On the Journey to the West, of the eighty-one trials, a significant number were deliberately arranged by the Immortals and Buddhas.
Most of these were the disciples or the mounts of these higher beings descending to the Lower Realm to fulfill their destinies, and this was true both in the original story and now.
And after these mounts or disciples descended, they would bring some treasures with them.
One reason was to create calamities for the Journey to the West Team; another was for self-preservation.
For example, Gold-Horn and Silver-Horn brought treasures like the Jade Pure Bottle of Mutton-Fat Jade, the Purple Gold Gourd, the Shaking Golden Rope, and so on; the Green Ox Demon came with the Vajra Bracelet; and Ancestor Huangmei had the Human Seed Bag and the Cymbals…
As the mount of Bodhisattva Guanyin turned into a demon after descending to the mortal world, it was natural for the Golden Hair Lion to bring a treasure too, which was not surprising.
