Agnar or The Sovereign?

The next day came and every student dressed in their given uniforms of a black cloak over a white shirt and black trousers for the boys and over a black dress with a bit of white if they pleased, for the girls. With their boots on, they marched to class. Most of them were excited, some of them were neutral to everything. They sat ready for their homeroom class.

The twins were back to their usual blank expressions with Enoe sitting between them. Jarett at Kiyan's side and Lecter at Raten's side.

In front of the class was the teacher. A wizard from the sixth generation. He started the day's lesson.

"Good morning students. I am Professor Chadwick and I will be filling your minds with everything you need to become a wizard." He spoke in a calm deep tone.

He was a man of average height, a sharp facial feature, overturned eyes, pointed nose and thin lips. His hair was laid back with a single curl in front that stopped a little below his left eyebrow.

He wore a long black overcoat with his white shirt and black tie tucked in it. He held a cane he didn't need and wore a hat because he wanted to. A golden emblem with the symbol of the crimson empire was fixed on the overcoat which signified his status as a professor.

Other school staff had silver emblems, while the principal and his vice wore platinum each, the students noticed.

"Starting with 'what is magic?' Blah blah blah, mana... Yada yada yada, boring boring boring. Okay! We're done with that!" Chadwick flipped through pages of the book in his hand and through it on the floor.

"I assume everyone here, to have made it through the entrance exams knows the very basics, so I'm going to skip all that nonsense. They're way too boring anyway. We're going straight to the important and difficult parts." Chadwick said.

"My goal is to make you grow and now, more than ever, the sovereign has put pressure on the academy to stop slacking and provide the best of the best. There's a risen threat in the form of the Pre-generation's founder, Agnar Teferi."

Murmurs rose in the class at the mention of the name.

"Isn't he dead?"

"The myth has risen?"

"Things just got a lot more serious."

"I wasn't supposed to say that." Chadwick muttered to himself as he watched the concerned faces of the students, at least most of them.

"Anyway, this means the sovereign is recruiting more students this time and everyone has a chance to be a ranking member of the Anchor as they prepare for another attack on the Teferi family."

"Uhm, wasn't there a world wide agreement to put a stop to the slaughtering of Teferi? Why do they plan on going after everyone when only Agnar is a problem?" A student asked with her hand raised up.

"That's the same question I asked. But, the Sovereign does what it wants I guess." Chadwick answered.

"The sovereign is right." Another student said, a boy this time. "It's very well known what people from that family can do. They're not normal. In fact, they're barely human. The sovereign is making the right decision here deciding to get rid of them. It's in the best interest of everyone."

"He's right." A girl supported.

"They shouldn't have put a stop to it in the first place. Like they do with the Beastmen, Teferi should be captured and controlled."

"True. Both of them have been nothing but enemies of humanity."

"Yeah. Fourteen years ago, isn't that when Veldon sank completel, because of the clash between Agnar and the emperor?"

"Ordalf is in this current state because of a person from that bloodline as well."

"Not forgetting Faik Teferi. He went against The Sovereign single-handedly and caused a lot of destruction."

"All of you are misinformed fools!" Another student spoke up. "Faik Teferi only went against the sovereign because they are the reason behind the chaos that's befalling the world, in case you're all blind to see that."

"It's true." Another supported. "He only wanted to stop the shed of innocent blood."

"Speaking of being barely human, have you considered killing and enslaving, as well as wrongly punishing of the innocent just because the sovereign wants to remain on their seats as being inhumane?"

"The sovereign is just scared and that's it! That's the reason they keep slaughtering. Man, woman and child alike. If Agnar Teferi is back, then so be it. At least he can put a stop to them."

"What are you saying?! How is Agnar being back a good thing? He is the devil incarnate."

"And you are sitting in the walls built by that same devil's incarnate and also learning the same magic he brought to the world."

"No one discredits the facts that he did some good, but also don't overlook the bad. He divided the world and caused the war of races that killed billions!"

"Didn't he also have a throne made of the bones of those that fell during the war?"

"Mulgard is missing a large part of it's land because he wanted to show his power."

"How do you even know this? Were you born then?!"

"Same goes for you almighty defender!"

The class continued to argue and Chadwick rubbed his nape nervously watching the chaos that was brewing. If he didn't do something sooner, a fight was sure to break out.

"I really shouldn't have brought up that man or the sovereign. I should have just stuck to the boring stuff." He sighed.

The voices of the students reached other classes. The other students and professor's wondered what was going on.

The principal and his vice stood at the door of Chadwick's class shaking their heads slightly.

"This man, every single year." Professor Cumberbatch, the principal sighed. He was a man in his fifties, or at least he looked to be. Most wizards didn't look their age. Beside him was his bald vice, Professor Kingston who looked a bit younger.

"I told you we should have let him go to Newmoon this year," Kingston said.

"And let NewMoon have one of our best? No, thank you."

"This man is a headache to handle."

"A headache who knows what he's doing."

"It's been horrifying handling his rebellious nature since Professor Rose retired. She's the only one who can keep him in check."

"Isn't she equally rebellious? But you're right. Handling him with her is better than him alone. But, she said she needed to rest in her old age or whatever."

"What a shame. If he's the best in this aspect, then she is to be considered the best of the best."

"What a chaotic first day." Jarett thought, sitting in the midst of it. He glanced at the twins who were smiling for some reason.

Kiyan had one elbow on the desk and his head rested on his palm while drawing lines with his finger on the desk.

"Eh, Raten." He called his brother.

"Mhm?"

"I just had a great idea."

"I'm listening." Enoe inched closer.

"I clearly wasn't talking to you." Kiyan slapped his face away.

"I sat between you both for this particular reason and I must hear this idea of yours." Enoe rubbed his cheek as it stung from the slap.

"After this madness." Kiyan looked at the chaos that a single name had caused.

Chadwick regained control of the class when a thunderclap followed by lightning struck in the room.

"Enough." He said and everyone's attention returned to him. "What you think or believe, keep it to yourselves. This is not the time for arguments."

"I'm here to teach you about magic and there will be a time where all that will be entertained, not today."

"We'll begin with the key to producing powerful spells - Ahav jelarese - Mana focus."
