Third POV
The year was 2023 and global warming had taken the world and flipped it upside down. It had made the oceans and seas rise, land masses moved towards or away from each other, and the carbon dioxide emissions had almost destroyed the ozone layer. Due to this, the humans and the animals that resided in the areas where the water levels rose had been wiped off of the face of the Earth, leaving certain animals and humans to become endangered or extinct.
Humans had been the leading cause of this, and certain people had had enough. Vampires and werewolves had decided it was time to show themselves, especially as the human race was depleting. The remaining humans couldn’t believe it. The supernatural was something that they didn’t think was real. They were thought to be myth, legend, yet they walked the Earth alongside them.
While werewolves usually stayed in the forests and woods, vampires lived anywhere that their hearts desired. The majority of the two supernatural species either stuck to the shadows or went about their days living among the humans. But there were some that ran for and got voted into some of the highest government positions that they could. Even the king of the vampires was the Vice President of the United States.
The Vampire King was the reason that, by the year 2026, everything to do with the climate issues that the humans started got fixed. The damaged ozone layer was restored and the carbon dioxide emissions were down. People began to inhabit the land again. While the water was still covering parts of the land mass, the Earth had become a different version of Pangaea. But only so much of the land could be inhabited
Due to the water level, climate changes, and the terrain, humans could only live in certain areas of the New World. The way that the land masses came together made it so that there were a few places that the humans could live comfortably. Werewolves would be living in the cooler places around the few temperate zones and vampires could live in any climate, so they would be living among the humans for the most part. The animals that used to inhabit the cold and desert areas had been moved back to their original temperaments, but there were so few of them that no humans, nor werewolves, could hunt them for food.
With food sources, and humans, being scarce, the king of vampires had asked scientists to create an alternative to human and animal blood, lessening the risk of extinction for the bipeds and quadrupeds. The King had also had vampires help the humans start farms so that they could make plant-based foods for themselves. Werewolves, reluctantly, did the same, not wanting to end up in a war for hunting animals. But there were still problems to be fixed.
Even though the king of vampires had made it against the law for vampires to hunt humans, and made sure that the werewolves didn’t hunt any of the endangered, almost extinct, animals, there were still those that opposed the laws that he had put in place. There were revolts coming from the vampires about the blood issue, in which he set up a blood drive where humans would be paid for their blood, much like they used to for blood banks. A small portion of the blood drawn would be stored in hospitals, just in case something happens to some humans, but the rest would be divided up between the vampires until the blood alternative is created.
The werewolves, while a good number, almost all of them, were fine with the Vampire King making the laws and keeping the people of the New World in line, there were a few packs and rogue werewolves that did not like it. In fact, they didn’t want to listen to him at all, causing riots and revolts to happen, but they were stopped by the guards and other packs and vampires. Those packs and rogues that rioted were either forced into submission and placed into other packs, made into servants for a period of time, or, if they got too out of hand, were killed.
The revolts and riots stopped then and there, now that everyone knew of the punishments that the King handed out to keep the peace. The King did pose a question of the werewolf packs though. That question was if they were ever going to have a pack become the Royal Pack. He figured that werewolves knew themselves better, so a Vampire King shouldn’t have to hand out punishments for a species that he knew how to handle, but since they were natural enemies, he didn’t want to intrude in their territory unless absolutely necessary.
This led to an Alpha, the male leaders of the packs, meeting to be called. Every Alpha, except for the Alpha of the Black Moon Pack, came to it, discussing the issue at hand. They had decided to have a council of Pack Elders, one from each pack, to live in the King’s castle. They would be the ones to help him make the punishments for the werewolves that would dare go against him. This now brought up a whole new hierarchy among the Werewolves.
The hierarchy used to be that Alphas and Lunas, the female leaders of the Packs, were the lawmakers for the pack, with Betas being the second-in-command, Gamma being the third-in-command, and the Deltas being the Packs’ warriors. After the Deltas were the regular pack members, those that used to either be any of the older Alphas, Betas, Gammas or Deltas, or they are wanting jobs within the pack, as well as the Pack Elders. The last members are the Omegas, the ones that are meant to be cherished and are the hearts of the packs. With the Pack Elders council, they were at the top of the hierarchy, with Alphas and Lunas after them, and so on and so forth.
The pack that didn’t go to the Alpha meeting hated everything that was going on around him, but knew that he had to do as they said. But, there was one thing that he, and his father, did that no pack should do. Something that the Pack Elders didn’t think was an issue until the day of the Royal Ball. The thing that he did, that he and his father taught the pack to do, was something so unforgivable and disturbing to other packs, and the king of vampires agreed that it was extremely wrong. What they did was abuse and harm the heart of the pack; they physically, mentally, and emotionally abused the Omega.
