It would be a lie to say that Jiang Fan didn't have desires, but they were relatively subdued. With so many things on his mind, there was less room for such thoughts. Tang Wan raised her head and lightly hit Jiang Fan's arm before turning over and throwing it aside.
This somewhat annoyed Jiang Fan. Propping himself up on one elbow, he tapped Tang Wan's shoulder and whispered, "You're acting like a john who doesn't recognize his client after getting his money's worth."
Tang Wan shook her shoulders irritably and glared at her phone, complaining, "You call me heavy-headed just for resting my head on your arm? You didn't complain about being in danger when you went to negotiate with Tu Xiao for Su Qing. Don't say anything else. I get it! So love fades away, right?"
"No, we don't even have love yet! When did we start loving each other?" Jiang Fan immediately realized he had spoken out of turn. Tang Wan tossed aside her phone, turned towards Jiang Fan, wrapped her arms around his neck, straddled him, and gritted her teeth, whispering fiercely, "I'll strangle you! Can't you just give in to me verbally? Every time we argue, you have to push back. What? Do you feel proud when you win an argument?"
Just then, Li Jinhe's voice came from outside the door. "Jiang Fan, I forgot to bring you pillows. I'm coming in!"
Hearing the sound of the doorknob turning, Jiang Fan widened his eyes and gestured for Tang Wan to get off. Frustrated, Tang Wan sat down hard on Jiang Fan's stomach before relenting. The injury on his back sent a sharp pain through him, causing him to utter a pained groan.
However, the sound of the doorknob stopped, and Li Jinhe left without entering. Jiang Fan looked at Tang Wan lying beside him, who was now staring back. Tang Wan pulled the blanket over her head, and Jiang Fan couldn't help but laugh.
"Make you laugh, make you laugh, it's all your fault!" Tang Wan punched Jiang Fan through the blankets with her small fists, but he barely felt it, still unable to stop laughing. "Tang... Tang Wan, do you think Mom might misunderstand us? Hahahaha."
Tang Wan's face, hidden under the blanket, was flushed with embarrassment. Sheltered by Li Jinhe and Tang Shu, she was relatively inexperienced in matters of love. But even if she was late to understand, she should have grasped it by now.
Her playful antics with Jiang Fan were fueled by trust and a lack of inhibitions, never considering the consequences. Who would have thought their mother would overhear? It was all Jiang Fan's fault for that groan. The blanket was too hot, so she cautiously peeked out, only to find Jiang Fan still looking at her. Deciding that if they were already misunderstood, there was no point in hiding anymore, she threw herself at Jiang Fan again, blushing and angry.
"I didn't hit you! Why did you groan like that?"
"I have an injury on my back, don't you remember?" Jiang Fan reminded her.
Reminded of this, Tang Wan stopped her antics and let Jiang Fan turn over. Lifting up his pajama top, she saw that the wound on his back had healed but left a noticeable scar. Impulsively, she blew on it gently, but this innocent act unsettled Jiang Fan, and he pulled the blanket over them.
"Sleep!" he ordered.
This time, it was Tang Wan's turn to tap Jiang Fan's shoulder.
"Let's play some more."
Jiang Fan ignored her. Within ten minutes, he fell asleep. Tang Wan sat up, placing a finger under Jiang Fan's nose to check if he was still breathing. Suddenly, Jiang Fan spoke up.
"I'm not dead!"
Startled, Tang Wan slapped Jiang Fan's shoulder and whispered, "You don't make a sound when you sleep. I was afraid you'd suddenly die."
"Sleep!" Jiang Fan repeated firmly.
"Let's play some more," Tang Wan persisted.
But Jiang Fan was genuinely asleep. Tang Wan could talk all night if given the chance, but as Jiang Fan slept, she lay awake, staring at the ceiling.
Why couldn't she sleep tonight?
"Jiang Fan, don't sleep."
Jiang Fan slept lightly and woke up at the slightest sound, let alone someone talking beside him. He let out a nasal hum, but his mind was still asleep. Upon hearing Jiang Fan's response, Tang Wan gazed at the ceiling and continued, "Jiang Fan, do you like me, like me, or like me?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Do you like me?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Don't you like me?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Jiang Fan!"
"What are you doing? Are you going to sleep or not?" Jiang Fan sat up abruptly, glaring at Tang Wan. He had been dreaming of winning the lottery and was already counting the zeros, but Tang Wan woke him up. Tang Wan raised her hands, and Jiang Fan frowned.
"Get lost, I'm not hugging you."
"Pfft, I'm surrendering, sister."
"I'm not hugging you even if you surrender."
Jiang Fan lay back down and fell asleep again within seconds. This guy's sleep quality was remarkable – he could fall asleep instantly but also wake up easily. If he slept during the day, he would often be half-asleep.
However, Tang Wan was up to her tricks again.
During Tang Wan's last attempt at conversation, Jiang Fan reached out and covered her mouth.
"Talk again, and I'll wrap you up in a blanket and throw you into the living room."
He glanced at his phone and saw that it was already two in the morning.
Unsurprisingly, Jiang Fan woke up late the next day. He had been physically and mentally exhausted lately. Rubbing his eyes as he walked out of the room, he saw Tang Wan sitting at the breakfast table and glanced back at the bed. How come this woman woke up so early today?
Li Jinhe had prepared breakfast and called Jiang Fan over to eat. As he sat down, Jiang Fan was still groggy. Li Jinhe served him a bowl of porridge and chuckled softly.
"You're going to be late, aren't you? Why don't you take a rest day?"
Jiang Fan nodded groggily, then shook his head. Meanwhile, Tang Wan, munching on a bun, mumbled indistinctly, "He's late four out of five workdays and leaves early three days. Jiang the General of Rongyao – being late is no big deal. He's the golden boy."
Li Jinhe adored her son-in-law and doted on him. The ever-warm and doting Lao Tang tapped Tang Wan's forehead with his chopsticks, frowning.
"What are you jealous of? If you had let Jiang Fan join Changxiang earlier, Rongyao wouldn't have had to hold its head high today. Go to work after breakfast before the Lins sideline you and you realize too late?"
Tang Wan didn't take the chopstick tap seriously. Her forehead was hard, and she shoved a bun into her mouth, mumbling as she chewed. Jiang Fan helplessly handed her a glass of water. After drinking, Tang Wan sighed in relief.
"Jiang Fan also told me to hurry up and solidify my position in the company. He said it would be embarrassing if, after being Vice President for over three, almost four years, I lose my position to the suddenly returned President. I want to work hard, but I don't know what to do. Lao Tang, Jiang Fan, teach me, please."
Jiang Fan slurped his porridge noisily and mumbled, "Just do your regular job and pay extra attention to the things that go through your hands. Don't let others lead you around by the nose, even if they're right."
Tang Wan nodded earnestly and turned her gaze to Lao Tang. Lao Tang pursed his lips.
"With Jiang Fan around, I won't meddle. If you can't do well, you might as well divorce and let Jiang Fan take over Changxiang."
