Chapter 1: Taking a break.

Gojo was on his way home, and all he had on his mind was seeing her again. It had been so long since he'd seen her in person and all he wanted to do was hold her and kiss her. As he continued to walk, he couldn't take it. He 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥 to hear her voice so he pulled his phone out and called her, a big stupid smile on his face as he waited for her to answer.

She answered the phone. "..Gojo? Is that you? You're back from your mission?.." How weird. She didn't even have a bit of happiness in her voice. This isn't like her at all. Gojo was taken aback a bit by her tone. It was so different from her usual happy, upbeat self. But not noticing too much, he smiled. "Yeah, honey, it's me. I'm just around the corner from home. It's been a good while since I got to see your pretty face. How have you been without me, huh, princess?" "..." She goes quiet for a second. "..Let's.. Let's have a divorce." She said straightforwardly with zero to no hesitation. He stopped for a second, his smile fading and being replaced with a concerned look. "What…? Are you kidding? Is this about how little I've been home lately?" He seemed confused. He thought she'd be ecstatic that he was coming home today. He didn't understand why she was asking for something like this. "Nayuri, I… I don't understand…" "...you're right. It is somewhat because of how little you've been home these days. I just don't feel like our relationship is working, Gojo." Something that is really weird, Nayuri never calls Gojo by his last name. She always and only ever calls him by his first name, Satoru.

Gojo was absolutely flabbergasted. This was the last thing he was expecting from this conversation. "It's not working…? What do you mean it's not working?" He sounded hurt, a little bit angry. A hint of resentment. "Of course our relationship is working. I married you for a reason; I love you, Nayuri. Why would I want to get a divorce?" Gojo was still confused. "..I'm asking nicely right now.. So please, don't.." She sighs. "Do you even have an idea of how 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 things I've had to go through by myself these days? Because you weren't there for me! You only ever cared about your job! So, stop lying..." The sadness and anger in her voice was evident that she was crying behind the phone. He stood there in silence. A mixture of shock, confusion and hurt on his face. He started to wonder what had all led up to 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. He wanted to understand what was going on and fix it. "That's not true… Yes, my job takes up a lot of my time as a sorcerer. But I love you, Nayuri. Of 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 I care about you. You're my 𝘸𝘪𝘧𝘦, for god's sake!" He had accidentally gotten a little mad at her. "𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳, 𝗴𝗼𝗱𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁!" She suddenly shouted at him, it seems that she had snapped. "I wanted to kill myself because you weren't there! I didn't even know the reason why I was alive anymore! I've been through so much! I was waiting for you to at least try to call me first, but it took days and those days turned into weeks, and months! I've had enough, Gojo! Don't even think of texting or calling me anymore!" She ended the call.

As soon as he heard the words 'I wanted to kill myself' he was taken aback. Shocked. He froze before his heart started to drop into his stomach. She was 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 unhappy? He started to wonder if he truly was just too obsessed with his job…

He stood frozen in shock before he quickly started to head home. He was scared about how she'd be when he got there. Would she be okay? Would she be safe? Would she do something reckless just because he wasn't there for her? Gojo opened the door with his key, expecting Nayuri to be there, but she wasn't. He searched the whole house for her, but there wasn't a single trace of her. As he looked around and saw no trace of her, he felt panic start to hit him. He 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 she was probably feeling down or sad but he never thought she'd try to do anything drastic. Without any thought, he grabbed his cell phone and frantically dialed her number. It went straight to voicemail. "Damn it!" He cursed, quickly calling her number again. And again. And again. And again. The line ringing over and over before going to voicemail each time. Gojo then noticed a note on the table and picked it up to read it. It said:

I'm not going to divorce us yet, but I'll need you to give me some space. To think about everything. I'll give you a call once I decide what to do. If you're wondering where I am, don't worry. I'm safe. I'm not going to tell you where I am. I know you'll try to search for me if I do. So, goodbye for now, Gojo.

-Nayuri, your dear wife.

It had her writing and everything. None of it was fake. There were so many conflicting emotions. Part of him was relieved that she was okay and safe. But in his head, he still wished he knew where that 'safe' place was. He felt so confused, so torn… He looked down at the note, trying to decipher what went through her mind when she wrote this. Was she sad? Angry? Confused, just like him? Was she going to leave him? Did she hate him? Gojo felt fur brushing his leg. It was Tofu, Nayuri's winter dog (male). Nayuri loved Tofu so much. It was surprising that she left Tofu behind. He looked down at Tofu and sighed. He was surprised that she left Tofu behind since she obviously cared so much for him. He bent down and gently pet him on the head. "Hey, boy. Where's your mommy, huh?" Tofu looked a bit sad as Gojo asked that question. It was like he could understand him in a way. Tofu lied down on Gojo's feet. A small smile appeared on Gojo's face as Tofu laid down next to him. But it faded after a couple seconds as he looked around the apartment. It felt so empty without her. Like her absence left a big hollow hole in his heart. He was so used to coming home to her, having her around... Gojo's phone then later gets a notification. He checked what it was, and it was Nayuri. She texted him something. Gojo's eyes widened a bit as a notification from her came through. He was scared, but he picked up his phone and opened the messages. What would she say? Would it be something good? Something bad? Or was it something that would add to his worry that her leaving was a sign she didn't love him anymore?

The text said:

"I'll leave Tofu to you for now. Take good care of him, please. I'd like to see Tofu doing well when we meet again."

It was short, but at least she didn't say anything bad. He felt a mixture of emotions. Of course he was a little happy to hear from his wife, but the text seemed a little cold and distant. Almost like it was nothing more than a simple announcement. But she said 'when we meet again.' That seemed like a hopeful message, right? The word 'when' instead of 'if'… that was good, right?
