ECLIPSE RISING

Eleanor was jolted awake by the far-off, haunting cries that pierced through the quiet of the night. She felt her heart race as she untangled from Lucas's hug, sensing the chill emptiness he left behind. The shiver down her back signaled that something was very amiss.

"Lucas," she murmured, her voice filled with urgency. He was already up, his eyes mirroring the same worry.

"I can hear them," he responded, moving his legs off the bed. Remain by Liora's side. "I will see what is going on."

"No," she insisted, already in motion. "We confront this as a team.”

Together, they relocated to their daughter’s bedroom. Eleanor discovered Liora cozy under covers, her small body tranquil and pure in the face of the approaching danger. Sitting next to her, she softly planted a kiss on her forehead.

"Liora, please wake up, my dear."

Liora's eyes slowly opened, confusion swiftly turned into worry when she saw her mother's expression. "Mother, what is going on?"
