Story 14: The Silent Vigil

The village was abuzz with activity as men and women gathered, their faces marked with determination and resolve. Young boys, old men, and even women who could wield weapons were mustered at the village border. The back side of the village was locked, and they stood watch on the front, their eyes scanning the horizon for any signs of the enemy.

Time passed slowly, the tension palpable. Some of the older villagers, weary from the long wait, had fallen asleep on the ground. Just when it seemed like the alert might have been a false alarm, a single gunshot shattered the silence. The village sprang to life, the sound of the shot an unmistakable signal.

The enemy emerged from the shadows, approaching with a menacing presence. Their horrific appearance did nothing to dampen the villagers' resolve. Taking aim, they targeted the heads of the invaders, firing with precision. One by one, the enemy fell, their numbers seemingly endless.
