Chapter 37: Alien Scenery

"Huff... huff!"

Realizing that they had left the main universe and were now physically stepping into the rainforest of an unknown planet, Sanderson's breathing became more rapid.

Although Sanderson and his teammates, as the company's advance team, were selected from the best retired soldiers in the company and even globally, it was impossible to say he wasn't nervous in this situation.

However, Sanderson's state was unaffected.

After a brief observation, Sanderson quickly moved forward according to the plan, crouching about 15 meters from the spatial gate, maintaining a 5-meter distance from two teammates.

Soon, all the advance team members at the ruins base passed through the spatial gate, entering this alien rainforest.

"Wow... this isn't Earth."

In the lower left corner of his mask, his comrade nicknamed "Scarecrow" was asking on the team communication channel.

"0.9 atmospheric pressure, 0.8g gravity, carbon dioxide content over 18%, this is just our individual system's rough scan results, what do you think?" Soap responded first.

"Stay alert." The team leader, whose nickname and surname were both "Price," didn't seem to have much of a sense of humor. He ordered immediately after passing through the spatial gate:

"Xiaoqiang, Soap, you two go as a group to investigate the 10 o'clock direction from our position. Ghost, Zero, you two take the 2 o'clock direction, try to find an open area in this rainforest, but remember, don't be greedy.

The rest of you, establish a defensive position here and start setting up the wired communication base station. We need to establish real-time communication with the base immediately."

"Understood." Soap, Ghost, and the entire advance team responded in unison, except for Sanderson.

Sanderson, focusing on whether there were any nearby threats, just nodded to indicate he understood.

Next, the four advance team members equipped with mechanical exoskeletons placed large equipment boxes on the ground, unlocked them, and began setting up the wired base station.

Price and the remaining five members, after releasing two small drones into the air, looked for advantageous terrain to wait, creating crossfire points to ensure the wired base station's construction proceeded smoothly.

As for Sanderson, he followed Soap, whose rank was one level higher than his, to explore the left front of the spatial gate.

At this moment, Sanderson had already lowered his heart rate to between 60 and 70, steadily advancing with the company's modular prototype gun based on the AR series.

However, after he and Soap had walked about a hundred meters, and the spatial gate had long disappeared from their sight...

"Co... coo!"

The sudden call of an unknown animal made Sanderson immediately disengage the safety and raise his alertness, pointing his gun towards the sound source.

Soap also raised his gun, reminding him, "Wait for my command to open fire, don't reveal our position too early."

Sanderson lightly nodded to show he understood.

"Co-coo!!"

Rustle! Rustle!

The sounds grew clearer, and the unknown animals approached more quickly, eventually breaking through the dense foliage and appearing in their sight.

A group of blue "monkeys" about one and a half meters long, looking extremely agile.

Seeing this, Sanderson removed his finger from the trigger.

Meanwhile, the HUD in his mask automatically locked onto one of the "monkeys," enlarging the image for him to observe more closely.

With a pair of eyes, three pairs of limbs, and wings or membranes similar to Earth's flying squirrels on both sides of their bodies, these creatures could not only climb and roam quickly but also glide briefly between branches.

In just a few seconds, the blue monkeys flew over their heads and disappeared into the dense forest.

Confirming that the threat was temporarily gone, Soap lowered his gun, crouching by the root of a giant tree, watching a blue beetle crawl on the soil, and looking at the many blue and pink plants nearby, he laughed: "The creatures and plants on this planet seem to love blue. I wonder if there are blue people? And if they have genders."

Sanderson shrugged, indicating he didn't care.

"Forgot you're a quiet one. Never mind, let's go."

Soap got up, taking a few steps ahead, continuing the exploration with Sanderson.

In the next few minutes, they encountered creatures resembling horses in appearance but were at least twice the size of Earth's horses, with three pairs of limbs.

The information they had so far seemed to indicate that the things on this planet were 2 to 3 times larger than the average size on Earth.

Fortunately, the creatures they encountered were relatively gentle, not very aggressive, so they didn't need to retreat or call for support.

However, some of the insects crawling in the soil seemed to show an intention to penetrate their protective suits. It seemed that no matter which planet, rainforest environments were generally unfriendly to humans.

At this time, the two drones flying over the forest also shared their real-time footage, displayed next to the radar in the upper left corner of the masks.

Through the drone's perspective, Sanderson and Soap saw a very open area about 400 meters ahead.

"Let's go."

The two sped up their pace through the dense forest, seeing the rainforest divided by beams of sunlight piercing through the leaves, slightly straining their eyes.

Squinting slightly, they crossed the edge.

Unimpeded, they reached the open area, where everything suddenly became clear.

However...

"Holy shit!"

Even Soap, who didn't like to swear, couldn't help but exclaim at the sight.

They had arrived at the edge of a barren cliff and, looking into the distance, saw "surrounded by mountains"...

Several floating peaks intertwined in mid-air!

Moving a bit further and looking down, they could see the mist and another rainforest at a lower elevation.

Looking up.

Besides the star providing daylight for the planet, there was also a gas giant occupying nearly one-fifth of the sky, explaining why the sunlight was somewhat excessive here.

As combat personnel, Sanderson and Soap's knowledge wasn't as extensive as that of technical and scientific personnel, but they couldn't help but marvel at the wonders of the universe.

"The wired communication base station is complete, testing..." At this moment, Price's voice echoed again in the team channel, "Test complete. Soap, Xiaoqiang, Ghost, Zero, share your mask views with the command center immediately."

Upon hearing this, the two stopped admiring the alien scenery and transmitted their footage to the ruins base in the main universe through the wired base station.

The remaining tasks were left to the technical and scientific personnel to handle. They only needed to focus on reconnaissance and combat.
