Hirvan's mind raced as the blur of city lights outside the car window passed like a disorienting stream. His breath quickened, shallow and erratic, as the gravity of the situation began to crash down on him. Panic grew in his chaotic mind. He glanced over at Lu Hanbing, whose face remained disturbingly calm. But beneath that stoic facade, the sharp tension in his jaw and the cold gleam in his eyes spoke of the storm churning inside him.
Hirvan's thoughts raced.
'Come on, think,'
he urged himself, his heart hammering against his chest. 'I need to find a way out of this.'
But the reality weighed heavily on him. 'I can't just run. Even if I somehow manage to escape, Lu Hanbing knows everything about me. He'd hunt me down before I even got the chance.'
The hopelessness of it all dawned on him, but he forced himself to remain composed, drawing in shallow breaths.
