The monster towered over me, black mist twirling at its gigantic feet. Its snout protruded from its face, pointing directly at me. Its ears twitched, picking up my every movement. Two scarlet eyes pierced the darkness. Shaggy, matted, dark fur clung to the beast, giving it the feeling of being both alive and dead.

Fear kept me rooted to the spot. As I stared at the giant wolf creature, my heart pounded against my rib cage. I was certain it could hear my heartbeat. A voice in my head told me to run, but I couldn’t bring myself to make my legs work.
