Alice went to the front desk of Building Four to brief the staff, not taking any chances.
She knew well she couldn't afford to offend such an important guest.
The girls were all flustered.
Then she made her way back to her office, looking at the time and realizing she was off early, which made her feel quite cheerful.
She was often such a simple person, easily contented.
She thought that Jenny might still be traipsing around the hotel in her high heels, and she couldn't help but feel relieved that she had lucked into such a cushy assignment.
She called the head of Building Four to notify them and emphasized the guest's importance before remembering to call back Mr. Thompson.
After a brief update, Mr. Thompson instructed, "Jenny is handling a luxury tour group from the States recently, and she's told me the public relations department is swamped. Well, for the Lemon product launch, you'll still be in charge, okay?"
This was exactly what Alice had anticipated, so she wasn't surprised and simply agreed, "Alright."
She quickly interjected while Mr. Thompson paused for breath, "Oh, the housekeeping department has some complaints. I need to go check on that."
She hastily hung up, sitting back in her chair and staring into space, hoping time would pass quickly as she had plans to go shopping with Lily early that morning.
After handling emails and listening to a middle-aged customer complain about the noise from construction outside the room, Alice changed out of her neat uniform into casual clothes and waited for Lily at the back door.
Employees weren't allowed to use the main entrance, and the back exit wasn't as grand as the main one, with its wide, shaded path and luxurious cars always parked there.
Instead, the back exit opened up to a bustling street of snack vendors, where once outside, one merged with the lively crowd, feeling the warmth of the mundane world.
What happened next left Alice gaping in astonishment.
Lily came sprinting towards her in high heels, moving at a speed that could rival Usain Bolt in a sprint.
"I heard…" Lily panted, leaning on Alice's shoulder.
"The Lemon CEO is super handsome, isn't he?"She finished the words for her, with a happy chuckle.
"Is the news reliable?"
"Can the girls at Building Four not be so gaga? If I didn't keep an eye on them, they'd be all infatuated with the Lemon CEO."
Alice laughed delightfully.
"Please tell me!"
Lily lost her patience, shaking Alice's arm.
"Just average-looking, but not if he's rich. Otherwise, he'd be just another ordinary person with decent looks."
Alice pried Lily's hands off her arm and said, "But to be honest, their marketing director is quite the looker.
You'd better take advantage of the opportunity."
Lily gave her a doubtful look, seeing that Alice wasn't joking, and muttered, "My God, don't play tricks on me.
What if I miss out on a good match…"
Alice laughed loudly, "When did he become your good match? With so much business between us and Lemon, you're bound to run into them."
They went to The Barking Crab for dinner.
The food was really delicious.
Alice had grown up eating light dishes.
When she went to study in another city, she struggled to adapt to the strong flavors there.
Now that she was back working, she found herself occasionally craving those flavors and couldn't resist indulging herself.
After a satisfying meal, the chilly wind outside didn't seem so terrifying, and they discussed where to go shopping while holding hands.
Suddenly, Lily looked at Alice with infinite sympathy, "Do you know? Jenny just came to the boss to complain."
Alice immediately became alert, "Why?"
"It's that handsome guy you mentioned, he's being very difficult, asking all sorts of questions, and Jenny was nearly driven to tears.
She refuses to work with him again, but luckily she has several other tasks on hand, so she can use that as an excuse for being too busy."
Lily gloated over that.
Alice almost choked, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"I was afraid you'd lose your appetite."
Lily drawled, "I think you should forget about shopping and prepare for your work instead."
Alice made a silent bet with herself, feeling that Jenny and Mr.
Thompson were both a bit disgusting.
She decided to put on a carefree front, "After all, I'm a skilled employee.
They can't really make things difficult for me, can they? Let's go, let's go shopping."
Back home, the relaxed atmosphere dissipated, and she had to prepare for the work done--she threw various bags onto the sofa without bothering to tidy up, quickly opening her computer to check the emails from Lemon, which contained the background materials.
This preparation took a few hours.
She instinctively reached for a cup nearby, only to find it empty.
Glancing at the time, nearing midnight, she decided to skip tea or coffee to avoid insomnia.
She would need to give her all the next day.
For a big company like Lemon, they had a team full of elites.
All Alice needed to do was find the right venue and ensure the specific details were in place.
It sounded simple, but Alice began to understand Jenny's difficulties.
Lemon was meticulous to the point of even considering a specific parking spot.
Alice had pulled personnel from various departments to facilitate coordination.
Jack was easy to work with, and amid the busy schedule, that brought some comfort to Alice.
While the work was indeed demanding, he was ultimately a sunny young man, and they chatted and joked together after hours.
After two days of hard work, the initial plan was drafted, and the specific venue was roughly confirmed.
Alice smiled, "When will your boss review it?"
"Our boss? He doesn't have time for that," Jack lazily closed his laptop.
"Don't rush it. We'll need to revise it at least seven or eight times."
Alice sighed and bid farewell to Jack before returning to the office.
A call came from Building Four: "Miss Smith, Mr. Williams is in his room now."
As a standard procedure, VIPs should be called for feedback after about four days.
Alice replied and dialed the hotel's direct line.
For some reason, she felt a bit nervous--she scolded herself for still having such girlish thoughts at her age.
However, she couldn't help but think of those bright, dark eyes and felt unsure.
The voice on the other end sounded somewhat tired and hoarse, "Hello?"
Alice quickly gathered herself and reflexively recited a series of habitual phrases, mustering up courage,
"Mr. Williams, we'd like to ask for your feedback on the hotel service. Are you satisfied with your stay?"
John leaned back on the sofa, absentmindedly responding, "Very good."
He wasn't someone who paid too much attention to such matters.
Alice breathed a sigh of relief, her tone lightening, "Thank you. If you have any questions, please feel free to call our front desk, and we will do our best to provide thoughtful service."
She was just about to say goodbye when the other end of the phone spoke up quietly and asked, "Who's that speaking?"
Alice was taken aback and answered, "This is Alice speaking. It was I who showed you the room that day."
She suddenly felt the words were unnecessary. For someone like him, how could they possibly remember these things?
John withdrew his attention from the notebook and tugged into a faint smile, emphasizing with a casual tone, "Hello, Miss Smith. I'm quite satisfied with your service."
