Gao Cai led Monk Tang Sanzang and his two disciples and servants to the outside of a courtyard, instructing them to wait there while he went in to announce them.
As soon as he saw Elder Gao, before he could even begin to scold, Gao Cai hurriedly said,
"Reporting to you, Elder, as I was leaving the village, I accidentally ran into three monks; one was riding a white horse, one holding the reins, and another carrying a load. They held onto me and wouldn't let go, asking me where I was headed. Despite my attempts to avoid arguing with them, I couldn't escape their persistence, and had no choice but to relay the task that you had commanded of me. They were very pleased, saying they were exactly suited for this kind of work, wanting to help us capture the demon!"
Elder Gao twirled his beard and pondered, "Where are they from?"
Gao Cai replied, "They said they are the imperial monk disciples from the Eastern Land, dispatched to the Western Heaven to obtain the Scriptures."
