The Samurai and The Royal Capital

The Samurai and The Royal Capital

"Mimi, are you sure you're okay down there?" Fervis called to me from above as I jumped and jumped, creating puddles of water beneath my feet.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" I responded as I tried to jump higher and reach her altitude, but I was struggling to control the steps.

Fervis and I continued our journey to the Capital after the brief encounter with humans that Fervis had described as Dragon Hunters. They were humans who focused on capturing half Dragons such as Fervis. Fervis isn't a weak dragon at all, but the magic sealing chain nets that they used could be a challenge for her.

From what I observed in the fight, without sealing her magic those puny humans would stand no chance in a battle against her, and Fervis was only 15 years old… the same age as myself according to Luna.

We were now traveling to the capital while I practiced my newly improved "Gentle Puddle Step." During the battle with the Dragon Hunters, I discovered that when I infused Mythica with the technique, I gained the ability to pretty much run on the air. It was one of the most amazing feelings that I had ever experienced since I got to this world.

"Mimi…" Fervis lowered her altitude so that we were side by side with each other, but she was just slightly more ahead.

"Fervis, what's up?" I smiled at her as I continued to follow in her direction.

"Uh, when you said that you liked me…" Fervis's face suddenly brightened, and she interrupted herself and started to fly back upwards.

'Hmm, did I do something?' I pondered about what could be troubling her and concluded that she might be worried about more Dragon Hunters, so I made sure to focus on anything and anyone beneath us.

-

"Let's take a break here, Mimi" Fervis pointed at a huge tree that seemed to stand out heavily among all the trees that we had passed.

It was very much evident when I began my descent to the ground and immediately started to feel replenished of any energy I had expended. 'Is this pure Mythica?'

I started to slow down my steps until I halted my last step right before crashing into the enormous tree. I slumped over by the tree and stretched my arms and legs. 'It is unfortunately a lot of exercise to use those steps for so long.'

"Mimi? I'm landing now." Fervis's flapping wings created a gust of dust and dirt, which caused me to cough.

As she landed right beside me, she grabbed me by the shoulders and quickly forced my face down into her lap. I was completely caught off guard by the action, but Fervis seemed insistent, so I allowed her to.

"Y-You're probably tired after all of that, r-right?" Fervis stammered her words out and tilted her head away from me.

'She wasn't this nervous the first time we met? Is it because she has seen my skills and now views me as a threat?' I pondered. 'I guess I should sleep in her lap then…'  As I continued to think, I felt my consciousness slipping until finally sleep arrived.

-

When I awoke, the sun had already set, and I looked up to see a drowsy Fervis who was fighting to stay awake. I observed her for over a minute, watching her bright red eyes flutter open and shut multiple times.

When the girl directed her gaze back to me, I quickly shut my eyes in a panic about something. I wasn't even sure why I pretended to stay asleep, but after I shut my eyes tightly, a soft touch grazed my cheek.

I never opened my eyes to confirm, but I was almost certain that it was Fervis's lips. The action was followed by her muttering, "Wake up already…"

In a few minutes, I quickly opened my eyes to see that the lass had fallen asleep, and I smiled as I raised my head from her lap. The action didn't wake her at all and instead, her head tilted as it became propped up by my shoulder.

As I touched my cheek in shock, I realized… 'that girl really kissed me!'

That was the first time in both of my lives that I had been kissed by a woman who wasn't a family member. At least from what I could remember, but I don't think I ever had a lover when I was a samurai. I truly only dedicated myself to honing the skill of the sword.

The only problem was, I was also a girl, so I was unsure of how Fervis felt about me. 'Can you become lovers with another girl?' I thought to myself.

'I'll have to research this when we get to the Capital!'

Finally, after such a long trek, Fervis and I found ourselves standing at the enormous gate of the Capital the very next day just after dawn. Countless humans and demi-humans walked in and out of the gate. All of them were showing the guards who stood by the gate a strange square that was imbued with text.

"Hey Fervis, what is that weird square that all of these people keep showing to the guards?" As I asked, Fervis chuckled and pulled one of the strange squares out of her pocket for me to view.

"This is called a status plate. It's carried around by all citizens of the Royal Capital." She explained as she pointed to some of the text that it displayed.

Name: Fervis

Age: 15

Race: Demi-Human (Dragonoid)

Job: Court Mage

STR: 150

DEX: 135

AGI: 280

MAG: 1,500

Mythica Capacity: 3,000-3,000

Skills: Fire Magic (Lvl: 8), Wind Magic (Lvl: 5), Dimensional Magic (Lvl:3), Teleportation, Dragon Claws (Lvl:1), Advanced Recovery, Mythica Manipulation, Flight Magic, Dragon Rage (Lvl:???)

I couldn't help but stare in confusion at the information displayed on the status plate. 'What does any of this stuff even mean'

Fervis seemed to discern my confusion and began explaining the different texts on the plate. She explained that the text on the left was what they called "Stats" and it pretty much measures a persons strength. The bottom displays someones skills; this shows the affinity one has with a certain type of technique whether it is magic or weaponry.

'So, they use a measly piece of metal engraved with numbers to discern who the strong are? How disgusting. The strong should battle in duels to determine one's true abilities,' I scoffed.

"Mimi? Are you okay?" Fervis asked as she observed my lip curled up in disgust.

"Fervis, where do I go to have one of these Status Plates created for myself?" I asked.

"Oh, we just need to get you registered at the adventurer's guild, which is in the city." Fervis pointed inside of the gate.

"Well, let us make our way then, Fervis."
