Chapter 22: Logan rubs Kylie’s nose in it

Kylie’s POV.

I was almost ready to tell Logan everything, to finally reveal my past. The mark on his neck had stopped me in my tracks—the shock of seeing it had stolen my words, leaving me speechless. As I gathered the courage to speak again, Logan suddenly looked up.

“The grilled fish! It must be ready by now,” he said, cutting through my shock with his abrupt exclamation. He stood up and hurried out of the room, leaving me alone with my swirling thoughts.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. The heaviness that had settled over me when Graham left was lifting, replaced by an inexplicable sense of contentment.

“How is this possible? I never thought I could trust anyone again.” Logan’s presence was slowly changing everything I thought I knew about trust and betrayal. Graham had shattered my ability to trust, but Logan was piecing it back together, bit by bit. Each kind gesture, each moment of care, was mending the broken parts of me.
