Chapter 225: The Power of the Witch Soul

Chapter 225: The Power of the Witch Soul

Ronin left the "fishing room" and tossed the sea fish he had conjured with the magic circle to Carlos, who was waiting outside.

Despite his weariness of such fare, Carlos was so famished that he immediately swallowed it down, caring not for taste but only for satiety.

Ronin proceeded to inspect the remaining rooms for any further gains.

Unfortunately, he was met with disappointment.

After a lengthy exploration, he found nothing—no gold coins, no armor, no weapons.

The only item of note was a few pieces of parchment on a stone table in one of the larger rooms.

Ronin surmised this room must have belonged to Natalia, given her role as manager of this underground palace and her duties overseeing and training Carlos.

The parchment detailed the methods for refining Carlos and their ultimate objective.

According to the documents, Carlos had been brought here as a dragon egg by Natalia's master, Elliot.

On another piece of parchment, Natalia expressed her admiration for Elliot, writing, "Master Elliot captured the offspring of the legendary dragon. He is the mightiest king in the world, before whom all creatures bow!"

The veracity of these fanatical words was uncertain, but if Elliot indeed stole the egg from a dragon, then he was undoubtedly formidable.

The documents went on to describe how Elliot had brought the dragon egg here, assembled his followers, and constructed this underground palace, appointing Natalia and others to guard it and refine the dragon egg.

They also described a ritual: activating a magic circle in the hall with the "power of the witch soul," which would infuse the unhatched dragon eggs with extraordinary energy, corroding them.

Once Carlos hatched, this power would be embedded in his body, allowing Natalia to control him through the Soul Horn and command the dragon.

The ritual was ongoing, aiming to cover Carlos's body with black lines indicative of the witch soul's power until special patterns appeared on his scales.

Once complete, Carlos would be transformed, his soul warped, and a new creature would emerge—the Witch Soul Dragon.

Honestly, Ronin was puzzled by Elliot's motives.

If one simply wished to control a dragon, wouldn't a master-servant contract suffice?

He doubted someone capable of acquiring dragon eggs would be ignorant of such scrolls.

Perhaps Elliot was interested in creating a new species?

Unless Ronin met Elliot himself, these questions would remain unanswered.

After centuries, this figure might have vanished entirely.

"My lord, Rydar and the others have returned," Elron informed Ronin. "They've destroyed a wild boar den and hunted seven or eight, two of which were quite large."

"That's a splendid haul!"

Ronin smiled, storing the parchment. "How are you feeling?"

"Don't worry, sir. Although I expended a great deal of magic, I have largely recuperated."

As they conversed, they led Carlos out of the cave.

The sight of the giant dragon astonished everyone.

Yet, when they observed the dragon eyeing the prey on the ground, its mystique somewhat diminished.

"Come on, everyone," Ronin called out, "let's enjoy a wild boar and sea fish feast tonight to celebrate the success of our venture!"

As Luo Ning spoke, he pulled out the remaining large fish.

His subordinates sprang into action; some dissected the prey, others washed the food at a nearby water source, and a few had already set up the grill.

The idea of serving a dragon and dining with one seemed almost unbelievable.

That night, Carlos finally had a meal that wasn't fish, and his eyes began to mist over with emotion.

If it weren't for the crowd around him and the fear that crying would look unseemly, two giant dragon tears would have undoubtedly flowed freely.

"Everyone, get a good rest tonight; we will return tomorrow," Roning announced after the feast.

"As for the giant dragon Carlos, particularly the fact that I have tamed him, I must insist that everyone keeps this information strictly confidential. This is a top secret of the Wubei Territory!"

Luo Ning looked around at everyone and added, "Anyone who leaks this will face serious consequences!"

Dragons are formidable and majestic creatures, but they are not invincible.

After all, Carlos is merely a level 6 Warcraft. His strengths lie in his ability to fly and control air currents.

But claiming invincibility is premature.

If Ronin can mount Carlos and render him powerless, who's to say others couldn't do the same?

Besides, Ronin isn't the only one in the kingdom with a flying mount, and there are certainly others with greater strength.

It would be overly arrogant to assume invulnerability simply because he commands a level six dragon.

Perhaps when Carlos reaches levels 7, 8, or 9, his presence alone will be a significant deterrent.

However, considering the exponential level progress required—over ten thousand—Ronin knew it was impractical to focus his energies and resources on Carlos in the early stages.

Thus, cultivating a powerful dragon quickly is not feasible.

Indeed, for most people, witnessing a dragon hatch and grow to its full potential is nearly impossible.

The growth period of a giant dragon is extensive, and even those who have reached the zenith of power cannot afford to wait.

Nonetheless, it's undeniable that Carlos holds immense potential and possesses exceptionally rare traits.

Should outsiders become aware of him, they would surely target him, with some potentially seeking to capture and study him.

Therefore, keeping the dragon's existence a secret is imperative for as long as possible.

If they can wait until Roning and his team grow stronger, managing any threats will become much easier.

Initially, everyone had wanted to return home and boast about their experiences, but faced with their lord's stringent demands, they resigned themselves to silence.

However, they remained confident that the day would come when their lord's dragon would be revealed to the world, and discussing today's events would no longer be off-limits.

After all, they had survived the dragon's breath!

"Sir, what should we do with this cave?" asked Redal.

Roning frowned slightly. The two magic circles in the cave held significant value for future magical research and needed protection.

Fortunately, the materials used in the magic circles were durable, and the cave's location in the northern reaches of Wubei Territory—remote with no nearby ports—minimized the risk of discovery.

"When we leave tomorrow, we'll use large rocks to seal the cave entrance to prevent wild animals from using it as a den," Roning decided.

He paused, then added, "In the future, we can use this underground palace as a base and have it patrolled regularly."

Luo Ning planned to wait until the population of the territory increased before establishing a small fishing village here.

For now, there was no need to station people here permanently.

Progress must be gradual, with food security within the territory being the priority.
