Story 1209: Underneath the Rain

EXT. RED SECTOR RUINS – NIGHT – POURING RAIN

Water slammed down like nails on rusted rooftops. Lena’s eyes blinked open, her face slick with blood and rain. The Harbingers were gone. So was the pod.

She rolled over with a groan, her bindings cut—someone had freed her.

DR. RHO (weakly):

“They took her…”

He lay slumped beside a broken wall, barely breathing. Lena pulled him under partial cover and tried to shake clarity into his eyes.

LENA:

“Mouse… she turned on us.”

DR. RHO (rasping):

“Or she never turned… because she was never with us.”

Thunder rumbled. Then—gunfire.

Lena grabbed a shard of pipe and helped Rho limp toward the sound, deeper into the skeletal streets of Red Sector.

EXT. SUBWAY ENTRANCE – MOMENTS LATER

Through the downpour, flickering light leaked from a half-collapsed subway entrance. Screams echoed. The infected were on the move.
