Alice didn't notice John answering a call in a low voice, and turned to look at him, "Do you still want to watch TV?"
He put away the phone, looking composed, and asked, "Are you free tomorrow? Jack wants you to come to Lemon." He took a sip of coffee. "There are some preparations for a new mobile phone launch event for Christmas."
Alice's heart stirred, and quickly raised her eyes. It was quite a coincidence. She was determined not to return to work and didn't know how to continue taking leave,
John smiled, placed the cup back on the table and stood up, "Have a good rest. I'm leaving."
Alice got up to see him off, handing him his coat and casually asking, "Are you going back to the hotel?"
John hesitated for a moment, "No."
As she bid him goodbye with a smile, "Thank you for the meal," he stood quietly in front of her, one hand on the door, "Alice, you think you're silly, but don't you think he also lives in the past? His visit this time may be motivated by a desire to see you and to get a true end." He sighed, "Sometimes, inducing you is just irresistible."
Standing at the door, watching John leave, Alice suddenly felt upset. She thought, perhaps he was right. The forum had just begun, and yet he was leaving. He had traveled a long way to come, probably to see her.
She closed the door and suddenly felt a heavy sense of loneliness. After crying, her body felt exhausted, so while she still had strength, she got herself a cup of hot milk. Wish herself a good night.
Sure enough, she slept well and woke up refreshed. The first thing she did was call the HR department. The HR manager told her Mr. Thompson had already approved her remote work in Lemon.
She then called Jack. After confirming a time, Alice realized she had enough time to have breakfast and felt like she was going crazy. She was actually feeling elated because she could have her favorite breakfast. She quickly walked into Sweet Retreat to order a Funfetti Cupcake and some milk.
She sat at the table by the door, feeling warmth spreading from her mouth to her entire body.
Alice walked into Lemon's building, where the receptionist looked radiant. She stood aside while she called the marketing department to confirm the appointment.
After a moment, the woman hung up the phone and said with grace to Alice: "Miss Smith, Director Wright is now with the CEO. He asked you to go to Mr. Williams' office directly, which is on the 24th floor."
Alice thanked her and headed towards the elevator. The walls were shiny, and Alice was pleased to see her own reflection as a white-collar office lady in the mirror.
As soon as the elevator door opened, a woman of similar age had already been waiting at the exit: "Are you Miss Smith? Follow me please." Alice nodded slightly uncomfortably.
She sensed that the woman's gaze seemed to be evaluating her, with a hint of arrogance. She found it interesting that there were so many people pretending to be superior in the workplace.
The corridor was long and quiet, until suddenly Jack rushed out, talking on his phone as he moved quickly towards Alice until he stopped before her. With a big smile on his face, "Welcome to Lemon. I have something urgent to deal with.
Please wait for me in Mr. Williams' office." Before Alice could say anything, Jack hurried off. But the young lady leading the way looked back at Alice. When they arrived at the CEO's office, she went to the secretary's office and whispered to a middle-aged woman: "Miss Smith is coming."
Anna Allen stood up and greeted her with a smile, opening the door for her. The office was extremely spacious, but minimalist in decor, all in black, white and gray tone - although the central air conditioning made it feel somewhat cold.
He raised his head up from behind the desk and smiled: "Welcome. Jack has to deal with something urgent and will be back soon. Please wait here for him."
"Okay." Alice felt a bit uncomfortable, turning around to see that the secretary had closed the door behind her. She sat down on the sofa, and her eyes unconsciously gravitated toward the large array of phones displayed on the opposite counter.
John held his chin with one hand, seeing that she wanted to sit far away from him, but he didn't force it, focusing on his emails instead.
Alice looked at the different styles and models of phones displayed there, then turned to look at John who was still focused on working at his desk. She couldn't help but ask: "May I take a look at those phones? They are amazing."
John smiled and said: "Please go ahead. They haven't been released yet. Which one do you prefer? Then take the one you like."
Alice responded simply: "Thanks. I'm just in awe of the sight."
The most eye-catching phone was a white one, much bigger than usual female cell phones - its body was big, with tiny clear crystals shining like stars on a small Christmas tree. Alice was struck by its brilliance and couldn't help but sigh: "It's Christmas season! How beautiful!"
John looked up with a smile: "Do you like it?"
Of course such kind of phone must cost thousands of dollars - Alice just replied: "So beautiful!"
Before John could speak, Jack walked in with some documents. Seeing Alice standing next to new phone products, he couldn't help laughing: "Do you like our special Christmas collection? It was created with Givenchy together. This is how we earn money from ladies!"
Alice praised them genuinely and picked it up to have a closer look. "Wouldn't these be easy targets for thieves if I use it on the street?" she asked curiously.
"Haha, I already reserved a model for my girlfriend. You know, it's pretty cool to use this phone on the streets." He got close to Alice, putting on a show, "It's limited edition. You can't get it just because you have money."
He picked up another black phone nearby, which was simpler and lacked any decorations, and handed it to Alice, "Check this out, it's the couple's edition." The phone had a unique design that was elegant and noble, and it was a perfect match.
Alice gave a faint smile, "Your girlfriend is really lucky." She took the documents and flipped through them, "Is that all?"
Jack chuckled without saying anything, his gaze passing over her and landing on John. After a moment, he said, "Let's go talk somewhere else."
John leaned back in his chair, watching them quietly, "Take your time. I'll stay behind, then."
They went down to the marketing department's office, and Alice knew Jack's style well enough to expect him to put on a sour face. She looked at the phone documents and couldn't help but ask, "Only 5,000 limited edition?"
"Yeah, 5,000 are the pre-order limited edition, and then it'll be open for public sale." He buried his head in the data, "But only the black ones are limited edition."
"Black?" Alice was taken aback.
"You ladies are into these sorts of things," Jack grinned, "Let's have lunch together. I'll show you our cafe."
Alice casually agreed with a "Sure."
