Chapter 2 - A Close Call

Chapter 2 - A Close Call

Beijing City - Morning

Dong Xuebing's heart raced as he casually strolled towards the restroom, his mind processing the near-death experience with unnerving calm. His ability had once again saved his life, allowing him to rewind time and evade the bullet meant to end him. But now, he had to confront the source of this threat.

Just 30 Seconds Later…

Perched in his hidden position across from the café, the sniper was growing increasingly anxious. His shot had been perfect—or so he thought. Yet, Dong Xuebing had evaded it with impossible speed. The sniper's fingers twitched on the rifle, his eyes scanning the area through the scope, desperate to regain sight of his target. He cursed under his breath, beads of sweat forming on his brow.

The silence in the room was suffocating. Then, cutting through the tension like a knife, a voice echoed behind him.

"What do you think you're doing?"

The sniper's blood ran cold. He spun around, his eyes wide with shock, terror etched into his features. Dong Xuebing stood there, the very man he had just tried to kill, alive and well, his eyes cold and unyielding.

The sniper's survival instincts kicked in, and he reached for the pistol holstered at his side. With trembling hands, he aimed directly at Dong Xuebing's chest and pulled the trigger. The sharp crack of the gunshot rang out, but Dong Xuebing moved with inhuman reflexes, sidestepping the bullet as if he had seen it coming a mile away.

"Is that all you've got?" Dong Xuebing's voice was laced with disdain, his expression one of bored indifference.

The sniper, now fully panicking, didn't have time to process what was happening. Before he could react, Dong Xuebing closed the distance between them with frightening speed. His fist slammed into the sniper's jaw with a sickening crunch, the force of the blow sending teeth flying and blood spraying across the room. The sniper's vision blurred as pain exploded in his face, and he crumpled to the ground, barely conscious.

Dong Xuebing loomed over the crumpled figure, his presence intimidating and filled with cold fury. He crouched down, grabbing the sniper by the front of his shirt, and yanked him up so that their faces were inches apart.

"Who sent you?" Dong Xuebing's voice was low, dangerous, each word dripping with menace.

The sniper's eyes darted around the room, searching for an escape, but there was none. Despite the agony coursing through his body, he clamped his mouth shut, his lips stained with blood. Fear was evident in his eyes, but loyalty—or perhaps fear of something greater—kept him silent.

Dong Xuebing's patience was wearing thin. He dragged the sniper across the room, his grip unyielding, until they reached the large window overlooking the city. With a single, powerful motion, Dong Xuebing heaved the sniper up and dangled him over the edge of the tall hotel, his feet flailing helplessly in the air. The wind howled around them, the city far below seeming like a distant, indifferent witness to the unfolding drama.

The sniper's bravado crumbled instantly. His hands clawed at Dong Xuebing's arm, desperation taking over as he realized the very real possibility of being dropped to his death.

"Okay! Okay, I'll tell you!" the sniper cried out, his voice cracking with terror. "Just don't drop me!"

Dong Xuebing narrowed his eyes, maintaining his grip but giving no indication of relenting.

"Talk," he commanded, his tone leaving no room for negotiation.

The sniper gulped, his eyes wide with fear. "It was Xiao Zhān! He hired me through Brother Hong! I don't know the details, I swear! I was just following orders!"

Dong Xuebing stared at him for a long moment, weighing the truth in the sniper's panicked confession. Finally, with a disgusted snarl, he pulled the sniper back from the brink and threw him onto the floor, where he lay gasping for breath, too terrified to move.

Dong Xuebing didn't spare him another glance. He turned and walked away, his mind already processing this new information. Xiao Zhān and Brother Hong had crossed a line, and now, it was time to show them what happened when you underestimated Dong Xuebing.

As he left the room, the sniper lay trembling, his heart pounding in his chest. He had survived the encounter, but the memory of Dong Xuebing's cold eyes would haunt him forever.

Next Time: The Mastermind Revealed?

Dong Xuebing's relentless pursuit of the truth brings him closer to uncovering who orchestrated the assassination attempt. But in the world of power and wealth, nothing is ever as simple as it seems. The stakes are high, and the danger is far from over…
