Even if Ren Ying had intruded into their territory intentionally, the thought of harming them never crossed his mind at all, as there was no reason to it
His main goal for passing by here was actually for the opportunity ahead, so he had to encounter them since this was the only way across.
It was normal for them to act aggressively toward the intruders to protect their home from being destroyed. Ren Ying completely understood the reasons behind their action.
Talking about action, he would behave the same way if someone were to invade his personal space, so he held no grudges at all against this pack of bats.
Ren Ying wouldn't pursue them if they were to suddenly flee away from the battlefield in the middle of the fight. If they wanted to keep on going, then he wouldn't back down, as he had no choice.
According to him, he didn't want to engage with this bats at all because it was meaningless to Ren Ying. This beast's value was worthless to him; killing them would only waste his time and energies.
As his thoughts went wild, his hands didn't stop for a moment.
He struck out at the shocked Thunder Bats and hit them easily, thanks to them for not flying away after witnessing an unbelievable scene.
This strike alone dropped close to all the Thunder Bats left from all his previous confrontation with them.
The few last standing Thunder Bats flew away hurriedly with fear in their eyes as they emitted high-pitched rapid clicks, warning other normal bats to run away from this dangerous human.
When the sound reached the normal bats, they turned around without hesitation, flapping their wings and using all their force to catch up with the Thunder Bats.
Ren Ying cast his glance on the fleeing bats; he clicked his tongue, "Why are you guys running away so fast? Am I a demon or something?"
Then he gazed downward to check his doing on the ground.
The empty cold ground now was full of bat corpses lying on top of each other, forming a mountain of corpses, reaching a considerable height, while the cold ground was turned a bit warmly as blood flowed out from it, staining the ground dark-red.
"Will this ground ever return to its original color again?" Ren Ying muttered in a low tone as he took out a towel to wipe his sword clean.
He thought that every action and choice would leave behind consequences and suffering for everybody, not just yourself.
It goes the same way for fortune and happiness.
A lucky person would never suffer, no matter what.
'How unfair the world is...' Ren Ying wondered if he was one of those lucky people or not, when all his opportunities were obtained by snatching them from others.
Soon, he shook his head back to reality and went on his way without looking back.
"I hope nothing unexpected will happen on my first journey outside." He mumbled randomly as he ventured deeper with a torch in his hand.
...
After an unknown amount of time, he had finally arrived in front of an extraordinary-looking wall with some barely visible array engraved on it.
"So, this is the place." Ren Ying said excitedly as he placed both of his hands on wall.
He adjusted his hand according to the vision he saw by using his innate pupil ability: "My left hand should be on here, while my right hand should be on there." Ren Ying recited slowly.
Click!
When the sound appeared, he removed his hand from the wall as he leaped backward and took out his sword from his space ring.
He held it in his hand while watching the wall slowly open up, revealing a secret passage behind it.
Both sides of the passage were equipped with torches that lightened up the whole path, allowing Ren Ying to get a clearer view of it.
Unlike the cave, the hidden path was paved with high-quality stones. Its floor was made using a mix of dark white and dark gray stones, while the walls were built with slightly dark stones, giving off a vibe of ancient time.
"This should have been built a long time ago..." Ren Ying evaluated it after seeing it with his own eyes.
'But how come the torch still looks new?' He asked himself confusingly.
He thought about the possibility of it being made out of extraordinary materials since everything was possible in this cultivation world.
But how could he be so sure without having much knowledge about this world?
Seeing that he couldn't come up with an answer, he sighed loudly as he made his way inside.
Once he fully stepped into the passage, the chilly cold wind that constantly haunted him during this journey had gotten weaker, replaced by a comforting warmth emitting out by the light torches.
Click!
The sound popped up as the wall behind him closed, slowly returning back to its hidden state, looking like any other wall in the cave.
It didn't surprise Ren Ying, as he was aware of it occurring after one fully entered into it. Ren Ying moved forward while enjoying the comfortable temperature, half as good as it was outside, gratefully without any complaints.
He had a relaxing expression on his face, yet his hand was gripping the two-star sword firmly without letting it go loosely while his eyes darted around, scanning for potential traps.
He didn't want unexpected things to happen again, just like his battle with the Thunder Bats.
From just this one journey, he found out that his innate pupil wasn't invincible. It had plenty of loopholes that could endanger him later on if he stayed unaware of it, like seeing into a small part of an always changing future when he takes a peek at their opportunities encounter.
'The loophole is nothing compared to its use.' He weighted the pros and cons of it silently as he resumed his movement.
...
After going forward for a while, he eventually halted his step, facing a vast, shadowy room. There was a stone platform in the middle of it; on the 4 corners of the platform stood torches, like a shield that repelled away the darkness, keeping the platform lit.
Once in a while, lightning would strike from the ceiling; its sound echoed throughout the room, taking away its quietness, while the blue light appeared for a brief instant, making it look magically majestic.
Ren Ying wanted to inspect the entire room, but due to the influence of darkness, he could only helplessly check the visible part of it.
While his eyes were moving around the room, an uneasy feeling aroused inside him.
But Ren Ying just brushed it off with the mindset of danger and opportunity come in one pair; beside, the uneasy feeling wasn't that heavy.
He navigated his way to the platform with the help of the torch steadily.
Midway there, he thought of Liang Chen.
Ren Ying didn't get rid of Liang Chen, just because of jealousy or enviousness.
It was due to the fact that this opportunity was immoveable from one place to another, nor was it possible to hide, at least for the current him.
He wanted to maximize his gains, and that required him to gatekeep this place for just himself without letting the world know about its existence.
If it was a normal treasure that he could just take away without alerting its rightful owner, Ren Ying would definitely not go out of his way to get his hand bloody by ambushing Liang Chen like that.
His eyes regained their focus as he reached the stone platform.
In the middle of it, he saw a single book lying down, illuminated by the torches surrounded it.
Ren Ying picked it up and read the name on the book cover, "Lightning Embrace!"
"Along with this body-tempering technique and the lightning array inside this room, my strength would enter a growth period." He said excitedly with a trembling voice.
In the vision he saw from Liang Chen's memory, it ended when that unlucky guy got his hand on the book. As for the existence of lightning arrays? Ren Ying predicted it.
He didn't know how to actually control it, Ren Ying planned to figure it out while learning the body-tempering technique.
He had a guess about how to make use of it, but first he needed to learn what in the book first.
Having it decided, Ren Ying sat down on the stone platform while he flipped open the first page of the book.
"Heh, so this is what a cultivation technique looks like." He admired the book with his eyes wide open.
Making a new technique out of nothing was not achievable by everybody, especially a two-star technique like this Lightning Embrace. He knew that because he was forced to create his own technique right after coming to this world.
As he was fully concentrated on studying the book, a loud, thunderous squeak resounded everywhere inside the room from the top of his head, causing a pain in his ear.
Ren Ying looked up in horror, with blood dripping down from both sides of his ears.
