January 15th, 2090
"January 17th is when you shall execute your next target. I have no doubts that you would fail me". It's been two weeks since my trip to Star City with Valkarie. I wish it could've been longer, but oh well. "Yessir I won't". I say as usual. The boss got up from his seat, took a deep breath, then exhaled.
"Our next major target is Star City. Most of our profit is moving to Star". Our syndicate is well known for drug related deals or atleast the boss is. I mostly do assassination work for him, so I don't know much about him when it comes down to his dealing side. Whenever there's "threats" to the group or to him, I'm the one sent to dispose of them. "The ports in Star City are major global ports, we can expand our operations beyond the seas". The was interrupted by another Angels member, as soon as he was about to continue his long speech.
"Mr. Frank, the problem you spoke of, it seems like you were right". He laughed and said, "of course, I'm always right", then continued explaining the assignment. "Like I said, before we were rudely interrupted, if we can gain control over the port in Star City, we can expand our operations beyond the seas. It's about time we take what's ours, which are the seas. If we control the seas and the trades, then we rule the lands.
Our only problem is high level security. We need you to infiltrate the security at Star City docks and once you do that, find a way for the rest of the team to accompany you, so we can begin our operation". I felt like the plan was missing some pieces, even though I'm against the whole thing. "Once I find a way for the rest of the team to join me, what plans do you have in mind" ? I asked. The boss just smiled and replied with, "like I said, our operation begins. You have 48 hours to prepare Ghost, do not fail me". He then escorted me out of his office and that was the last time I saw him that day.
10:00 P.M.
After having that discussion with the boss, I couldn't get much sleep. Valkarie haven't made it back home from work yet surprisingly, and I can't let her find out… I kept tossing and turning in bed until I heard Valkarie come in through the front door. I quickly rushed downstairs to greet her.
"Hey hun, how was work"? I asked, helping her with the groceries she brought home. She greeted me with a kiss and replied with, "Yes work was alright". Her face grew pale as she started to speak again. "Despite work being ok, I was being followed for a while. I wasn't scared, but I found it odd that I was being followed, even though it was from a distance". I had a horrible feeling about this, so I asked her if she got a glimpse of the clothes her stalkers were wearing. "They all wore business casual clothes and they had a star tat on their neck, it's the same star that matches the one on your shoulder. I dropped all the groceries and bolted outside. "Why the hell are other members spying on her".
I thought to myself. I spent twenty minutes outside looking for the other members, but I found no one… not a soul.. "Shit"...
After spending twenty minutes outside and running around like a headless chicken, I went back in the house and finally told her everything. I suspected that she would hate me, but I was wrong. For years, death, destruction, and murder have always been a part of my life. I always killed for the boss, doing so without hesitation, but I never enjoyed it. I could never speak out against him, after all, he took me in. With countless victims falling by my hands and with me telling her the truth about everything, how could she not hate me ? I'm an assassin after all, a murderer, so… what's the deal?
She held my face in her hands, as I fell to my knees in guilt, while tearing up. "I don't want to do this anymore. It's wrong and I just can't take it anymore". She smiled and hugged me. "I always was curious about that star, but now I know. Despite you being an assassin, I don't think you're evil at heart. You did what you had to do to survive, knowing this would be a dark path. I love you Will and you're never alone, now it's time to forge your own path. Free yourself, you don't have to do this anymore". For the sake of my future, I decided to leave the Angels for good, even though I'm under contract with them for two more years.
I want a family, a peaceful life, and no more bloodshed. Valkarie had sparked something in me that night, which will give me the courage to speak against the boss tomorrow.
