Chapter 31: Can't Find the Restaurant After the Upgrade

At 5:15 AM, Charlotte woke up on time.

Why do I keep waking up at this hour? Could it be my biological clock?

Charlotte shivered at the thought—she didn't want to deal with that. She needed to try to sleep a bit longer.

She lay back down, pulling the soft quilt up to her chin, closing her eyes to gather the remaining drowsiness, hoping for a short nap.

In her groggy state, she kept reminding herself to check the time at 7 AM to open the all-day dining area.

6:15.

A bit more sleep—still early.

6:42.

Just a little longer.

6:55.

Another quick nap—it's not urgent.

7:42.

What?!!! Charlotte jolted awake, her eyes wide with disbelief. She hadn't realized she had slept so long!

Summer rushed to get dressed, brush her teeth, and wash her face, all while hurriedly tying up her hair.

This was a disaster—on the first day of the upgrade, she had overslept. It seemed she definitely needed to hire a staff member.

As she burst out of her room, she discovered another room outside.

What's going on? A suite? Charlotte puzzled as she pushed open the second door and ran into the hallway.

The hallway seemed unusually long today, almost like she hadn't fully woken up.

Finally spotting the stairs, she hurried up to the second floor, only to find that the breakfast area, now changed to Room 103, was missing.

Where's the breakfast area?

The once narrow second-floor hallway had expanded, now featuring two rows of room number signs. Charlotte walked along, counting up to Room 113.

Room 113 was against a wall.

So, the single rooms have moved to the second floor? What about the double rooms? Are they on the third floor?

Noting that the upgrade had introduced two staircases, she followed the right staircase to the third floor, where the room signs read 210.

The staircase stopped at the third floor.

With no other options, Charlotte had to search room by room for the restaurant.

However, she couldn't find it.

Where could the restaurant be?

"System, show me the upgraded floor plan."

The system's floor plan revealed that the Level 3 upgrade had significantly altered the layout.

The third floor now had 10 double rooms, each expanded by 5 square meters.

The second floor featured 13 single rooms, each expanded by 3 square meters, with a massive, clean, and tidy bathroom at the end of the corridor. There was also a large new shower room with individual, soundproof bathrooms.

The first floor's lobby had increased by 50 square meters, with the area previously occupied by single rooms divided into East Hall and West Hall. The East Hall had a restaurant sign on the door, while the West Hall was temporarily sealed off with a notice.

Her private room was now located at the far end of the first floor, marked with a sign reading "Boss's Office."

No wonder she had opened two doors this morning...

Well, finding the restaurant was the priority. She needed to hurry down and open for business.

When Charlotte reached the first floor, she saw all the guests gathered outside the restaurant, clutching their stomachs and looking anxious, eagerly staring at the door.

"Sorry, I overslept today!" Charlotte greeted them with an apologetic nod, easily opening the door. "Please come in, breakfast is ready for you."

"Boss, the place has changed so much overnight," Leo remarked, staring at the row of food displayed on stainless steel trays. He was nearly drooling.

He hadn't expected to experience such a diverse range of breakfasts in one place.

Leo firmly believed that if he lived long enough, he would be able to try every dish!

A tall robot stood at the entrance, holding a tray with a bottle of hand sanitizer, disposable gloves, and shoe covers. A powerful electric current shot out from a round hole in its belly, blocking the way.

The robot's electronic eyes emitted a blue light, scanning the arriving guests. After confirming they were patrons of the hotel, it turned off the electric current and allowed them to pass.

As the guests entered, several speakers in the corners of the room simultaneously broadcasted a sweet female voice: "Welcome to the all-day service restaurant of the resort hotel. We strive to provide a safe and comfortable dining environment."

"Please note the following prohibited behaviors: 1. No food wastage. 2. No fighting or damaging the restaurant's property. 3. No theft of others' points. Violators will be expelled and banned from the hotel."

"To ensure the safety of all guests, no special abilities are allowed. The unified stamina value is 50 and will be restored after leaving the hotel. Please don't worry."

Jeremy frowned, realizing he couldn't use his abilities and his punches were weak.

He looked around and saw that everyone else was in the same situation. Charlotte seemed unaffected and ready for breakfast, so he planned to eat first and see if his abilities returned afterward.

Fawna didn't pay attention to the announcement. She was searching for a tray but couldn't find one anywhere.

Just then, Charlotte approached, tapped a high black machine, and a tray with her name on it emerged.

Charlotte took the tray and went to select the food she wanted.

Fawna, seeing how it worked, hopped over and pressed the blue button on the machine, but the screen prompted her to insert a points card.

After inserting the card, a tray with her name appeared. The screen then displayed: "Return the tray after eating. The cost of the meal will be automatically deducted from your points, and the card will be returned."

"This is so advanced!" Fawna's big eyes sparkled with curiosity as she took her tray and went to the food area.

The food station offered an assortment of breakfast items, including golden millet porridge, eight-treasure porridge, century egg and lean meat porridge, and vegetable porridge. There was also a large bucket of thick yogurt and a jar of white sugar.

Steaming dim sum included soup dumplings, shumai, corn, sweet potatoes, steamed dumplings, and cute little steamed buns.

Bowls of shrimp egg custard, tofu pudding, and small wontons were also available.

The most expensive item was 8 points, and the cheapest was 1 point—remarkably close to pre-apocalypse prices.

Jeremy tried several new dishes and noticed no restrictions on point usage, so he filled his plate generously.

After finding a table and enjoying his meal, Jeremy paid his points and left the restaurant. He waved his arms, feeling as if he had been reinflated. His punches grew stronger, and his abilities returned to normal.

With no discomfort, Jeremy bounced a few times to test his recovery, then slung his backpack over his shoulders and left the hotel.

To ensure a flavorful future, he needed to collect crystal cores. He couldn't afford to let a single zombie escape.
