Chapter 6: Blood Battle in the Cave

What kind of animal is this? Seeing the three-headed-looking creatures with shifty eyes rushing at him, Yang Huawi couldn't help but be stunned. The lab usually conducted experiments with white mice, but if this thing were a white mouse, it was certainly too large. Standing upright, it seemed even taller than Yang Huawi, who was 1.8 meters tall, and its entire body was covered in what looked like scales rather than fur. Seeing its thieving eyes glaring at him, Yang Huawi reflexively fired a burst of bullets.

"Eeee—" A piercing scream shook Yang Huawi's eardrums, making them numb. The creature hit by the burst of bullets had not died; it was writhing on the ground, bleeding a pus-like substance.

Oh no, if the monsters in this cave are this tough, it seems he would need to conserve his ammunition. The old director had said that traversing this third cave would take at least three days, and only by finding Aunt Zhang would he learn where to get more supplies and clean water, assuming Aunt Zhang could be found.

Yang Huawi drew his military knife and finished off the mouse-like creature, then continued to explore cautiously. According to the map of the cave's construction, after walking for a while, he should reach a large laboratory. This place was originally used for biochemical experiments and was abandoned along with the biochemical madman who was imprisoned here. The supply room was beyond the large laboratory, a few hours away. This mountain had been chosen for the biochemical experiments because it was made entirely of granite, and it took three years to carve out what would have been three days of work, demonstrating the mountain's solidity.

Over time, and with the aid of human labor, dust and debris had filled the tunnels, making them look like ordinary caves. Yang Huawi suspected it was unlikely the cave could be collapsed by explosives, and he regretted not bringing more grenades.

While clearing the path of creatures larger than calves and insects larger than dogs, Yang Huawi proceeded with his exploration. Fortunately, he hadn't encountered large groups of monsters. After a day, he finally approached the large laboratory in the mountain's belly.

Entering the spacious hall, Yang Huawi first saw a platform against the wall of the cave, which was over four meters high, followed by piles of broken equipment scattered around. Someone was here?! Aunt Zhang.

Seeing a fleeting small figure beneath the equipment, Yang Huawi rushed over without hesitation. However, the scene before him made him shiver: a withered, humanoid creature, about 1.6 meters tall, was scooping up the rotting corpses on the ground and eating them, chewing with relish.

Yang Huawi reflexively fired another burst, but the creature dodged with extraordinary agility, glaring back at him with a cold light in its eyes, emitting a hissing sound from its mouth.

Is this even human? Could it be a scientist who was imprisoned here? Or the scientific madman? Seeing the pus-covered, fleshy creature, Yang Huawi felt his stomach churn again. White maggots visibly wriggled in its decaying body. This could not be Aunt Zhang! Yang Huawi fired a burst from his submachine gun.

The creature's speed was evidently not as fast as the bullets. One arm and one leg were smashed to pieces, but it seemed to feel no pain and continued to lunge at Yang Huawi.

Yang Huawi swiftly dodged and took cover behind a pile of debris. The attacking creature, suddenly losing its target, scanned the area in confusion. As it looked around, a series of bullets rapidly erupted, blasting away its head.

However, just as Yang Huawi was about to relax, he was horrified to see that the headless creature stood up again and accurately charged towards him.

Yang Huawi leapt high and dashed to the other side while shooting at the half-decayed creature that had suddenly stood up from the ground. This was no place to witness alien creatures; the situation here was probably beyond anyone's imagination. As Yang Huawi was pondering, a sudden scream came from the front. He was stunned for a moment as several foul-smelling creatures collided with him. Unable to handle the monster with his submachine gun, he thrust the gun into its body, and the explosion splattered him with black, stinking blood.

Standing upright, Yang Huawi had no time to wipe the stinking blood from his face when a massive vibration from the side caught his attention. Turning around, he was shocked to see a three-meter-tall creature, resembling either an ape or a monkey, charging silently at him. Only after noticing Yang Huawi did it let out a deafening roar.

Frightened, Yang Huawi sprinted away, reaching the base of the stone platform and creating some distance from the giant monster. He quickly set up his DSR No.1 sniper rifle and fired a burst.

With a thunderous roar, the giant fell, but before he could catch his breath, he saw dozens of monsters shaking and rushing towards him. Yang Huawi rolled over and climbed onto the stone platform, but once he was up there, he was stunned to see the sight below.

Thousands of monsters had suddenly emerged in the hall, filling the space below with a sea of grotesque creatures emitting foul smells, oozing pus, and making horrendous noises. Seeing these repulsive creatures, Yang Huawi finally couldn't hold back and bent over to vomit in agony.

The creatures seemed to move slowly towards the edge of the platform, and Yang Huawi realized he couldn't be trapped by them. He immediately took up his DSR No.1 sniper rifle and began to fire.

The powerful firepower created a barrage of bullets, causing the monsters in front to stop their howling and retreat. However, those behind continued to push forward, trampling and crushing those in front. The relentless monsters soon reached the platform but couldn't climb up. They surrounded the base, howling mournfully.

Yang Huawi didn't dare pause, his hand carefully monitoring the rapidly depleting ammunition. He shot at the more agile heads jumping towards the stone platform.

Didn't these creatures know fear? Or was there some intelligent force driving them? Yang Huawi continued to fire while scanning the surroundings, but the dense mass of monsters below blocked his view. He clenched his teeth and took out a grenade, tossing it down.

"Boom——" The explosion shook the entire cave, causing a bloody mess among the monsters. The high-density impact of the grenade achieved maximum effect, and the monsters finally retreated with low growls. How could he find a way out amidst the gaps? Yang Huawi sighed, wiped the sweat and grime from his face. Before he could catch his breath, a scream erupted from the monster horde, and the creatures that had retreated began another frenzied assault on his stone platform.

With his ammunition rapidly running out, Yang Huawi felt a pang of despair. With only two days left and his bullets nearly depleted, he gritted his teeth, took a deep breath, and pulled out another grenade to toss down. After the new explosion, the monsters retreated as expected, but soon after, the scream that had spurred their attack rose again. Yang Huawi readied his weapon, drew his Swiss army knife, and leapt towards the source of the scream.

Yang Huawi abruptly descended from the stone platform, causing the monsters to momentarily freeze. In their moment of hesitation, he maneuvered through the horde and found himself among the giant monsters surrounding a green-haired, red-eyed humanoid creature.

Was this the deranged scientist? Without time to think, Yang Huawi noticed that the monsters had realized his intention and started to scream more ferociously. The giant monsters, though formidable, were hindered by their own size, and Yang Huawi soon carved a bloody path to the green-haired, red-eyed creature.

He swung his military knife at the creature without hesitation, but with a loud clang, Yang Huawi was jolted, his arm going numb as the thick-bladed knife flew out of his hand.

In his moment of confusion, a pitch-black, centipede-like monster rose before the intelligent creature. Yang Huawi's knife had been deflected by this creature. As he hesitated, three giant monsters swiped their claws at his head. Although he managed to avoid the critical strikes, his left shoulder was torn open by the bony claws.

Seeing the intelligent creature retreat swiftly, Yang Huawi panicked. If that creature escaped and he was surrounded by the monsters, even his skills wouldn't save him from being overwhelmed. He fired a burst from his sniper rifle at the centipede-like monster, but after a screeching noise, the monster continued to charge recklessly.

As the intelligent creature's figure faded from sight, Yang Huawi couldn't help but let out a frustrated roar. Just as he roared, a clear command came from behind the creature, and a small, gray-white figure flashed. The red-eyed monster had returned to Yang Huawi's view.

Without time to think about how it had returned, Yang Huawi's M500 roared, exploding the airborne monster into a shower of flesh. The surrounding creatures were momentarily stunned by the flying flesh, and the gray-white figure rushed towards Yang Huawi, issuing a swift scream: "Run——!"
