Chapter 12 I hope we will never meet again in this life

Sure enough, it was Gu Tianxi. After more than three years since their breakup, they met again. Shen Mofei did not turn her head to look at Gu Tianxi. In fact, she knew he hadn't changed much because he and Song Keying had just had their wedding a few days ago, and it made the news. Gu Tianxi walked over to Song Keying's side, facing Shen Mofei. He greeted her indifferently, "Long time no see."

"Yes, long time no see," Shen Mofei replied with a smile, though her heart felt stifled and uncomfortable. She tried hard to maintain her composure and calm.

"Tianxi, is my face serious? It stings a bit," Song Keying said coquettishly to Gu Tianxi, deliberately showing him her face. Shen Mofei had slapped her hard, leaving definite marks on her face. Seeing Gu Tianxi's complete lack of concern, a flash of discontent quickly crossed Song Keying's eyes. She continued sweetly, "Tianxi, Mofei thinks I caused her father to be discharged. I don't even know where her father was hospitalized!"

"Is Uncle okay? Where is he hospitalized? I'd like to visit him," Gu Tianxi seemingly ignored Song Keying and looked at Shen Mofei, asking politely.

Shen Mofei's heart pounded heavily. She responded coldly, "No need, my father is fine. I have things to do, so I'll leave now." She didn't say goodbye, hoping never to see him again in this lifetime. She grabbed her bag and hurried out of the Qingya Club.

Standing by the roadside, watching the bustling traffic, she couldn't calm her emotions. She and Gu Tianxi had been neighbors since junior high. Back then, Gu Tianxi was not yet the young master of the Gu family. Like her, he was just an ordinary person, living with relatives who were old and ate lightly, often leaving him hungry. As a growing junior high student, he was always hungry. Her father, being kind-hearted and worried that Tianxi wasn't getting enough to eat, often invited him over for meals and made sure to give him extra food. They went to school and came home together. At the dinner table, her father often told Gu Tianxi, "Tianxi, Xiaodi is a girl. Look out for her at school and don't let anyone bully her." He indeed protected her all the way, not letting anyone bully her.

One spring, she and two girls from her class were flying kites on the playground. Many other students from different classes were also flying kites. Her kite got tangled with a boy's kite from another class.

That boy saw her and came over with a smile, saying they were destined and asking her to be his girlfriend. It was only the second year of junior high, and she was startled, immediately declining politely. Unexpectedly, the boy's face turned ugly, and he cursed her, saying she was shameless and should find out who he was. Just then, Gu Tianxi came over holding a basketball and heard the commotion. He threw the basketball at the boy and then rushed over to fight him. Gu Tianxi lost that fight, ending up with a bruised and swollen face. But the other boy didn't come out unscathed either, with several bruises. Finally, the boy cursed him for having guts and left. After that, they never encountered that boy again. Throughout their time together, Gu Tianxi always protected her. From junior high, they were neighbors, friends, and almost like siblings. Gu Tianxi was good-looking and performed well academically, attracting many girls, but he never dated any of them. He always gave the same reason as her for rejecting others: he wanted to focus on his studies.

A month before the college entrance exam, Gu Tianxi suddenly told her he had to go back home but would return for the exam. He urged her to apply for T University no matter what and strive to get in. He reassured her not to put too much pressure on herself, saying that even if she didn't get into T University, he would find her. With today's advanced technology, they could still keep in touch through phone calls, emails, and social media. No matter where she was, he promised he would find her. On the day the exam results were released, he called her immediately to ask if she had met T University's score threshold. She told him she had. What he didn't know was that, afraid she wouldn't make it, she had studied relentlessly, sleeping only three hours a night and dreaming of exam questions. She exceeded T University's cutoff by 30 points. Over the phone, he was ecstatic, praising her. On the first day of university, he waited for her at the gate, and upon seeing her, he ran over excitedly to help with her luggage. He held her hand and said, "Xiaodi, I've liked you for a very long time, since the first time I saw you. I was afraid my feelings weren't strong enough, so I took six years to confirm. I'm sure that I will only like you in this life. Will you be my girlfriend? I want to be with you forever." He seemed afraid of her rejection, holding her hand tightly. His confession was simple and old-fashioned, but she was moved to tears. She squeezed his hand back and said with a smile, "Okay! You have to keep your word, stay with me forever!" She knew his family background was excellent, and she feared she wasn't good enough for him. So, during her four years in university, she studied design diligently, took foreign language courses, learned various etiquettes, and practiced Taekwondo with him. However, the person who once promised never to part had drifted away in no time. Shen Mofei looked up at the sky, holding back her tears. She told herself not to think about it anymore. Whether it was misunderstanding or betrayal, she had to move forward and not be resentful. Life was more important than love. Her father and brother were more important than love. And besides, she was married now. Even thinking about Gu Tianxi's name again would be disrespectful to her new husband.

"Mingze, don't treat me like this." Suddenly, a woman's voice came from behind. For a moment, Mofei thought she was hallucinating. She instinctively turned around. She saw Huo Mingze walking out in a sharp suit, followed by a stylish woman carrying a limited-edition Chanel bag and wearing high heels. The woman suddenly hugged Huo Mingze from behind and said, "Mingze, you've always known my feelings."

Shen Mofei: "?"

What did she just see? A young, beautiful woman hugging her newlywed husband right in front of her? She suddenly felt like her life was a soap opera. What puzzled her was that seeing Gu Tianxi had stirred such intense emotions in her, to the point of losing control. But now, seeing a woman hug her husband, she didn't feel much at all—not angry, not upset, just a bit curious.

"Let go!" Huo Mingze's voice was cold and stern, his aura freezing. Shen Mofei had never seen this side of Huo Mingze. She had only known him for three days, and during that time, he had been gentle, considerate, and always thinking of her.

"I won't let go." The woman's tone was coquettish.

"Get lost!" Huo Mingze growled.

Even though she didn't know Huo Mingze well, Shen Mofei could see that he was angry. She immediately walked over and said, "Mingze, what are you doing here?" She greeted him, leaving it to Huo Mingze to decide whether to introduce her as a friend or his wife.
