Chapter 24: Contact
Sevi spent the rest of the day attending to Noemi.
He checked in on her periodically, brought her additional snacks and drinks, and made sure she was taking her medicine.
Throughout the day, Noemi's initial reluctance gave way to a more relaxed demeanor. She appreciated Sevi's presence and the way he seemed genuinely concerned for her well-being.
As the day went on, Sevi noticed small improvements in Noemi's condition. Her color was better, and she seemed more at ease.
They chatted about various topics—everything from their classes to tips on how to improve sword fighting, which helped to pass the time and keep her spirits up.
At one point, Noemi stared at Sevi and asked,
"...Are you really human?"
Sevi paused, a puzzled look crossing his face. "What do you mean, 'am I really human'?"
Noemi's gaze was steady, a hint of curiosity in her eyes. "Well, it's just... there's something in your face that I can't quite put something into. A druid? elf? dwarf?"
Sevi blinked in surprise, taken aback by Noemi's question. "A druid? An elf? A dwarf? That's quite a range of possibilities."
Noemi shrugged slightly, her expression serious. "I don't know. It's just... you seem so different from what I'm used to. Your presence has this otherworldly quality to it."
'Well, I am from another world.'
"I assure you, I'm just a regular human." Sevi chuckled.
Sevi then glanced at the clock and noticed that it was getting late.
"Looks like it's getting pretty late," Sevi said, his voice carrying a note of finality.
"I should probably be heading out."
Noemi looked up, "Oh, right. I didn't realize how late it had gotten."
Sevi looked back at Noemi with a thoughtful expression. "Before I go, could I borrow your crystal ball for a moment?"
Noemi's eyebrows raised. "The crystal ball? Why?"
Sevi gave a reassuring smile. "I'd like to leave you with a way to reach me if you ever need help or just want to talk. It might be useful."
Noemi hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
"It's over there," Noemi pointed toward a corner of the room where the crystal ball rested.
Sevi nodded and made his way to the corner. He carefully picked up the crystal ball, its cool, smooth surface fitting comfortably in his hand.
He took a deep breath and focused on his intent, channeling his thoughts through the ball.
With a soft hum, the surface of the crystal ball began to shimmer, and a faint glow illuminated Sevi's face. He closed his eyes for a moment, concentrating on transferring his contact details into the ball.
As he did so, a small, visible image of a contact card appeared within the glow, displaying his name and a secure way to reach him.
When he opened his eyes, the glow faded, and the crystal ball returned to its usual, serene state. Sevi carefully placed the ball back and turned to Noemi.
"There you go," he said with a smile.
"I've set up a way for you to contact me through the crystal ball. If you need anything, just use it, and it'll get through to me."
Sevi gave Noemi a final reassuring smile before turning to leave. Once he arrived in his room, Sevi quickly changed into comfortable clothes and drifted off to sleep.
