CALM OF THE NIGHT

Twenty fell squarely on the floor, the bullet had hit his head knocking him out in the process.

Even if it was an airsoft bullet, coming from a sniper rifle with about 2000-4000 ft pounds force it was able to knock him out.

All the fog and ice immediately cleared and dissolved since the person controlling them was no longer conscious. Once the fog disappeared Eighty was a little surprised seeing the now unconscious Twenty on the ground.

She immediately got tense and used her powers to toughen her body's skin and durability thinking she might be next on the list of the person that shot him.

"Bullseye." An excited voice sounded a little far away, which drew her attention, she could see three people but couldn't make out their faces.

As they got a little closer, she was able to recognize them, especially the one she was really familiar with and close with, her sister. She immediately ran up to her and hugged her tight.

The hug could have taken more time if not being broken by Five's question, "What happened here?"

Taking a deep breath, Eighty pointed at Twenty "He killed one of them."

"You mean like killing, killing?" Forty-Four asked for clarification, which Eighty nodded to, "I never knew you can do that."

"It was bound to happen, maybe by mistake or purposely, someone or some people are going to die in this little task, there was no rule stopping it." Five reasoned.

"You with them?"Eighty suddenly asked her sister, but before she could reply Five replied instead.

"For now, but at first light tomorrow, everybody will only care about themselves and how to be the last survivor, don't take it personally when that time comes. "

While scoffing, "I know" Forty One replied coldly.

"So what now?" Eighty asked.

"We head north for now and find somewhere to rest up for the night," Five said while looking at his compass, "Let's go." He continued.

As they were leaving, Five signaled Forty-Four with his eyes to slow down and let the two girls walk ahead, he then got close to Forty-Four and whispered to him, "Whatever you do, don't use that last bullet in the rifle."

Forty-Four nodded in understanding.

Something similar was going on between the two sisters as well, as Forty-one whispered to Eighty. "We have to take those two out this night."

"But they are friends," Eighty said with hesitation.

"Not really, we two sisters are better off together" Seeing the hesitation in her younger sister's eyes, she knew that no matter how much she had grown, she was still innocent at heart and it was her duty as the elder to protect her even if she doesn't see why.

"Look, "Forty-one continued, "You may see them as friends, but I'm sure they are also looking for ways to eliminate us once is daylight, instead of giving them the chance, we will take them by surprise this night ok?"

"...Ok" Eighty finally agreed.

***

Soon it was nighttime, and the group of four were able to locate a large cave to sleep in. As if luck was truly on their side that night, near the cave was a little pond of drinkable water which they used to quench their throats which have already grown patch from not drinking anything for some time now.

They quickly settled in the cave to sleep, but not without arranging to keep watch in the night.

Not trusting each other, they decided that they would keep watch in pairs, Forty-Four volunteered to go first for the first half of the night, Forty-One decided to pair up with him, and they both walked outside the cave to keep watch.

Eighty and Five stood in silence before making their way to different parts of the cave, giving each other as much space as possible.

Everywhere soon became silent in the cave, the only sounds to be heard were that of their rhythmic breathing, which sounded as if they were already asleep. But in reality, they were only pretending, with muscles tensed and minds on high alert as if waiting for something.

Forty-Four and Forty One stood close to each other at the front of the cave. Forty-One raised her head to look at the sky and observed that it was a full moon.

The full moon hung low in the sky, a silvery disc shining brightly. She felt as if she could almost touch the craters and shadows on the moon's surface.

She looked at the stars around the moon and observed that they are not evenly distributed, the stars closest to the moon are brighter and more numerous, while the stars farther away are fainter and fewer in number.

She felt a sense of awe at the sight and felt small and insignificant compared to the vastness of space. She remembered that when she was just a kid she had the aspiration to be an astronaut and explore the vast space of the universe.

But our wishes aren't always what life wishes for us, as life took a turn for the worse, everything now seemed like a distant dream from another lifetime, not hers.

"You never see such beautiful sights in New York."

She was suddenly broken out of her reverie by Forty Four's voice, she took a deep breath to collect her emotions before replying, "You're right, wonder how New York would be now?"

Forty-Four chuckled, "I bet same old New York, busy and bustling"

"You're probably right." She smiled," Do you miss it, New York?"

"Not much, I don't really have anyone or anything to miss there."

"Same here, the only person I really care about is on this Island with me". After saying that she looked at her watch to check the number of people left on the Island, which was now 22.

"You know tomorrow, only one person is gonna remain on this Island."

"I'm not really giving much thought into that," Forty-Four replied while looking around after hearing a wolf howl not far away.

"Is inevitable you know, but I think plans should be made to increase our chances"

"What do you mean?" Forty-Four asked with a raised eyebrow

But instead of replying, she turned her head to look at the cave as a form of answer. Which Forty Four understood after knowing for a fact that she wouldn't do anything to harm her sister. What she wanted was for them to eliminate Five.
