Side Quest: "Physical Enhancement"
Raise all your physical stats (Strength, Endurance, and Agility) to 15+ before school starts.
Reward:
- Unsealment of Time Dilation ability
- +5 Attribute Points
Failure Penalty:
- Expulsion from the Academy
- -5 Charisma Points
Time Limit: 3 weeks
Simon's eyes widened as he stared at the side quest notification. He felt a wave of overwhelm wash over him. Three weeks to raise his physical stats to 15+? It seemed like an impossible task, especially considering his current stats. Strength: 7, Endurance: 8, Agility: 6. He was nowhere near the required levels.
Simon slumped back against the bed, feeling a sense of despair creeping in. How was he supposed to achieve this? He had no experience with combat or physical training.
The thought of failing and getting expelled from the academy made his stomach twist with anxiety.
Simon tossed the quest notification aside and picked up the "Beginner's Training Guide" book from his nightstand. The cover was worn, and the pages were dog-eared from previous owners.
As he flipped through the pages, he found a section titled "Physical Improvement". It outlined various training methods, including exercises, diets, and rest schedules.
Simon's eyes scanned the pages, searching for a plan that would help him achieve the required physical stats within the tight three-week deadline.
Simon tossed the book aside, feeling a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information. He rubbed his eyes, which felt a bit strained from staring at the pages.
He glanced at the clock on his nightstand and saw that it was already 10:00 AM.
Simon got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. He turned on the shower, letting the warm water wash away the remnants of sleep. As he stood under the stream, he couldn't help but think about the daunting task ahead of him.
As the warm water cascaded down his body, Simon's thoughts returned to the small apartment he had once called home. The shower had been his one luxury, his one comfort in a life marked by hardship and struggle.
Simon's thoughts took a melancholic turn as he remembered the final volume of "The Hero's Odyssey" that he had never gotten to read.
He had been so eager to find out how the story ended, but fate had other plans. He had died before he could finish the series, and now, irony of ironies, he found himself living in the very world he had once only been able to read about.
A shiver ran down Simon's spine as he wondered if the book had been more than just a coincidence. Had his love for "The Hero's Odyssey" been a factor in his transmigration to this world? Had the universe somehow sensed his passion and decided to give him a chance to live out his fantasies in reality?
Simon's mind whirled with the possibilities, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at the mysterious forces that had brought him here.
Simon took a deep breath, letting the thoughts drift away like mist in the morning sun.
"It's pointless to dwell on the past," Simon said aloud, his voice firm with resolve. "I need to focus on the future, on what I can control."
He realized that dwelling on the past wouldn't change his present circumstances. It was time to focus on the future, to seize the opportunities that this new world had to offer.
Simon stepped out of the shower, feeling a sense of determination wash over him. He had three weeks and two days to raise his physical stats, and he was determined to make the most of it.
Simon dried himself off with a towel, then walked over to his closet to grab some decent clothes. He picked out a pair of sturdy pants and a breathable t-shirt, then quickly changed into them.
Feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day, he walked over to his bed and picked up the "Beginner's Training Guide" book, flipping through the pages to the section on physical training. He started to read through the exercises and routines, making mental notes of what he needed to do.
As he read, Simon realized that he needed to start training immediately. He couldn't afford to waste any time if he wanted to reach his goals.
With a newfound sense of purpose, Simon set aside the book and started to make plans for his training regimen. He would need to find a safe place to train, and maybe even find a trainer or mentor to help him.
"Time to get started," Simon said to himself, "but first, let's have some breakfast. I'm kind of hungry."
He put aside his plans for training and headed to the kitchen to see what he could scrounge up for breakfast.
....
Simon finished his light breakfast, feeling a bit more energized and focused. "Time to get my finances in order," he said to himself.
He began to search for his wallet, rummaging through his pockets and the drawers of his nightstand.
"Ah, there you are," Simon said, finding the wallet on the dresser, tucked away in a corner. He opened it up and pulled out the contents, finding a small stash of cash.
"Not bad," Simon said, counting the cash. "I've got a decent amount to get started." He felt a sense of relief, knowing that he had some financial resources to fall back on as he began his training.
Simon pulled out the hotel reservation receipt from his wallet and checked the dates.
"Let's see...I've got a reservation for three weeks, and today is...day three," he said, counting the days. "That means I've got 18 days left before I need to check out."
Simon decided it was time to get started on his physical training. "The private training rooms in the hotel should be a good place to begin," he said to himself.
He grabbed his room key and headed out the door, making his way to the reception area. As he walked, he thought about his goals and what he needed to achieve in the next 23 days.
He was relieved that he wouldn't have to worry about finding a new place to stay after his hotel reservation ended, since he would be heading to the academy anyway.
Simon approached the reception area of the training room, where a friendly staff member greeted him. "Hello! Welcome to the training room. May I see your room key, please?"
Simon handed over his room key, and the staff member scanned it quickly. "Thank you, Mr...?"
"William," he replied.
"Thank you, Mr. William. You're all set. The private training room is just down that hallway, second door on your right."
Simon nodded his thanks and headed in the direction indicated. He walked into the private training room, closing the door behind him.
The training room was filled with an array of weights, mats, and training dummies, the walls lined with mirrors and wooden racks holding an assortment of wooden weapons like swords, spears, bows and shields.
He admired the spacious area for a moment, taking in the various equipment and facilities. He took a deep breath, feeling a sense of focus and determination.
"Time to get to work," he said to himself, beginning to plan out his training routine.
Simon began by stretching his muscles, starting with his hamstrings and quadriceps. He stood with his feet shoulder-width apart, then bent forward at the hips, reaching for his toes. He held the stretch for a few seconds, feeling the tension in his muscles begin to ease.
Next, he moved on to his chest and shoulder stretches, standing in front of a mirror to ensure he was maintaining proper form. As he stretched, he continued to focus on his goals, visualizing himself succeeding in his training.
With his muscles properly warmed up, Simon felt ready to move on to the next phase of his workout.
...
After doing some weightlifting, he thought about giving his spear training a go. Simon walked over to a large, open space in the private training room, where a few spear training dummies were set up. The area was also equipped with various wooden weapons, including wooden swords, staffs, and shields, which were hung neatly on the walls or placed in racks.
He had been interested in practicing his spear techniques for a while now, and he figured that today was as good a day as any to give it a try.
He picked up a nearby wooden spear, feeling its weight and balance in his hands. The wooden spear was designed to mimic the feel of a real spear, but was safer to use for training purposes. He had never actually used a spear in combat before, but he had studied the techniques and was eager to put them into practice.
Taking a deep breath, Simon began to move through a series of slow, deliberate movements, practicing his spear thrusts and parries. He focused on his footwork and timing, trying to get a feel for the rhythm of the spear.
Maybe it was due to the Basic Spearmanship skill listed in his status, but he was quickly getting the hang of it.
.....
After practicing for hours, he felt like he was about to collapse. His muscles ached, his breathing was labored, and his mind was numb from the intense focus. He leaned against the wall, letting the wooden spear slide to the floor as he tried to catch his breath.
A notification appeared on the screen in front of him.
[Endurance +1]
He smiled weakly, feeling a sense of accomplishment despite his exhaustion. The increase in Endurance was a welcome boost, and he knew it would help him in his future training sessions.
He slowly pushed himself off the wall and walked over to the nearby bench, collapsing onto it with a sigh of relief. After a few moments of rest, Simon's curiosity got the better of him, and he pulled up his status screen to review his progress.

"It's still pitiful," Simon said, looking at his overall stats and progress with a critical eye. "I've got a lot of work ahead of me," Simon said, his eyes scanning his stats.
Simon's eyes landed on the Elementalism tab, and he tapped on it, opening up the familiar screen:
_Elementalism_

Elemental Resistance:
Fire: 0%
Ice: 0%
Lightning: 0%
Earth: 0%

None (locked)

Simon's eyes scanned the Elementalism tab, and he let out a frustrated sigh. "I've been so focused on other things that I completely ignored this section... seriously, how could I have forgotten about this?"
He shook his head, annoyed at his own oversight. "This could've been a game-changer... and yet, I've been neglecting it this whole time."
Simon's eyes sparkled with determination as he thought, "Time to stop neglecting this aspect of my abilities. Let's see if I can unlock something." He focused his mind and tried to access the locked Elemental Abilities.
[Attempt to unlock Elemental Ability?]
Note: Unlocking an Elemental Ability requires a minimum of 50 mana. Each subsequent attempt will double the mana cost.
Current Mana: 100
[Proceed?]
Simon took a deep breath, weighed his options, and decided to proceed. He confirmed his choice, and the prompt disappeared. A warm, golden light enveloped his body as the mana began to flow.
Mana: 50/100
The light intensified, and Simon felt his body begin to resonate with the elemental forces. The air around him seemed to charged with anticipation.
Suddenly, a burst of energy exploded from Simon's body, and he felt an intense connection to the elements. A new prompt appeared before him:
Elemental Ability Unlocked: Fire
Elemental Ability (Fire): Level 1
Simon's eyes widened with excitement as he realized he had successfully unlocked his first elemental ability!
Simon's excitement was palpable as he gazed at the prompt. He had done it! He had actually unlocked an elemental ability! He took a moment to savor the feeling of accomplishment before focusing on the next step.
He opened the Elemental Ability menu to examine his new skill. The menu displayed the following information:
Elemental Ability (Fire): Level 1
- Ability: Flame Edge
- Description: Imbue your weapon with fire, dealing moderate fire damage to enemies and setting them ablaze for additional damage over time.
- Mana Cost: 10
- Cooldown: 5 seconds
Simon's eyes lit up as he read the description. Flame Edge seemed like a perfect fit for his combat style, and he couldn't wait to test it out.
With his newfound Flame Edge ability, Simon sought out a safe place to test its limits. He made his way to a nearby clearing, his wooden spear at the ready.
He had decided to test his new Flame Edge ability in a controlled environment before taking it into actual combat.
With a swift motion, Simon activated Flame Edge, and the spearhead erupted in a small blaze. He lunged forward, striking a nearby training dummy with a precise thrust.
The flames on the spearhead danced across the dummy's surface, scorching the wood and leaving a smoldering mark. Simon nodded, satisfied with the result.
He continued to train, testing the limits of his Flame Edge ability and refining his technique. With each strike, he felt his confidence growing.
Since Simon's spear is made of wood, there's a risk that the flames from the Flame Edge ability could ignite the spear itself.
As Simon continued to train, he noticed that the flames on the spearhead were starting to lick at the wooden shaft. He realized he needed to be careful to avoid setting his own spear ablaze.
As Simon continued to train, he noticed that his struggle to control the flames was taking a toll on his mana. He had started to feel a slight strain, and his mana reserves were dwindling.
Mana: 20/100
Simon gazed at his dwindling mana reserves, the numbers hovering in his mind like a warning bell. 20/100. He was spent. With a quiet resolve, he made the decision to stop for the day, acknowledging that he'd reached his limit.
As he tried to look at his status, he saw that his elemental mastery for fire had increased by 1%, now standing at 1%.
Additionally, his resistance to fire had also increased by 1%, a welcome bonus. A small smile crept onto his face, A slow smile spread across Simon's face as he reviewed his progress. The intense training session had paid off, after all.

Sleep was already starting to claim him, but he couldn't help but smile, knowing that he'd taken another step forward on his journey.
