39 We Apologize

Alice heard this and thought for a moment, glancing at a boy standing nearby, holding a stylish music phone. She smiled and asked, "What brand is your phone?"

The boy was confused, "Lemon's."

Alice smiled, "The gentleman in the white shirt over there is the CEO of Lemon. He's often in magazines, so it's not surprising that you found him familiar." She paused, as expected, hearing astonishment from the crowd, especially several girls, who were already whispering among themselves. "So, I ask all of you to take a serious attitude, we are servers, and every guest at Roosevelt is a VIP." She emphasized again, "Also, keep your phone on silent mode, don't always hold it in your hand."

The dining hall supervisor came hurriedly, saw Alice, and apologized repeatedly: "I'm so sorry, Mr. Williams suddenly asked for a private room just now, I'm late."

"No problem, I was also surprised they were here at this time. I just met them at the door." Alice gestured for the interns to follow the supervisor, "Okay. Take them around, especially those assigned to the dining department." Alice checked the time, "Human Resources will take them to the department later, I'm leaving first."

She watched as a group of people walked upstairs, then turned and left, heading to the staff cafe for lunch. John had not left, he seemed to have heard the crisp sound of high heels, turned around, and couldn't help but smile.

John watched her suddenly stop, a bit panicked. Alice glanced around, as if confirmed whether it was herself he was waiting for. He couldn't help but laugh and say, "I was waiting for you, I didn't greet you earlier, just making up for it."

Alice's face, even in the cold wind, couldn't help but turn red, and she stammered, "You're back from your business trip?"

His car was parked nearby, Alice accompanied him to it, John suddenly asked, "Why have you been walking around the garden all day today?"

Alice was startled and asked back, "How did you know?"

John smiled slightly, and he pointed to the second floor of the cafe behind him, Alice looked back, which was the window of a private dining room on the second floor, an excellent position that overlooked the entire garden. She nodded, smiling, "A batch of interns just arrived, I was taking them around to get familiar with the place." She didn't have lunch and felt hungry, and she couldn't help but frown, gently putting her hand on her stomach.

Just as she reached the car, John half-held the car door and asked very seriously, "Haven't you had lunch yet?"

Alice suddenly smiled and joked, "Chatting with you, forgot about eating." She waved to him and walked back, "Bye, Mr. Williams."

John He wrinkled his brow, looking at her intently, and finally moved his gaze away, "I have to go back to company. Don't overwork. Don't let others worry about you ."

He didn't give her a glance in the end, yet the reminder was clearly affectionate, as he drove away, Alice could hear the sound of the engine fading into the distance, but her thoughts clearly didn't drift away, entangled and confusing.

In the afternoon, when she checked work at Building Two, Alice did see that very beautiful intern, Nancy, as she remembered, so she stood aside and asked her, "Do you remember all the rooms in Building Two?"

Nancy confidently nodded.

"The second room on the left on the third floor?"

"Room 306."

After trying several times, Nancy answered clearly and accurately, and Alice kept nodding and smiled, "Very good."

She liked this bright and clever young girl, who was so sweet and clean that she couldn't help but say a few more words, "Building Two is the VIP building, where Roosevelt's regular rooms and suites are located. Be careful when working and ask others if you're not sure. Mrs Taylor mentioned that you were outstanding in university."

It was a rare chance for Alice to teach the young people as a senior, but the bell on the service desk interrupted her, giving her a sense of frustration. She picked up the phone casually, "Hello, Building Four."

But there was no sound from the other end of the phone. Alice looked at the caller ID, 316, and her voice immediately became unsteady as she repeated, "Hello, is anyone there?"

"Could you please bring two laptops to our room?" John's voice was very polite, followed by a light laughter, "Is that you?"

Alice simply replied, "Please wait, I will be right there."

She hurriedly told Nancy, "Bring two laptops to room 316. They were in the fourth drawer of the work cabinet." She turned and left without noticing the bright light in the young girl's eyes.

Jack couldn't help but exclaim "Hey" when opening the door, with a flippant and carefree demeanor. Nancy was a bit stiff, handing over the laptops, "Here are the laptops you requested." The door opened halfway, and John sitting on the sofa looked over and saw a very quiet and sweet young girl. He felt an inexplicable stir in his heart and moved his gaze away indifferently.

When Alice arrived at Building Two again, her steps were hurried because she was walking too fast and was slightly out of breath. She had just received a call that Nancy had spilled coffee on a guest in the lobby bar, causing an immediate dispute. What Alice saw was not a dispute, it was clearly loud scolding. She didn't recognize the man, and at that moment, Nancy stood to one side, her eyes red, too scared to say anything.

There were several men around, the arrogant rich men, the greasy middle-aged rich men. Alice steeled herself, "Hello, I am Alice, the manager of the lobby. Sir, we apologize."

It was of no use. For the first time since she had started working, Alice felt on the verge of a breakdown. The hot air from the air conditioner blew against her temples, causing a throbbing pain that was very uncomfortable. She felt like she was a language repeater, repeating the same few sentences over and over: "We will immediately send your clothes to the dry cleaners." "We're terribly sorry." "We apologize."

And at this moment, Nancy began to sob softly. The guest sneered, "Why are you crying? It's I who should cry at encountering such a hotel."

Alice didn't understand how there could be such a difficult guest. She almost wanted to ask, "What would you like us to do?", but that would be a big taboo, and she could only bow and apologize again and again.

"Mr Johnson, have you been waiting long?" A familiar voice cut through the cacophony.

The scene seemed to be cooled down in an instant.
