Story 576: The Rising Shadows

The ZETU team stood outside the evacuated factory, its looming structure now engulfed in unnatural darkness. The survivors were safe, but the team’s unease only grew. Captain Marcus Kane stared at the impenetrable black void that consumed the building.

“They’re not regular zombies,” Marcus said. “This is something… worse.”

Ethan “Brain” O’Connor scanned his tablet nervously. “There’s no electromagnetic interference, no power anomaly. It’s like the darkness is… alive. It’s feeding on light.”

Before the captain could respond, Riley “Quick Shot” Bennett called out from her vantage point. “We’ve got movement. South perimeter.”

Emerging from the shadows was a procession of figures. These weren’t the mindless, shambling zombies they were used to. These creatures moved with precision, their glowing eyes fixed on the team. The air grew thick, suffocating, as if the darkness itself was crawling toward them.
