nothing but we feel entitled to things.
Intercession can be in prayers for someone or speaking on behalf of someone just to ensure the person gets what he/she desires. A simple definition is, the action of intervening on behalf of another.
Intercession or intercessory prayer is the act of praying to a deity on behalf of others. In Western Christianity, Intercession forms a distinct form of prayer, alongside adoration, confession and Thanksgiving.
Now, intercession is a good spirited character because it takes a good spirit to act on behalf of another person. Not everyone has the spirit to do that, so, it must be appreciated and not seen as entitlement or norms. Let's examine few quotes on Intercession as a character:
"To make intercession for men is the most powerful and practical way in which we can express our love for them." ~ John Calvin
Intercession is bringing the person, or the circumstance that seems to be crashing in on you, before God, until you are changed by His attitude toward that person or circumstance. ~Oswald Chambers
Love for our neighbors does not die the minute we enter heaven, it intensifies. ~E.A. Bucchianeri
ACTS OF SERVICE
This is nothing but a good spirited Character which we see as norms and so do not appreciate it. I won't dwell much here but be thankful for the slightest of this that men show you.
Acts of Service is a language that can best be described as doing something for your partner that you know they would like, such as filling up their gas, watering their plants, or cooking them a meal.
When you give Acts of Service, you give up your time. This non-verbal form of love can be time-consuming and exhausting, but if it's what your partner needs, then it's worth the effort.
Without further explanations, the following quotes will give you a better understanding:
"What you do has far greater impact than what you say."
- Steven Covey
"Service is what life is all about."
- Marian Wright Edelman
"Great acts are made up of small deeds."
- Lao Tzu
"Goodness is the only investment that never fails."
- Henry David Thoreau
"As we serve others we are working on ourselves; every act, every word, every gesture of genuine compassion naturally nourishes our own hearts as well. It is not a question of who is healed first. When we attend to ourselves with compassion and mercy, more healing is made available for others. And when we serve others with an open and generous heart, great healing comes to us."
- Wayne Muller
"Service is what prayer looks like when it gets up off its knees and walks around in the world."
- Michael J. Graham, S.J.
"People say, 'What is the sense of our small effort?' They cannot see that we must lay one brick at a time, take one step at a time. A pebble cast into a pond causes ripples that spread in all directions. Each one of our thoughts, words and deeds is like that. No one has a right to sit down and feel hopeless. There's too much work to do."--Dorothy Day
"We work to become, not to acquire."
- Elbert Hubbard
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in service of others."
- Mahatma Gandhi
"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth."
- Muhammad Ali.
Let's now look further into examples of Bad Spirited Characters.
TWO (2) BAD SPIRITED CHARACTER THAT WE IGNORE OR SEE AS NORMS
In the same manner where we have so many bad Spirited Characters, I in this book will make emphasis on Two that we term as "that's who I am" or "not a big deal".
GIVING UP
Giving Up is to cease doing or attempting something especially as an admission of defeat. Believe it or not, it's the worse decision to make and here are few reasons:
1. There is a difference between "putting an idea away" vs "giving up."
Call it semantics, but there is a fundamental difference between "quitting" something in a fit of frustration, and taking an idea to the end of its path and then deciding, calmly and with a clear head, that it's time to move on to something else.
When you "give up," you continue to carry that baggage with you long into the future. You still think about it. You wonder. You may even feel regret.
That's very different than fighting as long as you can for an idea and then realizing its time to pivot, or shift, or move on all together.
2. It will make you less productive.
If you are a driven individual and then one day you "give up," there is a pretty high chance you'll continue to obsess over it even if you aren't actively working on it. And if you're still thinking about it, that's energy being spent in that direction. And if energy is being spent in that direction, that's energy you could have been spending more productively.
3. You associate "giving up" with "failure."
When you pour your heart into something, only to realize this one path or venture wasn't what you thought, isn't what you want, etc., and you decide to move on to something else, that's one thing. If you pour your heart and into something and decide to "give up" at the 5 yard line, however, that's completely different.
Don't drop the ball at the 5 yard line. You're right there. If you give up because it's hard, or because it's tough, or because you're frustrated and things aren't going your way, then you will most likely chalk the whole thing up to being "a failure."
Don't settle for "failure." Carry the idea through, and if you want to pivot then pivot. But do so in a way that acknowledges all the hard work you put into the journey.
4. It encourages the habit.
When you "give up" on something, it encourages the habit. You start to be "ok" with quitting—and that's not good. Resilience is the habit you want to practice here.
5. Your reputation suffers.
If you give up on a project or venture with other people, they're going to remember. And the next time an opportunity comes around, and your name gets brought up, the first thing that's going to be said is, "Oh, last time he gave up."
If you need to step away, or you decide you want to move on to something different, that's fine. But do so in a way that is professional and appropriate to the situation. Throwing your hands up in the air and saying, "I'm done" sets a bad precedent—and people will remember.
6. You never know what it could have been.
They say millionaires have 7 sources of income. Part of that challenge means getting really good at juggling multiple ventures or pursuits at once.
If you give up on ideas in their infancy, you are short-changing your investment. Creating multiple income streams is all about continuing to "water" your ideas over time, allowing them to grow into something of their own. If you give up before an idea has fully matured, you never know what could have been.
7. You practice unhealthy "self talk."
Again, going back to the mindset behind "giving up," the reason why this is so toxic is, depending on your own emotional habits, your subconscious may internalize this "failure." Giving up on something may seem like a quick solution to a larger problem, but the truth is it tends to lead to unhappiness, regret, and feelings of poor self esteem.
If you simply must "give up," then do your best not to punish yourself for it long after the fact.
8. You lose faith in yourself.
And finally, the fundamental reason why you should never "give up" is because it will make you question your ability to execute in the future.
Creating something of value, and being creative, always comes down to how much you believe in yourself and your idea. It doesn't have to do with talent, or "who you know," or any of that. It just comes down to raw core self-esteem, and the willingness to see an idea through to the end.
Don't give up.
It's not worth it.
Whilst you might still be thinking on that, here are few quotes from experienced experts:
1. Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does." —William James
2. "Work like there is someone working 24 hours a day to take it away from you." —Mark Cuban
3. "It is when we are most lost that we sometimes find our truest friends." —Brothers Grimm
4. "Life isn't finding shelter in the storm. It's about learning to dance in the rain." ―Sherrilyn Kenyon
5. "When you have a dream, you've got to grab it and never let go." —Carol Burnett
6. "Everything that's broken was beautiful at one time. And our mistakes make us better people." —Jamie Hoang
7. "We all can dance when we find music that we love." —Giles Andreae
8."I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination." —Jimmy Dean
9. "Just because someone stumbles and loses their path, doesn't mean they're lost forever." –Professor X
10. "Believe you can and you're halfway there." —Theodore Roosevelt
Always remember that no matter how hard it is, there's always light at the end of the tunnel.
INCONSISTENCY
Someone or something that is inconsistent does not stay the same, being sometimes good and sometimes bad.
Living a life with no consistency is a recipe for disaster. Whether in your personal or business life, living with inconsistency will lead to missed deadlines and poor performance and create unnecessary friction between you and those around you. Consistency can also be very dangerous if it is not applied correctly.
Having an inconsistent lifestyle can be a significant setback to your progress. So let's look at how we should handle it and how it affects our day-to-day lives.
Inconsistency is one of the biggest time wasters in our careers, yet only a few people talk about it. And that's a shame because no one will pay attention to you if you are consistently inconsistent.
An inconsistent work experience can negatively impact your career, especially if you are starting. Unlike other professions, your jobs are critical in shaping who you are as a person. You choose your employment based on personal interests and career opportunities that align with your strengths, interests, and aspirations.
When we are inconsistent with our actions, we do not know what to do and when. We may have a plan for a specific task but then get distracted by other things that come up and change our minds about it. As a result, we end up not doing our functions, which can be disastrous if you want to achieve something in your career or business.
It would be best if you tried to be consistent with your actions because this will help you achieve more in life than someone inconsistent with their actions.
If you have goals in life, then consistency will help you achieve them faster than someone who is not consistent with their actions. It would be best to think about what you want to accomplish before starting any project or task so it becomes part of your daily routine. If you aren't consistent throughout the day, then the chances are that some functions will get left behind without completion, which means that you won't reach your expected goal.
When we are inconsistent with our actions, we affect the people around us.
The first thing that happens when we are inconsistent is that people tend to stop trusting us. They notice that they are dealing with someone unreliable and start to doubt whether they can rely on you.
People may even avoid you because they don't want to be dishonest with themselves by giving you their trust.
So this means that if you want to be successful in business or relationships, then consistency is vital. If you don't make your actions match your words and opinions, people will stop trusting what you say and do.
Inconsistency is bad. It can be frustrating and discouraging, especially if it's not your fault. You may have difficulty feeling good about yourself because you never know when or where you'll get the chance to shine.
Inconsistency is also hard to defeat, making it harder to become consistent with anything. If you're trying to stabilize a job, a relationship or a new skill, the last thing you want is to feel like there's no point in getting up at all.
How does this happen? It happens whenever we try to do something new without realizing how much of our focus needs to be on the current task at hand. Our brain doesn't like doing two things at once; if we're doing one thing poorly, we won't be able to do another well either.
But what if I told you that there's an easier way? If you take the time to think well about what matters most before starting your next project and give yourself enough time to succeed, then success will come naturally.
Doing things out of order or at a different time than is expected will not only throw you off your game but also disappoint others around you. If you have the chance to complete a task ahead of time, even if it means taking the mission a step back one more time to get everything done evenly and on time, then do it. It will put you in excellent standing with others and keep things from being rushed in the future.
Stay consistent. That's the whole point. When you have a goal, don't be afraid to achieve it. We all struggle with things we want so badly, but at the end of the day, if you think you are willing to take on your goals and change your life, let nothing stop you.
Here are few quotes to help your analysis:
• "Inconsistency itself breeds vitality." ― Kenzo Tange
• "The signature of mediocrity is chronic inconsistency." ― James C. Collins
• "One cannot live without inconsistency." ― Carl Jung
• "An inconsistency is built into the design of our mind." ― Daniel Kahneman, Thinking, Fast and Slow
• "Inconsistency has been overpraised by people who do not expect to suffer from it." ― Mason Cooley
• "Inconsistency is the only thing in which men are consistent." ― Horace Smith
