Chapter 11

Ineffable

Willow’s POV

Diego left two hours ago with his men to hunt for the girl who stole his money. He should be back by tomorrow. I was left behind with Angelica, Brielle, and Celin. Sometimes I ask myself why Diego married me instead of Angelica. That girl is a devil. She went to the extent of trying to poison my juice and tried to force me to drink it.

I was in my room, preparing to jog. Anything to help me get out of this house and away from these d**k-sucking girls.

I ran out of the yard and in the direction of the park when a bike drove next to me, I was able to move out of the way in time but couldn’t ditch the car that followed it, leading me to end on the other side of the road, both my insides and my outsides hurting like hell as I watched my life flash in front of my eyes. I guess that was the end of my perfectly perfect life. A life that was ended by the hooded man.

“Stay with me,” the familiar voice said and I tried to open my eyes, but I couldn’t. They felt like they were glued together. His intoxicating Nutella breath filled my nostrils. I was glad that I was not forsaken.

“Fight for me, Willow. I can’t lose you again, not like this,” he kept saying and soon I couldn’t control it. I lost all signals of me hearing anything. I couldn’t even tell if I was breathing or not.

When I opened my eyes, I was hooked to a machine that didn’t look like the one I normally see in hospitals. Even the room didn’t look and smell like the hospital. Is this how ugly hell looks like?

“She’s up,” an elderly voice said, and soon after that my body felt crushed under the heavy weight,” I stared at the hooded man, and he smiled. He didn’t have his hood on today. I looked away from him and wondered how long I’ve been here.

“I thought I lost you.”

“Can I have water?” I whispered and he nodded before bringing a bottle of water to my lips, like a kid being fed candy, I gladly drank the water like I had been dehydrated since years ago.

“Are you okay? Can you feel pain anywhere?”

“Yeah, everywhere.”

“Let me go and get you painkillers,” he was about to stand up when I grabbed his wrist. He looked at me with worry etched on his face.

“Why?” I asked, not able to understand why he would try to kill me and then save me after.

“Why what?” he asked with confusion.

“You did this, didn’t you?” he looked at me dumbfounded, before he could say anything, a gunshot was heard. He looked at the door then turned to me.

“We have to get you out of here,” he said and helped me to my feet. He walked with me around his shoulder to the door and walked to the stairs that led us to the lower floor.

“What is going on?”

“They want to kill you,” he said, his tone normal. Like the situation we are in is normal at all.

“Why?”

“That’s what happens when you marry into a mafia, Willow. Didn’t you know?” he asked sarcastically. I decided to keep my mouth shut as he led me through another door, we got outside, and to say I was in a pit of hell would be an understatement. This place looked like one of those you see in zombie movies. It looked like an abandoned town.

Another gunshot was heard somewhere in the building we just escaped.

“Why me?”

“You chose him.”

“I wasn’t given a choice.”

“He is my target, not you.”

“So you are only using me to get to him?” I asked, pulling myself away from him and instantly regretted that as my body started hurting again.

“I wasn’t given a choice. You’re his wife, aren’t you?” I took a step from the man and started walking toward his car. If it was his even. He walked behind me and opened the door for me before going to the driver’s side.

“I have ugly bruises, because of you.”

“They’ll heal.”

“And if they don’t?”

“You are just being dramatic, they will.”

“Who is the man following me?”

“The other hitmen. The one who attacked you the other night is Derek, who goes by the nickname Danger D. Then the girl who tried to kill you yesterday, I think her name is Savage X.”

“There are girls?” I asked shocked, why would a girl try to kill one of her kind? He just shrugged.

“Why do you keep saving me?” I asked and he looked at me, getting on the main road and heading toward the city, he sighed and looked back at the road.

“I thought you could tell.”

“I don’t want to assume you like me only to find out you don’t.”

“Look at me Willow. Study me and read me, try to remember if you have never seen me before,” he said and looked at me, I looked into his eyes and it didn’t ring a bell.

“Nope,” I told him and he sighed, stopping at the red light.

“Back in middle school, I used to like you. But you liked Prince more. You never noticed me, during that show when you had to kiss him, I kissed you instead. We practiced together, I was your first kiss. Prince fell sick on the day of the performance. I was your second kiss,” he said and I chuckled then looked at his face as he put the car in motion again.

“Why do I have a feeling that you had something to do with his sickness that day?”

“Only the devil and I know that,” he said and I smiled nodding my head.

“Why did you turn into a killer?”

“You and I were only taught survival. You do everything and anything to survive,” he stated and clenched his jaw as we approached my house.

“Do you love him?” he asked, without even saying his name but I knew whom he meant.

“No, of course not. With the lessons of survival, I was taught to never fall in love,” I told him and he smiled at me. He stopped the car just close to the mansion and looked my way.

“I will see you again soon. Sean will be dead in no time,” he said and I felt some sort of a pinch-like pain in my heart. I smiled at him and got out of the car, I walked to the gates slowly and the guards opened the gates for me.

I went to my bedroom, took a shower, and put on my summer dress. I went to the living room and it was the biggest mistake of my entire life, they were talking about who rides the d**k better than who. There was a knock on the door and I went to open it, it was Sean’s aunt with her daughter and grandma.

“Greetings,” I said with wide eyes, I was trying to get them back to their normal size. Diego didn’t like his aunt. They always fought and he just didn’t like how she treated Mariah. Grandma pushed passed me and went to the living room.

“Hello, sister-in-law,” Mariah said, hugging my legs and causing me to smile at her.

“Hey you little champ,” I greeted her back and she smiled before running after her granny to the living room.

“Where is Diego?” Marian asked, she didn’t like me for some reason. My lips started separating slightly and she raised her eyebrows.

“Oh, uh- he is taking care of some business in Lima,” I said and she rolled her eyes and made her way to the living room. I followed her and found granny sitting across from Angelica and Celin.

“Where is Diego, dear?” granny asked and I looked at Marian who sat next to granny and Mariah.

“He went to Lima, for business.”

“And he left you alone in such a huge house?” she asked and I looked at the girls in front of her.

“No, he left me with Angelica and Celin and Brielle too.”

“These whores?” she exclaimed and my eyes went wide. My head involuntarily started bobbing up and down before I frantically shook it.

“Wait, what? No. Yes, they are but I don’t know-” she ignored me and turned to the girls.

“Granny, we aren’t-” Brielle started and granny stared at her with a bored expression, her gaze went to the floor as the smile also fell.

“I’m not your granny. How long are you planning to stay in my daughter’s house?” granny asked looking between Brielle and Angelica.

“Your daughter?” Angelica asked and granny turned her attention to her.

“This house now belongs to Willow. She is my daughter-in-law, isn’t she?” I raised an eyebrow at the same time Marian did and we both stared at granny in shock.

“We will leave when Bradley and Diego get here,” Brielle said with a shaky voice, granny huffed and stood up before leaving the room. Marian glared at me.

“I will leave when Diego says so,” Angelica mumbled and Marian kept her gaze on me, what did I do?

“I’m calling Diego,” she said and left the room with her phone in hand.

“Oh, Auntie Willow, I got you something,” Mariah said and pulled me toward the couch.

“Show me! Show me!” I said excitedly, trying to match her enthusiasm. She giggled before opening her bag, she pulled out a small box that had my name on it. I smiled taking the box from her tiny hands.

“Open it!” she yelled in excitement again, I smiled and opened the box. It was a bracelet that had charms saying welcome to the family with those of flowers and animals and guns and knives with a huge heart in the middle.

“It’s-” I didn’t have words. I mean, the last time I received a gift was the day before my dad died.

“Do you not like it?” she asked sadly and I shook my head, my eyes still glued on the bracelet.

“It’s nice. I love it,” I told her, the bracelet was so beautiful I couldn’t put it away.

“Then why are you crying?” she asked and I touched my cheeks, they were wet. It has been a very long time since I cried happy tears.

“Thank you,” I told her and she smiled, I pulled her for a hug causing her to giggle.

“Help me put it on?” she nodded and wrapped the bracelet around my wrist before snapping the two pieces together.

“The flower is the same one as the one brother has on his neck, and this one symbolizes eternal life. So all of them will give you joy in life, my brother likes playing with guns and knives. They will keep you safe.”

“Thank you, baby,” I said and kissed her forehead, Celin and Brielle were watching us along with Marian.

“Where is Diego brother?” Mariah asked and I smiled at her, ignoring her weird English.

“He is taking care of business in-” before I could reply to her, Sean’s voice was heard and he sounded pretty mad.

“That’s him!” Mariah yelled and ran out of the living room. I sighed staring at her disappearing figure.

“Where is she?” Diego yelled coming inside the house. He didn’t even see Mariah as he walked toward me, I stood up and smiled at him.

“Who the hell are you?”

“Excuse me?” I asked, confused as to what he was trying to accuse me with.

“Just because you helped me with that stupid idiot it doesn’t mean you can act as you f**king please!”
