Exhausting Day

After completing my shift at the bakery, I went back to home and got ready for the university. Ava was still asleep. I had to wake her up too. I quickly made the pancakes for breakfast till Ava got freshened up and ready. We had our breakfast together with Ava and I told her that I had to go to the bakery after University today and I will be late. I instructed her that we had leftovers in the fridge and she could heat it up and have that for dinner. "Okay Mother" She was being sarcastic. Rest of our breakfast, Ava kept bickering about the latest celebrity gossip. I didn't want to hear it but Ava was not shutting up and I had to hear about it all. This lady was having the breakfast at her own leisure when we were getting late for the university. We both has classes at 10 and it was already 9:30. We had to be or else we will miss class. I had to drag the queen and she sensing the urgency of the moment, quietly got up.

"You are no fun, Sophie." She was scolding me like I was the one being childish and getting both of us late.

"Tell me that during the exams." I smirked at her. It definitely made her pissed and scold me even more to tell me, How I was like an old day who doesn't know to be fun? If fun means gossiping during the breakfast about the people and getting late for your classes, I will surely pass.

Today I will take my car as I had to go to the bakery after. Ava will take the bus. She had nowhere to go today and will be staying home. We got into the car and drove off. Thankfully, Ava was silent during the car ride and I was able to drive without getting distracted. We reached the campus on time and I quickly parked our car and we got off. I again remembered ava to take care of herself and have food. We hugged each other and said our goodbyes.

I only had two classes today. I have an assignment to submit. I had been working on it tirelessly these past days. I hope it will turn out fine. After finishing all my work, I left. I got into my Car and drove off. I was hoping to get to the bakery as soon as possible. We would have so much work to finish. Mrs. Jenkins had told us that we had to make all our batches of special cookies and our pastries. The client had booked late and we had to do all this today. Mrs. Jenkins doesn't usually take orders this late but the client had promised to compensate us well for our work. We were much happy to oblige even if we have to work our asses off. I reached the bakery in record time. I entered from the back door and after rinsing off, quickly put on my apron and my hair mask. The place was bustling with everyone working. Mrs. Jenkins had hired extra help for today as the order was big. It were her daughters, Laura and Max. They used to work in bakery to help their mother. When she hired us, they stopped coming here doing their own things. Laura was a teacher and Max worked as a hairdresser. When I approached, Laura saw me, "Sophie, How are you?" Everyone looked at me. I gave an awkward wave.

"I am fine, Laura. How are you doing?", Laura was in her late 20s and looked a younger version of Mrs. Jenkins. Max couldn't be more different than them with a pixie Bob and all gothic style.

"I am doing great. Come on, we need your help. Max,I and Stella are arguing about how to decorate the cookies." Laura dragged me with her and stopped at a pissed looking Max and a tired Stella. Max and I said our hellos and the sisters started arguing about cookie designs. Stella mouthed 'HELP ME' to me. " Laura, nobody wants stupid ice creams decorated on their cookies." Max made a sour face at Laura.

"Oh please Max. Don't be ridiculous and tell me that people would want freaking swords drawn on their cookies. Ice creams are safe and easy to make." Laura was not backing down. They kept bickering back and forth. Stella looked helplessly at me. They were not going to come to an agreement soon and we didn't have time to wait. If only Mrs. Jenkins would be here but she was not. She had to go and buy new stock for the bakery. So the last bet was me. I had to do something to stop their argument so we can all start working. " Well, Why don't we draw ice creams on one half and the swords on the other. What do you think, guys?" They looked at each other and both gave a nod. Stella looked relieved. We began working on the cookies. We divided the work, Stella and Laura were going to make the cookies. While me and Max would make the pastries. We began to work. Even after dividing the work, we still had to do a lot of work. The client had requested that we make as many different flavours as possible. We had decided to make our five best selling flavours of both cookies and pastries. Since Max and I had to make the pastries, I told her to make the two flavours which were easy to make and I had to make the other three flavours. This way we can do it fast. We got immersed in work and didn't stop till we were done. I had made all my three flavours and now they needed to be decorated. I decided to do nothing care and did the simple but elegant designs on them. After decorating them, I took a moment to admire my work. They looked fine. "Sophie, they are soo good." I heard Max exclaiming at my pastries. I turned to look how her pastries had turned out and was shocked to find what max had done to the pastries, She had to make chocolate flavoured and butterscotch. She had made them fine but her decorations my god, they looked like they had been pulled out of a horror movie. She had spread red jam on the pastries that it looked like blood was dripping on it. And on the yellow butterscotch ones, she had drawn freaking little creepy ghosts. "Max, its not for Halloween." I remarked dryly.

"Well, I know but don't you guys think we should always try something new?" She said with a shine in her eyes. I knew there was no point arguing with her. And she was right about trying new things. I have to go with that and hope that the client has a thing for horror movies and Max's sense of humour.

I looked over to see what Stella and Laura were doing. They also had finished making cookies and were busy in decorating them.

I hoped that they would try anything new like Max. I was tired and thirsty. I grabbed the water bottle to quench my thirst. I checked the time as I was gulping down water and nearly choked, it was already 7 pm. I had been here since 12am. I gave Ava a call to see if she had dinner. After two rings she picked up, "Hi Ava"

"Sophie, when are you coming back? It's already 7" Ava being Ava got straight to the point.

"I have almost finished. I just called to check if you had dinner."

"Yes Mother, I had my dinner. I am surprised you didn't hire a babysitter." Ava was mimicking the voice of a little child.

"I trust you so be a good kid and go to sleep early." I ordered her and hung up. I was still laughing thinking about Ava, when Mrs. Jenkins came.

"Girls, Is everything done? We have to deliver it soon." She came to inspect our work. She exclaimed but didn't comment on Max work. She knew it was too late to change anything. She gave a sigh of relief after seeing that all was done and then turned to me,

" Sophie dear, you would have to go for delivery. The client has sent his car. You just have to make sure that it reaches safely there. I hope you don't mind." My god, I was so tired but Mrs. Jenkins looked anxious for this to go smoothly. I knew she was sending me to make sure everything goes well.

"No problem, Mrs. Jenkins", She looked relieved. It was a long day for all of us, she just wanted to get it done with smoothly.

We packed the items and brought them out to put it in the car. We all were astonished to see Mrs. Jenkins pointing towards a luxury car parked outside. This person must be really rich to send this expensive car for cookie pick-up.

The driver got out and helped us put it into the car. He opened the car door for me and I entered the car, it was even more luxuriant inside. God, I hope to get it done quick.
