FIRST TASK

The early morning sun blanketed the world, with its beautiful warm heat.

The trees were doing a good job of trying to keep it all to themselves, but some of it still escaped through the gaps of their leaves and were finally able to bless the earth with its beautiful ambiance.

Five slowly woke up as the warm glow of the sun touched his face.

He opened his eyes and discovered that he was lying on the ground, with trees surrounding him.

He quickly got up, to observe his surroundings properly.

Soon enough he can conclude, that he appears to be in the woods or forest.

How and when he got here, he couldn't fathom.

Not long after, everything began to make sense as he remembered what happened before now.

*FLASHBACK*

After getting to his sector as instructed by Zero, he found a long box, placed on his bed.

He wasn't the only that got something placed on his box, everyone else had similar boxes placed on their beds in the large shared room.

On top of the boxes, is a little paper embedded on it, which had two words ("Dress up") digitally written on it.

He exerted a little force on the box and soon enough he pulled open the box to reveal its contents, which were a black cargo pant with lots of pockets, a black round-neck polo, a black button jacket, a waterproof watch, and a serrated edge knife inside a black leather thigh knife sheath.

The jacket and pants had a small glass-looking white peace sign emblem embedded on the front left sides.

Raising his head to look around, he discovers that others got something similar, but when it came to weapons it was a different story altogether.

Some got knives like him, others rifles, pistols, shotguns, grenades, and even rocket launchers.

Are we going to war? That was the only thought in Five's mind, maybe all their minds.

He didn't dare to ponder on it for long though, he quickly put on everything he had and dutifully waited for their first task to be relayed.

He took in meditative deep breaths to calm his heart and nerves, one of the things they had been taught to do.

Soon he was as calm as a lake, as he looked at the waterproof watch on his hands. The thirty mikes given to them coincidentally ended at that time.

All of a sudden, the shutters of the large sleeping area in their sector which they all currently were closed, drawing the attention of everyone and ceasing the murmurs and little talks that were already taking place after they all got dressed.

Surprisingly enough, the large door of the room which had never been shut before, closed by itself.

From nowhere an emotionless female voice from a speaker, which couldn't be seen sounded around the room "For your first task, you will have to be the only survivor on an unknown Island with hidden dangers after three days. You will take out anyone you see, by knocking them out or injuring them badly. The white emblem on your clothes will turn red when they are declared dead. If declared dead you are expected to remain in place with no further interaction and will be taken away later. The watch on your hands has three functions: telling you the time, the number of survivors, and a compass. On the last day make your way to the North side of the island. Good luck ." With that, the emotionless female voice from the speakers ceased.

The murmurs in the room were about to start again when a pssshhhh sound resounded in the room as if the air had been let out from a tyre.

Green smoke slowly started filling the room, where it came from is a mystery.

Seeing the familiar green smoke after nine years, Five knew exactly what the smoke does and just shook his head. "Not again".

That was his last straight thought before he started feeling dizzy and fell unconscious, joining the rest who had already lost consciousness.

similar even took place in the Neos sector, except their black wears, were blue.

*END OF FLASHBACK*

After getting his bearing on how he arrived here, Five starts checking his pockets to see if there's anything in them after noticing the little weight they now have.

He finds some rations in them, consisting of two energy bars only.

He made sure to check if his knife was still in place in his thigh.

He let out a relieved sigh after getting the confirmation that it was intact.

Before thinking of the next thing to do, he checked his watch to look at the number of survivors.

He pressed the only button on the watch and the digital watch interface changed to 198.

Including the Neos sector and Expendables, their total number was 198

It seems this was going to be a little difficult, with the addition of Neos, cause they never train together. It may seem unfair to them the Expendables with no power, but when was life ever fair?

He was about to press the button again, which should open the compass interface, but immediately his hand came into contact with the button and was about to press it, the 198 figure dropped to 197.

The meaning of that was obvious, someone has been declared dead. It seems it has begun.

Five wondered how many of them would remain after the first day.

He immediately started using his high intelligence and training for the last nine years to assess the situation. He can't just stay here and wait for someone to come his way.

Even if the objective is to be the last survivor, he has to make sure he is in the best shape to be able to do that.

He needed the three basic things to do that. Food, water, and shelter.

He has two energy bars, but that wasn't going to cut it for three days, he needs to get more food.

He can look for an animal to kill, but roasting it is going to draw attention to himself.

The best bet to get more food was to rob it from others. There was no rule stopping them from taking food from those declared dead.

Now for water, he had to either be lucky or find one for himself.

To find a source of water by himself, he will have to look for signs of animal activity such as tracks or droppings.

For shelter, he could look for a cave or overhangs. But this was a double-edged sword.

Cause there's a fifty percent chance that any shelter he chooses, may likely have been occupied by someone and a trap laid out for any person seeking it.

Well, he decided to think about that later as he made his way out to look for water and possibly get a chance at acquiring more food in his search.

Making sure to step only on grasses to cover his tracks, he took quiet and stealthily steps away from his current location, disregarding the compass for now.

The person who was first declared dead could be said to simply be unfortunate and unlucky.

Due to the random location one was dropped, the blue camouflage recruit was dropped in a non-deadly minefield.

The first step he took was his last, he stepped on a mine, which immediately released red smoke on him as soon as he removed his leg.

As soon as the red smoke came in contact with him, his white peace sign emblems immediately turned red.

All along he still had a confused expression on his face, not yet realizing why he died.

There were cameras scattered all around the Island in hidden locations, with people in black uniforms receiving the live feed in a large dark room.

They were unable to hold back their laughs, seeing what happened and the confused expression of the now-declared-dead young recruit.

Unbeknownst to anyone the most unlucky Componere in history had just been born.
