Story 33: Last Stand in the Wasteland

The sun hung low in the sky, casting an eerie golden glow over the desolate wasteland. Sarah stood alone in the center of an abandoned highway, her back to the setting sun. Her muscles tensed, and her eyes narrowed as she gripped her twin machetes, ready for the fight of her life.

The horde was approaching, a mass of decaying flesh and hollow eyes, their groans filling the air like a sinister symphony. Sarah knew she had to hold her ground. Behind her, the small group of survivors she had been protecting—Jim, Emily, and Captain Lee—were counting on her to clear the way.

"Come on, you bastards," Sarah muttered under her breath, her voice a low growl. She took a deep breath, the scent of blood and decay filling her nostrils, and charged forward.
