MEGAMI
The sandy road I stepped on took me to a different place, and the environment changed to that of a village. I saw kids jumping and playing happily, which made me smile. The houses were little buildings, like huts. It was so nice that I could see a house on a tree; it felt like an ancient world entirely. I wanted to touch the kids to ask them where this place was. They all ignored me, and I wondered why. Where am I? Why can't they answer me?
"Hello, beautiful girl, can you help me? Hello! Hello!!" i asked the girl playing beside me. A kid ran through me. I was shocked. I wonder how it happened. That was when it was clear to me that they could neither see nor touch me. I tried taking a bowl to smash it, but I couldn't. My hand went through it like a ghost. I reached out to a kid to garb her, but I couldn't. Am I dead? Did i really die?
"Megami!! Megami!!! Where are you?" A lady approaching me called; she was so pretty in the Japanese kimono, i was happy she could see me. But I tried answering her.
"Megami isn't back from hunting," the child beside me answered before i could.
"When she comes, tell her to visit Nana immediately; she has a prophecy for her." The pretty lady said it in Japanese and left.
Suddenly people started running in our direction, which surprised me, but I didn't run away but stood, and the kids ran.
"The Suroki people are here!! They are here!! Hide, they are heere!!" A man is screaming in Japanese. Everybody was running; they were even falling on each other. This peaceful place turned into chaos. A girl was helping a man walk, and it seems people were running away from them. And the man seems injured.
Looking at the lady, she looked like me, and I always wondered why I looked different from the typical Japanese face. Staring at the lady made me happy that someone in the past Japanese had my type of face, shape, and eyes. I was so impressed by her beauty that I wanted to approach her and carefully examine her face. But I didn't because my thoughts diverted to the man she was helping to walk. He looked like the man in my dreams and our CEO, Mr. Yuu. What kind of stupid and manipulative dream have I been having lately? It looked so real to be called a dream.
"Please help this man; he is injured and dying." My look alike said to the people running, which they stopped and faced them.
"Megami, why will you lead a Suroki warrior into our village? What if they attack us next?" The man said it in Japanese angrily, and he was holding a stick.
"Her foolishness has gotten to her head." Two ladies said it in unison, and they looked like twins. The other people were scared; some hid their kids at their backs, while others went home and locked their doors.
"You remember the priestess saying we shouldn't let anybody different into the village or calamity will befall us?" the elderly man said in Japanese.
"But that doesn't mean we shouldn't help a man in need; he is injured and dying. I think he is infected."
"Kai watashi o tasuketekudasai ( My Lord, please help me)" He (Yuuma) asked in Japanese and bowed to the ground. Megami look alike felt pity for him, and tried raising him up, which he declined.
"This petty behavior can only move Megami." The twin ladies said it in unison, which I found amusing and interesting.
"Kare o okuridasu (Throw him out)" The villages screamed Japanese in unison.
"The Suroki people are killing others to add to their village population so they can rule every community, and you have the guts to bring one here." A man said it angrily in the crowd. Which caught my attention. I wondered why these people are so aggressive about helping an injured man. What crime did he commit?.
"If they are seen in other villages, they are killed, not nurtured; we are kind enough to let you throw him out." The elderly man said,.
"Will he kill us all?" A little girl who was playing before me said.
"I don't want to die and meet King Haro," the girl said, holding her mother tightly.
( A myth in the village told to kids is that when they die, they meet King Haro.)
"Megami, even little kids know bringing in a suroki man can kill us. Just send him back to where you met him." The Elderly said
"Sensai (teacher in Japanese), you said we should be kind and show compassion to others. Why are you doing the opposite of your teachings?" Megami said, worried. I only pounded about this Megami; am I her reincarnation? Why do we bear the same name? We could also pass as twins only, but I am taller and more mature than her.
"We preach kindness, but our safety comes first, and the safety of these villagers is my priority." The Elderly man said this to Megami.
"Now take him out of here."
A little boy ran to meet Megami
"Megami!! Megami!! Your mother is on fire" the little boy said.
Megami tried running away to the hut, but the twin ladies blocked her.
"Send that man away before you leave, or else your hut will burn down in flames," the twins said.
"Sensai, will you let them do this? What if my Mom is hurt." Megami said.
"Please let her go. I will leave now." The dying man (Yuuma) said. as he tried to stand up.
I stood watching; it was like a movie, but I was scared that no one was putting out the fire in the hut.
An arrow with fire was shot at the huts, which terrified me to bits, and the huts were on fire now. I screamed at the people to put out the fire instead of discussing. But I couldn't be of help.
"The Sonaki people are heeree!! He brought them here." A man screamed as more arrows with fire were shot, fire was blazing, and some people were running out of their hut with fire on their bodies. And some villagers tried putting out the fire.
"Megami, see what you have done? " The elderly man said. He left to help the villagers.
The fire was increasing rapidly, and I heard chanting in the bush coming wild and loud. Some children were crying and saying that now that the Sonaki people are here, King Haro will take us all.
A man who was putting out the fire rushed at the dying man and lifted a sword to kill him, and Megami blocked him, and she was cut at her back. The man stabbed her through her back, and it pierced the man too, hurting them all at once. The dying man (Yuuma) held Megami, crying; blood was gushing out of her stomach. There was chaos everywhere, as children and women ran to put out the fire. It was like the god of confusion was in this place because no one was running out of the village; instead, they tried to put out the fire.
I stood staring at Megami and the dying man. I was so hurt. My heart ached watching him, the man crying, and Megami dying. Strange men chanting entered the village with swords, killing people
