Chapter 25 Success

Huo Mingze and Shen Modi went to separate restrooms. After using the restroom, Modi came out and was about to wash her hands. At the sink, there were two women also washing their hands, both wearing luxurious evening gowns. Modi didn't pay much attention since everyone attending the event tonight was dressed formally and elegantly. She found an empty faucet and reached over to wash her hands.

A sarcastic voice sounded from beside her, "Weren't you the one who didn't care about wealth? So why are you desperately trying to fit into the upper class now?"

It was then that Modi realized the woman standing next to her was Song Keying. She ignored her and continued washing her hands.

"Shen Modi, don't think I don't know your intentions. Do you really believe that using others as a stepping stone will get you back in touch with Tianxi? He will never like you again," Song Keying fumed at Shen Modi's calm demeanor. Every time she saw Modi like this, she couldn't control her own rage.

After washing her hands, Modi took a paper towel to dry them, looked at Song Keying indifferently, and said, "Don't project your own filthiness onto others. Rest assured, I won't have any contact with Gu Tianxi in this lifetime. Also, I came to Haicheng first. If you think running into me is intentional, you can always leave. Since we seem to loathe each other, as long as you stay in Haicheng, we will continue to run into each other."

"You! What will it take for you to leave Haicheng?" Song Keying was livid at Modi's casual attitude.

A girl in an evening gown nearby was washing her hands while quietly glancing over at them. Modi gave Song Keying a cold look and said, "I'll live wherever I want. Unless something unexpected happens, I'll spend my life in Haicheng..."

Suddenly, a phone on the small shelf by the sink vibrated, its screen lighting up with a clearly visible text message: "When Shen Modi comes out, let me know so I can act."

Seeing this, Modi narrowed her eyes and reached for the phone. Song Keying panicked and quickly tried to grab it, but Modi was faster and got hold of the phone first. Song Keying, thinking Modi didn't know the password, relaxed a bit and sneered, "Shen Modi, didn't anyone teach you manners? That's my phone! You—"

She suddenly turned pale as Modi unlocked the phone using the password. The password was Gu Tianxi's birthday.

"Shen Modi, you bitch! I knew you hadn't forgotten Tianxi!" Song Keying screamed, losing control upon realizing Modi remembered Gu Tianxi's birthday. She completely forgot that she was the one who should feel guilty and panicked.

Modi, with a stern expression, started scrolling through the text messages. She saw that Song Keying had instructed the person to make sure not to fail like last time and to kill Shen Modi, erasing any future threat. Last time? So that car accident wasn't an accident but orchestrated by Song Keying? She had wondered why someone would drive so fast at a zebra crossing. At the time, she thought the driver had panicked and mistaken the gas pedal for the brake. She never expected it to be an attempted murder targeted at her. Song Keying had really gone to great lengths for someone as ordinary as her.

Seeing Modi reading the messages, Song Keying panicked even more and quickly grabbed the phone back, trying to explain, "I didn't do anything."

Modi glared coldly at Song Keying and said, "Song Keying, I warned you." With that, she turned and left.

Seeing Modi walk away, Song Keying let out a heavy sigh of relief. She even felt a bit of sweat on her back. She then rolled her eyes and tried to comfort herself, thinking, "What is Shen Modi anyway? Why should I be afraid of her? Even if she knows, so what? Does she have any evidence? With her status, who can she tell? Reporting to the police won't help! This is just a spare phone. I'll flush the SIM card down the toilet and toss the phone. Even if she reports it, there's no evidence."

Thinking this, she felt much calmer.

After leaving the restroom, Modi called her best friend Ning Qingyi. There was no answer, so she assumed Qingyi might be busy and would call back later. Back in the day, she, Qingyi, and Song Keying were classmates. She had been very close with Qingyi and also got along well with Song Keying.

But Qingyi and Song Keying had clashing personalities. Qingyi didn't like Song Keying, thinking she had a princess complex. At that time, she even tried to persuade Qingyi, saying that it was normal for someone from a good family background to have a bit of a princess complex. Near graduation, Song Keying turned against her and quickly got together with Gu Tianxi. It was then that she realized Qingyi had better judgment than she did; she had been too blind.

"Are you ready?" Huo Mingze asked from not far away.

Seeing Huo Mingze, Modi lifted her skirt and trotted over. "You've been waiting for me all this time?"

"Yes, don't run, you might twist your ankle." Huo Mingze quickly stepped forward, took her hand, and supported her.

"Okay." Modi smiled at Huo Mingze. The more she experienced various schemes, the more she realized how genuinely good Huo Mingze was to her, with real, tangible efforts.

The two returned to the main banquet hall. Yao Yutong elegantly approached with a glass of red wine. Seeing her, Huo Mingze, holding Modi's hand, prepared to leave.

Yao Yutong was the first to call out to him, "Mingze, won't you introduce us?"

Huo Mingze coldly introduced, "This is my wife, Shen Modi. Momo, this is Yao Yutong, the young lady of the Yao family."

"Hello!" Shen Modi greeted Yao Yutong gracefully.

"Hello." Yao Yutong's smile faltered slightly. Huo Mingze's mention of "the young lady of the Yao family" stung her.

Ignoring Yao Yutong, Huo Mingze was about to lead Modi elsewhere. Yao Yutong quickly interrupted, "Mingze, let me toast to you both. Wishing you happiness!" Wishing you a quick divorce, she thought.

She raised her glass and lightly tapped it against Huo Mingze's. As their glasses clinked, she subtly flicked her finger, causing the pill to drop into Huo Mingze's glass.

Huo Mingze hadn't intended to drink, but hearing Yao Yutong's wish for their happiness, he said, "Thank you, we will be happy," and called to Modi, "Wife."

"Thank you, Miss Yao!" Modi also raised her glass, lightly clinking it with Yao Yutong's, and then drank with Huo Mingze.

Seeing Huo Mingze drink the wine, Yao Yutong felt a surge of excitement, her heartbeat quickening slightly. She continued speaking to Huo Mingze, "Mingze, when do you plan to hold the wedding?"

This was the topic she least wanted to bring up, but now she needed to buy time.

"It will be soon. We will certainly send Miss Yao an invitation," Huo Mingze replied distantly.

Yao Yutong felt like grinding her teeth in frustration. After six years of a sweet relationship, he now called her Miss Yao?

"Hey, Ze, there you are!" Suddenly, an awkward voice sounded. Turning to look, a blond, blue-eyed foreigner in a well-fitted suit approached with a glass of red wine and a big smile.

Yao Yutong's eyes lit up. A foreign businessman. So what if Shen Modi dressed up as a wealthy lady? Could she handle this?
