48 I Miss You So Much

There was still noise from the playground outside, and in fact, it wasn't late at all, just after nine o'clock.

Alice remembered that when she was an undergraduate, she would just finish studying and would be lingering at the night snack stalls.

But her world was as quiet as water, with only the low voice asking, "Alice?"

She sat up, "Hi Mr Williams." She made her voice sound cheerful.

"Where… are you?" John's voice sounded worried, and Alice's instinct immediately kicked in, realizing that John must have drunk alcohol.

"You got drunk?"

There was only a low laugh, and after a long time, he said, "I am tipsy, not drunk. You know, just for business."

Alice hesitated for a while, unsure what to say, and casually asked, "You must be very busy these days?"

He didn't answer, but suddenly and word for word, "I miss you so much."

There was only the busy tone left.
