Crashed

Chapter 02: Crashed

L O W A N

The City of Flederia was a united country surrounded by huge walls to protect it from the outside grounds.

There are six monarchs, inside Flederia who decided to join forces to create this humongous man-made barrier from the cruelty of monsters.

By the alliance forged within them. They created a chance for the people of the whole continent for possibility of survival.

It might not be that much, but they did what they can to encouraged people to live within this calamity and praying nonstop for the world to heal from its original state.

Flederia was huge. Inside the walls also have vast fields. Numerous villages and even cities and towns. But despite all of these. Food supplies are not that enough for everyone.

If those monsters out there won't get inside the wall and devour us, our own body will die eventually because of hunger.

I'm not into politics, and I'm also clueless of what's happening inside the courts of these United Kingdoms but still, there are a lot of people still dying of hunger at every corner of the street.

I promised to myself I'm not letting anyone die anymore. But I guess. I can't really control the deaths of everyone.

Three weeks had already passed. I finished my training as a cadet for just one week and because of my ex-soldier experiences, it's never that hard except the using of spears and waist strings.

Mastering spears and balancing was the job of wall guards. Scouts are different since they are equipped with special swords that can cut through monsters like potatoes.

Based on their rules. I still need to serve as a wall guard for at least six months at most before I'll be given a chance to choose wether to remain as a wall guard or become a Scout to travel the outside of the walls for much more means of serving the kingdom.

The sun was about to rise when I'm getting transported atop the rear side of the wall by a pulley.

A special gear was attached to my waist which the cord would be set on just in case we engage in any battle while we are on the wall.

"Oh great, you're up early as last time." Makoto. A great mentor of mine was waving as soon as he spotted me from the pulley where I step out.

He's sitting by the edge of the wall with drinks on either side and in hand. He offered me one but I politely refused.

"Senior Makoto. You're trying to get drunk again before your shift's off." I said but he just laughed.

"It's no big deal, Lowan. You are here now, aren't you? I can finally pass the duty for you with ease." he yawned as he gazed at the rising sun behind the mountains. "last night was too boring. There's no monsters anywhere, what's the point of guarding this wall anyway?"

I heaved a sigh as I sat beside him. "Don't get too comfortable."

He glanced at me with sleepy eyes, "You still didn't told me how you encountered those monsters out there before a scout found you. Honestly speaking, you're not the type with an incredible skills of survival but, I guess you're not half bad since you finished the training in the shortest time possible. No one can do that in the past years. None!"

"You're already drunk."

"I am, am I?" Then he laughed as he tried to stand up so I immediately supported him from getting off-balanced.

"Careful, Senior Makoto."

He smiled at me, tapping my shoulder, "I'll leave you here now, lad. Be careful not to fall without the cords, alright?" Then he laughed heartily once again as he walked towards the pulley.

His steps are in zigzag but he's sober enough not to fall.

Senior Makoto was a wall guard for almost three years, as he told me few days ago. Those days were chaotic compared now.

Every night, countless of monsters would try destroying the wall. Crawl up just to reach the top and even there are times when some really got inside Flederia and killed so many innocent lives. Along with his family.

He's seven years older than me. One of the rules of being a wall guard was to stay sober especially in your time of duty but for Senior Makoto's state, I don't have the urge to stop him.

Also.

He's not alive now without serious skills within him, right? He went through hell for many years while staying alive so I think, he's my senior for a reason. And I don't want to disregard his experiences.

Now that I'm alone in this wall. I can finally watch the world in the highest point possible once again. Aside from guarding, this is also one of the things I've been looking forward to.

But then all of a sudden.

The peaceful view got interrupted when a strange thing came flying towards me from a kilometer away forest.

Looks like something throw a dark figure from the woods and was about to hit me directly so my eyes widened in shock and took out my sword.

But my calculations was wrong when the dark figure crashed on the wall, six meters below from the top where I am standing.

The part of the wall cracked where that figure crashed and I thought it was already dead when it growled and started climbing towards me.

It's a monster!

And it's fast movement never let me think twice when it finally appeared infront me and tried to bite me with it's sharp teeth.

I have to jump back a few meters to avoid its mouth but approached me more as it swings the right arm with its claws to my neck, but my sword's up-swing severed its arm as I sprints forward before rotatingly swings again my sword and severed its neck from the body.

That quick attack took me at just a second and the body of the monster was already vanishing.

But. I thought that was the first and last strange movement these monsters have done. When I looked again at the faraway forest, a continuous dark figures appeared on the air, crashing on the wall near the top where I am.

I need to sound the alarm.

Quick!
