Chapter 223: The Problem of Raising Dragons

Chapter 223: The Problem of Raising Dragons

Roning counted and discovered a total of 136 dragon scales that had fallen from Carlos. Given the size of each scale, there should be no problem crafting a suit of dragon scale armor.

The real challenge was finding someone capable of creating such armor. William, the carpenter from Ironwood Workshop? Unfortunately, they struggled with black ironwood, so dragon scales were definitely out of their league.

After much consideration, Roning concluded that only a blacksmith would be suitable.

However, a blacksmith of Kallus's caliber would likely be insufficient. He would need to be at least a craftsman or even a master blacksmith like Daen, preferably with the strength of a knight.

"If it doesn't work out, I'll have to do it myself," he mused.

Lost in thought, Roning leaped back onto Carlos' back.

Although Carlos' level had increased, the wound on his back had not yet healed. There was no further bleeding, but the area was still stained with dried blood, presenting a grim appearance.

Roning took out a healing spell scroll and applied it to the wound, but the dragon's resilience far exceeded human levels, making the second-level spell almost ineffective.

"What is your current condition? Can you still fly?" Roning asked.

Carlos struggled to stand but his legs were shaky, and he collapsed helplessly onto the beach.

"I'm sorry, Master. I'm still very weak and it's difficult for me to move," Carlos admitted.

He had expended a great deal of energy and had been injured and worn out by Roning. Even with his elevated level, immediate recovery was impossible; it would take time to gradually regain his strength and vitality.

"Then you should rest," Roning advised, in no hurry to leave.

He had learned from Carlos that although there were still people in the cave, they were merely servants and posed no threat to Redal and the others.

After completing his exploration of the cave, Roning's journey to the North was deemed a success. He sat cross-legged on the dragon's back, refining his magical power.

From the beginning of the battle to the subjugation of Carlos, Roning had used magic countless times. His endurance could only be attributed to his favorable attribute affinity, skilled casting, and substantial reserves of magical power.

Refining magical power required one to sense the elemental forces between heaven and earth carefully and absorb them into the mana space, a process that was calming, though seemingly tedious.

"Gugu~"

An unexpected noise disrupted Roning's focus. He opened his eyes in surprise, looking at the giant dragon beneath him.

This sound was akin to a stomach growling.

"Are you hungry?" he couldn't help but ask.

Carlos responded weakly, a bit embarrassed, "Um, yes, Master..."

"It was too strenuous today, and the food provided by Natalia was insufficient," Carlos explained, highlighting his plight.

Roning felt a pang of guilt. He hadn't considered that dragons could go hungry. The small amount of dried food in his space ring was clearly inadequate.

Feeding such a massive dragon was a looming issue. Bringing Carlos back to his territory was impractical. Even the livestock in Forest Town and Swamp Town wouldn't sustain him for long.

After some thought, Roning decided that Carlos should find food in the wild, specifically in the vast Wushan Monster Mountain Range to the west of Wubei Territory. With the soul contract in place, Roning could call him back if needed.

"What did Natalia feed you?" Roning inquired.

"Fish. All kinds of fish," Carlos said, his voice tinged with despair.

The thought of fish now made him nauseous, but there was no other choice but to eat.

Roning was curious about something else. Natalia and the others had stayed in the valley, venturing out only a few miles at most. How had they obtained so much fish?

He couldn't believe they had stored them in a warehouse. No warehouse could preserve food for nearly three hundred years.

"We'll have to investigate that cave for answers," Roning concluded.

"I'll find you something to eat," he said, jumping off Carlos' back and heading into the forest. Unfortunately, the noise had scared away any nearby animals, making it unlikely he'd find anything.

After a fruitless search, Roning returned to the beach just in time to prevent Redal from interrogating Carlos with force.

"Redal, stop," Roning intervened. "I've subdued him. He's no longer an enemy."

Carlos nodded weakly, devoid of any dragon-like dignity. He was simply too weak to oppose Redal.

"Did you really conquer the dragon?" Redal asked, amazed.

"It's true," Roning confirmed with a smile. "Let's not dwell on that now. We have an immediate problem: Carlos is hungry. He can't find food in his current state, and I've found no wild animals nearby."

Redal suggested, "I'll have everyone search separately. Hopefully, we'll find something."

"That's all we can do for now," Roning agreed, then turned to Carlos. "We'll regroup in the valley once you've regained some strength."

Watching Redal leave, Roning sighed.

"If Redal and the others don't find anything, we'll have to check the cave," he murmured to Carlos, who shuddered at the thought.

Roning then walked to the seaside, contemplating their next move. Once Carlos recovered, they would explore the coastline of Wubei Territory to identify potential locations for development.

Having a flying mount offered significant advantages in time-saving and efficiency.

Two hours later, as dusk fell, Carlos declared, "Master, I've regained some strength and can fly for a while."

"Great," Roning replied, climbing onto Carlos' back. "Let's head back to the valley."

They took off, landing outside the cave shortly after. The sound of their arrival caused a stir among the followers outside the cave.

"It's a dragon!"

Despite assurances from their commander that the dragon was subdued, they panicked at the sight.

Carlos landed gracefully, folding his wings and exhaling tiredly. He regarded Roning's subordinates with a dismissive glance, reflecting his innate dragon pride.

"Yes, Lord! The Lord is back!"

The subordinates exclaimed, their eyes filled with awe and respect as Roning dismounted.

"Baburin, how is your injury?" Roning asked, concerned for his follower who had been injured in an earlier battle.

"Thank you for your concern! The doctor has treated me, and I'm fine now," Baburin replied, visibly excited to be acknowledged by such a powerful figure.

Elron interjected, "Others were injured too, but they're all recovering well."

Roning nodded and addressed his men: "You've all worked hard. Rest here for now. When Redar and the others return from hunting, let me know."

"Elron, come with me," Roning said, leading him and Carlos into the cave, leaving the rest staring in awe at the powerful dragon.
