What does it mean to be normal? For most people, being normal means being human. Some may assert that possessing 46 chromosomes constitutes the standard for normality, while others might define normalcy through an Aryan lens. But in truth, normality is a construct shaped by societal perceptions and nothing more. As our society evolves, so too does the definition of normal. For instance, dating back a few years, performing videos showcasing negative emotions was considered both normal and trendy; today, however, it is viewed as an oddity. Humans are inherently curious beings, there is no changing that, drawn to the abnormal despite its occasional presumptuousness. I find myself to be the subject of such curiosity, not because I fail to meet expectations, but because I consistently exceed the typical human capabilities. This naturally attracted attention, similar to how a magnet projects metallic-based objects to itself– I find myself in a similar situation; though the metal represents humans.
As I gazed into the distance, a profound sense of freedom and enthusiasm washed over me like a tsunami. The landscape before me sparkled with myriad lights, predominantly yellow, interspersed with other familiar hues. The beauty of the scene was undeniable even in my eyes. From this vantage point, one could truly grasp the entirety of the picture, rather than just a fragment of it. I pondered how different the world might turn out to be if everyone could attain such a perspective. My reverie was abruptly interrupted by a flight attendant's inquiry, "Excuse me, would you like coffee or tea?" I replied, "No, but if there's something to eat, I'd gladly take it." Her response was one of barely concealed disdain, unlike the previous attendant's reaction. Drawing a parallel to my apparent unconventional request, I wondered if the other attendant would have reacted similarly. "We don't have that option. The food service was an hour ago; that was your chance," she replied, with a smile but an ominous tone. Feeling defeated and embarrassed, I turned my gaze back to the scenery, overhearing her subsequent interactions with passengers, which seemed tinged with mockery, as if making fun of my subsequent blunder earlier. I sighed, reflecting on the diversity of human personalities. Despite our shared origins, the freedom of will fosters a vast spectrum of individuality. People overall times have categorized these personas. An example is
Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Cooks Briggs built on Jung's theories by developing the "Myers Bridge Type Indicator or shortened" MBTI". This categorized people's personalities into 16 distinct types. There is also the existence of books showcasing people's personalities, like "Surrounded of Psychopaths" written by Thomas Erikson.
The so-called free will we possess is a heavily debated topic in contemporary society, frequently discussed in media and literature. Its importance is paramount. Even the Bible underscores free will, as exemplified in Joshua 24:15, "And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
A loud announcement echoed through the speakers, signaling our imminent landing. The tension rose in a crescendo as the plane slowly decelerated. I remained calm, aware that being in a window seat limited my immediate actions. Predictably, the cabin erupted into a kerfuffle as passengers scrambled for their belongings. "Kudos to those swift enough," I thought, while also sympathizing with the less fortunate ones, "you have my sincere support," I whispered similar to a prayer. After what felt like a lifetime I was finally able to move to my luggage, even though most people were gone I didn't have much leeway to speak of in the aisle; in simpler terms, it was tight. Eventually, I retrieved my luggage and disembarked, feeling an inexplicable lightness, as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. Perhaps this weight stemmed from my detachment from real life, confined to observing the world through a screen.
Though I have learned about society's evolution, my experience is limited to virtual realms, not being present in the events. Our world can be seen as both a utopia and a dystopia. A few years ago, political factions—far-right, far-left, and neutral—were embroiled in a cold war, with no clear path forward nor a clear way to determine whom to uphold the power in this country, the same issue was also happening across Europe. With a three-divided regime, it almost felt like a syzygy, things aside the internet naturally mirrored this division, with troll accounts set up by the parties meant to sway the other side but also to control its own, and virtual conflicts exacerbating the discord. Despite that, it was at a standstill in the regime, the problem stemmed from the cliche arguments that were being used, right-wing parties attributed societal issues to the immigration policy, and the root cause for every problem stemmed from them—then garnering substantial online supporters who amplified its importance with videos racially addressing the issue through religion. New phrases also came to light like far-right=right, TND, Europe is waking up, and blue heart emojis. Naturally, the left also ran in circles by using the same arguments, conversely, the left-wing factions championed free speech and emphasized the fact of equality, despite religion and other factors. Similar to the right they also influenced the media, although they mostly found reason to accuse the right-wing of blunt racism. Neutral voices struggled to mediate with finding a middle ground, although their efforts were heroic, it was akin to finding a needle in a haystack. For years, these factions clashed without resolution and only spat diatribes at each other, until the left uncovered incriminating evidence against right-wing leaders, there were traces of racism, nazism, power abuse, rape, election fraud, torture, and lots more; there was also clear existing evidence to back up their claims like fingerprints and recordings. This then naturally reaches the outside world and citizens, and the realization the people faced was enough to deal a critical hit to the right, leading to a shift in power and thus the control of the left-wing government.
I find all of this political dispute wearisome and personally wish to remain uninvolved in it. Unfortunately, that isn't my choice to make, similar to how a dog must obey its owner's will and needs I don't have any "free will" to speak of. A dog follows the order of its master, and even though reluctance might be present it rarely shows, similar to a dog, my actions are dictated by commands, not my desires, the orders I have been given are not my feelings, but rather someone else's. The only reason I possess this current freedom outside of that hellhole is to fulfill one command, and similar to a dog I will create the wishes of my owner.
