Chapter 143 - Efforts to Rebuild Trust.

Blaze threw himself into taking care of Savannah with single mind determination, but deep down, he was filled with doubt. He kept thinking about what Rodriguez had said, the accusations and the cruel hint about his past. He was scared that Savannah might start questioning everything and see him as the ruthless guy he used to be.

One evening, as Savannah sat by the window in their bedroom, the sunset lighting up her face, Blaze went over to her hesitantly. "Savannah," he started, his voice unsure.

She looked up, her expression gentle but curious. "What's is it?"

He sat across from her, his hands clasped tightly together. "I need to tell you everything," he said, the words heavy with determination. "No more secrets, no more half-truths. You deserve to know the man you married, the man I used to be."

Savannah reached out and covered his hands with hers. "Blaze, you've already told me enough."

"No," he said firmly, shaking his head. "You need to hear it all. I don't want you doubting me—or us—because of what Rodriguez said."

For the next hour, Blaze opened up about his past. He told her about the cutthroat business deals, the relationships he'd taken advantage of, and the extremes he went to get ahead. He admitted his mistakes with Veronica, felt guilty about possibly contributing to her downfall, and feared he could never fully leave his dark past behind.

When he was done, he couldn't bring himself to look at Savannah. He just stared at the floor, waiting for her judgment, expecting the rejection that seemed inevitable.

"Blaze," Savannah whispered, looking up at him. She placed her hands gently on his face. "You're not that man anymore. Sure, you made some mistakes and hurt people—but the guy in front of me? He's the one who fought to save me. The one who loves me so much he'd risk everything to keep me safe."

Her words felt like a warm hug, easing the pain he'd been carrying for years. "Savannah, I—"

She shook her head to stop him. "I trust you, Blaze. I trust our love. I trust everything about us because I know who you are now. And I love that guy with all my heart."

Tears welled up in Blaze's eyes as she leaned in, her lips lightly touching his. The kiss was soft, full of a promise that nothing from the past could break.

When they pulled away, Savannah pressed her forehead against his, a little smile on her lips. "We'll get through this," she said. "Together."

Blaze nodded, feeling lighter than he had in years. "Together," he repeated, his voice filled with determination. No matter what lay ahead, he would do whatever it took to protect her, to keep their love strong.

As the sun dipped down, filling the room with a warm, golden light, the two of them sat close, their love stronger than ever. No matter what challenges lay ahead, they knew they'd face them side by side.

"I did it all to protect what matters most to me. And that's you, Savannah. Since you came into my life, everything changed."

Savannah felt her heart break hearing the raw pain in his voice. She reached out, cupping his face with her free hand. "Blaze, you've always been good enough for me. For us. You're not that guy anymore."

Blaze shook his head, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "But what if I am? What if a part of me can still do those things? Savannah, I can't lose you. Not after all we've been through."

"You won't lose me," Savannah said firmly, her voice steady. "I trust you, Blaze. I trust the man you are now—the one who loves me and would do anything to keep me safe. Your past doesn't define you."

Her words felt like a healing touch, soothing the wounds he didn't know were still there. He leaned forward, his forehead resting against hers. "I don't deserve you," he whispered.

"You deserve love," Savannah replied, her lips brushing his. "You deserve happiness. And I'm not going anywhere."

He couldn't tell her the whole truth; it would put everything at risk. But he had share a version of it—a version that would keep her safe from the darker parts of his past.
