Story 510: Shadows of Survival

The golden glow of the descending sun cast long shadows through the decimated streets of the ghost town. The dusty air carried the stench of rot, a stark reminder of the undead plague that now ruled this world. ZETU’s mission was clear: evacuate a cluster of survivors trapped in a crumbling building while holding back the relentless horde.

Captain Marcus Kane’s voice crackled over the comms. “Eyes up, team. We’ve got limited light, and they’re closing in fast. Brain, give me eyes on that survivor location.”

Ethan "Brain" O’Connor’s drone whirred above, its camera relaying live footage to his tablet. “The survivors are holed up in the structure dead ahead—three adults and one child on the second floor. Entry through the front is impossible; too many hostiles blocking the way.”

Kane clenched his jaw. “We’ll create a diversion. Blaze, light it up. Quick Shot, take the high ground for cover. Shield, Huntress, with me—through the side alley.”
