Xavier had promised her that he would get a transplant, and now that it was impossible, how could he possibly tell her that?

As he saw her innocent, happy smile, he felt a lump forming slowly in his throat. He turned back immediately, heading to his car. Alessia was quick to hold onto his hand. Even though he had a leather glove on, he couldn't help but imagine how her warm hand would comfort him. He wanted to crash into her embrace and... let it all out.

The thought of looking so weak and helpless in front of her made him more infuriated than the doctor's words.

"Did you forget something in your car?" she asked.

"I have to be somewhere else," he said without looking back at her.

"Can I tag along? I'm bored," she said avidly.

"No, you can't tag along," he responded curtly.

He turned around and cupped her cheek in his palm.
