Nia felt helpless in the dimly lit room. Though food was served to her, she had no appetite. Every bite tasted like dread. Her mind raced, searching for a way out, a plan—anything. But she had nothing to work with. She was trapped, waiting, hoping for an opening, for someone to make a mistake.
As if the universe had answered her unspoken prayers, the door creaked open. The same man from earlier strolled in, a sickeningly cheerful grin plastered on his face. His dark eyes gleamed with malice.
"I bring good news," he announced, his voice dripping with amusement. "Your beloved has landed in Sicily."
Nia's heart thudded painfully. Zack was here? He found her? He had come for her?
The man chuckled, clearly enjoying the flicker of hope in her eyes. "Oh, he loves you very much. His efforts were not in vain."
